Waucoma is hands down my favorite boom store(and as a major book worm… I’ve been in a few) the atmosphere here is awesome. Plus the staff is soooo friendly and willing to help. On the rare occasion that you can’t find a specific book your looking for they will search the Web to find and order it for you. Also, in addition to books they have some cute trinkets for sale. A while back I was doing some birthday shopping fir my boyfriend and picked up the most adorable seasoning rack while also purchasing«The Big Book of Bacon»(that I could not find in ANY other bookstore, including the 4 I went to in portland). Equally important, their prices are very fair, and everything is very well kept. Since stumbling upon this book store a few years back it’s my go to place for reading material, and I recommend it to every fellow book worm.

After thirty-odd years, walking through the doors still gets me as giddy today as it did as a kid. There is something about a real bookstore… with real books… that can’t be replaced by technology. Need a gift for any occasion and the perfect greeting card to go with? Start here. Looking for that perfect book for yourself? Ask staff for a recommendation or browse their selection. Life will be good if you can still find me shopping in this bookstore another thirty years from now!

There’s something to be said about finding the perfect independent bookstore — and Waucoma is right up there. We go every time we hit up Hood River, and I never fail to leave without an armful of treasures. Huge book selection, and the folks that work there are helpful — and quick to make suggestions. Besides books, they have a great selection of tchotchkes like socks and other gifts that are good for anyone on your shopping list. But really, you need to spoil yourself when you go here!

Love supporting this bookstore. They special order books for me all the time. Only takes a few days. My go to store for books. I only wish they didn’t have so many toys in there. More books less toys.

We decided to walk through the town of Hood River last weekend during some downtime that we had from my company retreat in Stevenson at the Skamania Lodge. This store was so cute! Bookstores are usually pretty fun to browse through, but this one also sold fun and wacky gadgets too. I didn’t end up buying anything, but my bf bought some mustache clip magnets for the fridge. Service was friendly, and I could’ve spent a few hours in there if I wanted to.

We simply must work hard to support such independent booksellers. A well-curated but broad selection awaits visitors. Worth a trip even for passers-by and tourists, as they have a nice selection of locally-themed books and mementos.

They didn’t have the book I was looking for, so they ordered it in, no fuss, complaining, or extra charge. Just a smile and«it’ll be here Tuesday, and we will call you!». Which they did. On Monday. Awesome.

This bookstore has a nice selection and great customer service(not pushy but sincerely helpful — if you need it). I always find something that I didn’t realize I «needed»(often good gifts) and I love supporting a local bookseller. They’ve been around forever and I just love visiting this place when I’m in town.

Waucoma has been around since 1976 and the word means means«place of the cottonwood tree», and refers to the confluence of the Hood and Columbia Rivers. Prior to the damming of the Columbia, this spot served as an important gathering and trading place for the area’s native inhabitants. This independent book store fills a similar role for this Oregon Community. I enjoyed my too brief visit to this book store, and particularly enjoyed all the notes on the stacks, the book selection(of course), and a nice array of calendars and various gift items. Service is friendly and helpful, and is a nice place to explore some literary possibilities.

I love books, but hate paying full price. What is a reader to do? Sometimes supporting a local bookstore can be a bit painful when you know you can easily get the same product at a lower price elsewhere. But, I am still old school and prefer the feel of a book to the eReader, so I haven’t quite made the jump and still love browsing the aisles for inspiration. The Waucoma Bookstore is a regular stop for me in Hood River. I used to like this store more until I found the Book Stop just down the road, because there is very little on sale here. The sale section is one very tiny bookshelf that practically hides in the corner. Things I do like about this location are all the notes on the stacks. Reviews, brief summaries, staff picks and notes. They have a good selection of books, calendars and gift items. But, my customer service experience here has been a bit mixed. One employee is a little less friendly than the others. So I’ll continue to give them a try, but lately my purchases have been at G. Willikers Toy Store(children’s books are in the basement) and the Book Stop which is filled with discounted paperbacks. So I’m still supporting the little guy, they just happen to be down the street.

I love this book store! Great boutique selection of books. My favorite part is the little write-ups that the store employees do on the books there. You can find(on a hugh percentage of the books) a 3X5 card with a short review hand written by a book store employee. It really helps to choose something interesting — and helps you branch out into areas you might not normally try. The service counter is always very helpful and friendly. And, if they don’t have it, they will order it for you. Great store!

Not only does this bookstore have books, there is a large selection of gifts, crafts, cards, and whatever else you might need for a birthday. I liked the cheap Melissa & Doug products, things like puzzles, magnetic letters, and more for kids. I’d go here to look through magazines, or to look for gifts from the area. It’s an independent bookstore, kid friendly and all that.
