They need to do some thing about the drivers license department and come to some kind of agreement with accepting the temporary paper ID… It is out of our hands to control the fact that the department of licensing issues us the paper ID vs. Giving us a hard plastic like they used to. TSA won’t allow it they have strict regulation a supervisor in Kona said that any one can photocopy and create there own… Which is semi true I guess however, it is still a legitimate identification according to the Department of Driver’s Licensing… They issue a huge expiration date in front and a bar code in back… One point I brought up to the supervisor was to get a scanner and start scanning people ID… I mean the system needs to work together somehow someway… Luckily I had my old I’ds with me so she could easily identify us. But than again what’s good with an old I’d if it’s expired… Overall, I made my argument with her and she accepted the fact that the Honolulu airport used it and allowed us to come home to O’ahu…

TSA check point is hit or miss. We came through on a Monday afternoon and there was only one checkpoint open for all the mainland bound flights(United Airlines side, not Hawaiian). Is there short staffing or break time going on? No one knows. There’s a reason they tell you to check in two hours early and it’s usually because of this line. TSA workers are also hit or miss. Some of them are super friendly and helpful, while others talk to you like they hate their life and they want you to hate yours too. If I were more fancy, I would have tsa pre check and skip all this, but I like to keep my money and spend it elsewhere. Sometimes when the tsa pre check line is empty, they will let some of us «regular» folk in, but we still need to scan our shoes through the X-ray machine. Of course, this was yelled super loud at me by a TSA worker(relax, lady!) Thumbs up for scanning my fifteen year old son’s slippers for a random shoe bomb check. The ‘random’ checks seem to always be some little old lady or my children. This is not isolated to HNL, my daughter’s stuffed reindeer from Disneyland also got the bomb screen at LAX. I have also been bomb screened multiple times, which ended up from shiny tinsel like thread in my sweater or rhinestones on my jeans or some other clothing issue. However, the tsa check point at the Hawaiian airlines side is the best! Especially when the dogs are on duty, the line goes super fast. I wish there were more dogs, but they are only allowed to work an hour at a time.

I hate long lines and TSA Pre-Check helps me avoid them. That is why I love it. It makes flying and dealing with the stresses of frequent travel so much easier. With TSA Pre-Check at Honolulu leaving the Island is more of the Aloha you expect. The agent was nice and friendly and when he saw my NV drivers license made the comment I can’t wait to come to your hometown again. The wife and I got through the checkpoint in just under 5 minutes. The regular line was at least 20 minutes long. So glad to not have to wait and waste more time trying to get to the gate.

I had a great experience through this TSA. I was through it in about 5 minutes. Probably because I have PreCheck and go through the expedited PreCheck line and don’t have to take my shoes off, laptop or soaps and stuff out of my bag. The TSA agent was nice enough. If you want to have a good experience like I did, get the TSA PreCheck.
