WorkForce/Job Quest

Ever since I graduated college (UH Mānoa) at the end of 2008, I found myself frequently on the search of jobs. I’ve been going to the state’s biannual workforce job quest job fair since then. During my experience shopping around for a decent job since then I haven’t been able to land one specifically from any of the employers that I met there. What you can find at the job fair is a ton of state jobs like through the City and County, major local banks like Bank of Hawaii, some non profits like Easter Seals, Pearl Harbor is always there, lots of food one like Pizza Hut/​Taco Bell, retail jobs like Crazy shirts, and just tons more. I don’t think this job fair is really catered to liberal arts related majors like myself. I feel that it’s kind of a rough search for us. I believe it’s easier for people to land jobs that have a specific and technical purpose. Unless you are someone in the field of like engineering or nursing/​medical field then you don’t really have a direct route except retail. I don’t know but that’s just me and my personal observation and experience.
Going back to the logistics of the event itself. It is always held at the Neil Blaisdell exhibition hall. It’s about 3 bucks for the regular public. If you are a student and/​or military than it’s only a 1 dollar once is a great price just to look around and see what’s up. I would advise to come early. It’s always busy during the first two hours of the event. It’s usually from 10am to about 3pm. Be prepared to stand in line if you are going to come in the morning. Towards the afternoon time, it’s not so busy anymore. Parking is at the Blaisdell of course but if you don’t want to pay then look for the street parking and meters. If you are really a bum, I see choke people go to Sports Authority side and just park anywhere and anykine but that’s all you!
