Tropic’s is our choice for the cheap o taco. Who else in town wears gloves to serve your Chicken, Beef taco or Tortilla Soup? Nothing like cleanliness in a dive type bar. Service is ok until they get really busy then it becomes slower and slower, but you can always walk up to the bar and order. The Star of the Show is still the Fish Taco wrapped in a Flour Tortilla.

Mahalo Russ for orgainizing this and for putting this place into my radar. I pass by all the time and never gave this place a chance. Now I know there’s $ 1 decent tacos behind the door on Tuesdays, I’m so there. I especially enjoyed the shredded chicken tacos and yes, Emi is totally on it, the tortilla soup was nice with good kick. I’m curious to try their full menu sometime soon. The $ 3 beers and $ 51800 margaritas were nice.

Mmmm… the yummy goodness of $ 1 chicken and beef tacos and tortilla soup! I wish I knew about this place earlier! I live so close by and would have taken almost daily advantage of this place if I had known earlier. Their happy hour specials can’t be beat. If I had not eaten before I came I would have had so much more food! For this Unilocaly get together, I ordered two chicken tacos and one beef taco, one tortilla soup, one Heinken(my first Heiny draft!), and a cup of water. The tacos were so delicious and there were no skimping on the ingredients. It featured shredded chicken or beef with lettuce, cheese, and salsa. The soup also had shredded chicken with cheese, assorted veggies, and crumbled tortilla chips. The only drawback on the tacos were that they got soggy quickly and fell apart fast if you did not eat them right away. Still, they were so much better than the tacos at Taco Bell! I must say it again. $ 1 tacos! I was impressed by the décor of the place. There were many sayings that I had not heard before and they were very good. There was one that said«If you can talk you can sing. If you can walk you can dance.» That’s so true! Others said other cool and deep things. It had a Mexican flair and also a second floor(according to Emi, that’s where the pirates live!). Much mahalo to Russ for the good eats and great vibe of the place. Also, some people passed over some yummy garlic edamame. I only had a few pieces, but it was great. I owe somebody a beer and don’t worry. I have not forgot! I will get you next time!

I think I need to buy Unilocal Elite Russ M a crown because he is fo’ sho’ the King of the UYEs! How he picked Tropics for this particular happy hour gathering is beyond me but despite the divey atmosphere and the odd location, I actually had a really great time! Sure there were a swarm of about 18 smart n’ sexy Unilocalers in attendance(which always makes the party more fun) but the food was actually pretty decent. $ 1 for tortilla soup, $ 1 for a chicken taco and $ 1 for a beef taco. A whopping $ 3 for my dinner! Woot! Everything was decent, not the best I’ve ever had mind you, but can you really complain when something is priced at $ 1?! We went up to the cash only taco bar where the guy making the tacos asked to take our orders all at once so he didn’t have to take his gloves on and off. «He wears gloves?» I thought, «How surprisingly sanitary!» My BF also got the fish tacos which I thought were the highlight of the night as it tasted like a McD’s Filet-O-Fish wrapped in a tortilla. Winner! We washed everything down with $ 3 beers, $ 5 margaritas and a Coke for me! Russ M did forewarn me that Tropics smells like pirate and oddly enough he was correct. I actually expected to see a man with a peg leg and a parrot on his shoulder but I was sorely disappointed. After we left I realized that he must have been upstairs with the other scalliwags and eyepatch wearing misfits. Damn! Don’t expect stellar service at Tropics but if you’re joining Unilocalers for a UYE, do expect some wonderful company! Oh and watch them down those $ 1 tacos like there’s no tomorrow! It’s fascinating! Argghhhhhhhh…(That’s pirate for awesome!)
