One size does not fit all!!! I have been trying to «like» or «enjoy» yoga for over 20 years– ableit I would only do it once or twice every 3 – 5 years, or so, at the persistant urging of a doctor, chiropractor, or good friend. I knew I «needed» yoga to help me, but I never really enjoyed the various classes I attended(full range) — until I went to one of Angela’s classes for the first time. Fun, upbeat, hard, challenging and all to the most amazing variety of music that I had never heard played in a yoga studio. I finally got my groove on, and am starting to reap the rewards of the practice. I can appreciate the more tradtional studios, but I found Root Down to be the first studio that matched my personality so that I felt comfortable enough to keep coming back. The Root Down studio, and its teachers all seem very encouraging and even inspirational. For others out there still trying to learn to enjoy yoga, I reccomend keep trying different classes, studios and teachers until you find what works for you. Your body will thank you.

I signed up for the trial week here and my first few classes were with Victoria who is truly amazing. The positive energy from the group that filled the room and her insightful instruction is exactly why I like to include studio yoga into my practice. I thought I had found my new«yoga home.» And then I came to Angela’s class, which is why I urge you to stay away. Angela is the worst yogi, and quite possibly even a horrible person… and she owns this place. First, she didn’t like my mat, or where I placed my mat, or which side of the mat I was using and proceeded to try to sell me a mat. Uhhh… Then, as I came into my first down dog she snaps at me to stop moving, so I froze. Then she proceeded to come and touch me on every pose! She didn’t know me! She didn’t ask me! She didn’t know my body! To her credit, she may have assumed that I wanted to get really deep into each pose because it is obvious that I have practiced before, but after hiking that day I was a little sore/tired, and wanted to take it easy. I listen to my body and don’t force poses. The penultimate straw was when, on my third down dog, she came and drove my heels into the mat! .heels.into.the.mat. I flipped over and asked her to stop, and that her touch felt critical… she said«fine» and marched around the room loudly saying how she is showing us how to do things correctly and how important it is for her to touch, blah, blah. It felt so hostile! So hostile, in fact, that I rolled up my mat and left… after only 8 minutes. If you look at the website, she violated all of her own tenets. I’d like to say my story is unique, but I felt compelled to write this review after swapping Angela horror stories at the Thirsty Woman with some folks I had just met. So join Root Down at your own risk, and/or only take classes from Victoria and Jen. Namaste.

I was so excited for this new studio to open up — Mary and Charles are great and you’ll have a positive experience whether you do Flow or Yin. The studio is a great space and will surely lift you up!
