Turn Down For What?! Now say that 100 more times, add a beat, and you have a song! Sort of kidding, but not. It’s a real thing! There’s actually a song called Turn Down For What. I’m still not sure what it means exactly, but my theory centers around hotpot. Lil John was hungry and his friends were telling him to turn it down. And his response was, «for what?!» Bam! A hit song is born. Bar 35 had an awesome deal on Tuesday nights. I’m not sure if they’re still doing it because when we arrived the price jumped up to $ 35 from $ 25 even though they advertised it on their Instagram just a week before. The deal was a whole bottle of wine and a whole pizza for 25 bucks! They were hesitant to give it to us, but finally caved. The pizza and drinks are awesome here! Believe it or not Bar 35 serves no domestic beers. This in fantabulous as I don’t care for domestic beers much. A stunning moment of the night was when a couple of Unilocalers were spanked with the large pizza paddles that were given to us. I suppose that’s what happens when you leave a large group of Unilocalers unsupervised with alcohol and food. I heard a Unilocal and then I witnessed them being disciplined! Much thanks for John N for picking up a round a shots for us! It was my first time having Belvedere and it was such a good vodka! Great seeing everyone again!

You know a UYE is awesome when you show up almost 3 hours late and there are still TONS of Unilocalers still there! I had a fancy shmancy dinner that I had already committed to, but I was SO determined to eventually make it to a UYE hosted by Mahina C & Claire F! I love those girls! Anywho, so Cathy T, Malia H, Jacob N & I all walk in many hours late, and there was an entire patio full of Unilocalers still hanging out and having fun! We were all warmly greeted with name shouts, big long hugs, and an awesome welcome! It might have been too late for us to get the wine & pizza deal, but it definitely wasn’t too late to get in on a round of shots and cocktails! I’ve got to say, even though we were late to the party, we were surprisingly not the last to show up! It was great getting to see and catch up with so many people! It was also sad to see Anthony C. go since this was his VERYLAST Unilocal related event in Hawaii(don’t mooooove!). All the chatting and drinking and chatting kept us all there until at least 11p, which was crazy and awesome all at the same time! Mahina C & Claire F were the last to leave and they were great hosts! I can’t wait for their next event!

Miso Horny! Yes, that DRINK would be Eric B.‘s martini of choice during Mahina C and Claire F’s first ever joint UYE at Bar 35. While Eric stayed with«Horny», I had a(Arthur) Golden idea and ordered a «Geisha» martini for myself. With all the martinis, shots, WINE, pizza, fries, laughter, Unilocalers, smiles, new friends, old friends, photos, and photobombing, the evening was well spent amongst good company. Mahina and Claire had smartly reserved, not just one, but TWO areas for our group. A lounge area with comfy chairs and couches was set aside indoors, while the entire back patio was reserved as well. I arrived at nearly 530pm with John N in tow, and met up with Mark H as the three of us were the first to arrive. The server informed us about the two areas reserved, and while we were trying to decide on indoor or outdoor, we ultimately chose to make an «executive decision» to enjoy the AC while waiting for the others to arrive. The two hostesses with the mostest were fashionably late as they arrived in matching polka dot tops and red shorts. Way to coordinate girls! Our group, which had considerably multiplied by 6pm, moved to the patio area since it was a slightly larger area. It was great to see a lot of familiar faces I hadn’t seen in a while: Gary N, Amara E, Mark H, Victoria M, Darren N, Arthur S and Anthony C. I also had the pleasure of meeting for the first time Unilocalers Wesley J and Daniel L. Yay Wesley! Yay Daniel! Also, cheers to Eric B for having that Miso Horny martini shot with me too. =) I truly appreciated all the fun laughs and great conservations at this UYE as my schedule(mostly work) hasn’t allowed me to attend many events over the past month. I especially want to thank Darren H for the terrific convo we had about life, Unilocal, and traveling. I gave into, or rather was STRONGLY encouraged, by Mahina C to join her for some vodka shots. Besides the Geisha martini I already drank, and in addition to the vodka shot, I also participated in a blind vodka tasting at the indoor bar where we were given four different types of vodka and challenge to accurately name them all. Sadly, I was nowhere near contention for the winning spot, but Mark H correctly named two of the four types of vodka. Yay Mark! Lastly, it was pretty awesome that Cathy T, Maka K, Jacob N, Malia H, and Talor M showed up later in the evening. Thanks guys for taking time out to join in all the fun! BOTTOMLINE: One could only wish time would stand still to enjoy the moment and this event a bit longer. THANKYOU to Mahina C and Claire F for planning and hosting a very captivating and enjoyable UYE full of laughter and cool people. =)

Both co-hosts Mahina C. and Claire F. have attended my UYE’s in the past so I really wanted to attend tonight and support them. However, I had to initially decline them for this Turn Down Tuesday as I previously have committed several months ago to an orientation and dinner at Toyota. I also had to pass on Chuggy Bear’s MW Restaurant dinner tonight. Super sad face :( So after my Toyota event I drove straight to Chinatown and was fortunate to have found street parking. I was somewhat disappointed as I was about to bring out my ID at the entrance of Bar 35 only to have the bouncer tell me «It’s okay, you can walk in.» I guess I look old… When I walked in after 8pm I saw fellow Elite Unilocaler Jennifer S., who I got to know better at the Hawaii Food Bank CMYE several months ago, as she was with her friends. I asked if the other Unilocalers were still here and she wasn’t sure so I headed to the back. At the outside patio there was a RESERVED sign and I looked up to find a whole bunch of Unilocalers holding wine glasses and talking away! I was greeted and received hugs from both Mahina C. and Claire F., who both wore the same outfit of red shorts and black & white polka dot tops! Looked around and saw a whole bunch of old faces with the exception of a handful of new faces. Made a couple of new friends tonight(Wesley J. and Josh) and met IRL Kim and Paul. You would think showing up late to a UYE is a disadvantage but not for me as I really lucked out. Why? Not to mention any names but someone took the pizza paddle and used it to spank me! I could barely feel it so I told her«harder» and the next thing I know my rear end started to sting! o_O It was a muggy night so peeps were going back and forth from the outside patio to the indoor table seating with air-conditioning. Although I did show up late I had a great time Unilocaling with awesome peeps tonight! In closing, MAHALO to Mahina C. and Claire F. for planning and organizing an entertaining UYE at Bar 35 tonight! NOTES: 1) I absorbed a lot of interesting info on my fellow Unilocalers tonight. At UYE’s you get to know each other and bond together. 2) Street parking is free from 6pm and there are neighboring municipal parking lots within walking distance. 3) I usually take photos but didn’t have my digital camera with me tonight and my cell phone was on super low percentage which didn’t allow me to take photos so I offer you my apologies. 4) Post UYE celebration had an intimate group of 4 Yeeps(John N., Victoria M., Gary N. and myself) to Mr. Tea Café as we tried new iced drinks to cool down from this recent MUGGY weather!
