Kite the Gorge

Carlos is a real class act. I had a true kitemare and lost my kite, bar and lines and had to swim in. I watched my kite flopping around and tried to track it down. I thought it was lost. I drove near Carlos shop to look for it and his crew had chased it with the jet ski and had it on the beach. They were more happy I had not gotten hurt! I am grateful for people like this in Hood River.

I was recommended KTG from some heavy hitters in the gorge and they didn’t disappoint. I was getting back into kiting after a decade’s rest. Carlos really took care of me adjusting the lessons to suit my needs. I really wanted to get the basics down and ensure I knew all the safety and self rescue. He was a pleasure to work with. He helped me hear up at Windance as well. Big thumbs up.

Fantastic two days with Carlos and his instructors. My son and I went from zero experience to kiting a decent bit in just two excellent lessons. They put a premium on safety and self-​reliance. I am confident that I can now get out on my own safely and successfully. Top quality slingshot equipment, jet skis and professional, patient instructors. Highly recommend if you are looking for a thorough start to kiting.

With a number of kite schools in the Gorge & Hood River, it can be hard to pick one. We went with Kite the Gorge because the owners, Spring & Carlos, are really personable and are committed to safety for their lesson & instructors. I took my first lessons with them two years ago and got to the point of getting out of the water with a board & kite after a couple lessons. This year, I was up & riding on my first lesson, and now feel totally comfortable going out on my own after my second lesson. My wife was just starting to get her first rides after three lessons. They have a great group of teachers, rigorously trained to teach kiting safely. We both felt very comfortable with safety gear & techniques. Our 9-​year-​old even enjoyed his trainer kite lesson. They have excellent Slingshot equipment and all the gear you need to start out. They have at least a couple of wave runners as well as wireless phone/​headsets. They’re not inexpensive, but proper education is worth paying for. Their location on the kite spit in Hood River positions them perfectly for easy access to the best learning area on the river. My only tip: on sunny day, in addition to sunscreen, don’t forget sunglasses with a retaining strap since you’ll be looking up in the air at the kite a lot!

Great staff, got me up and riding in one lesson. Would recommend to anyone.
