Joe’s Crab Shack

We love seafood and we will definitely be back! Our service was good and our drinks and food was awesome! We both got steam pots, mine the ragin cajun and hers the classic! We are so full and really enjoyed ourselves. We also had drinks (margarita and the tko) — both great! We have no complaints!

Joe’s Crab Shack USED TO BE my favorite place to eat for years. Anyone who knows me knows that I placed NO other restaurant above Joe’s… until my last two experiences. Now, I’ll most likely never eat there again. Joe’s (apparently ALL Joe’s Crab Shacks) did away with their very best steam pots (e.g. my favorite, which was the Samuel Adams Steam Pot and others) and now have only 4 selections. WRONG MOVE and BAD IDEA!!! We visited this Joe’s (just outside of Birmingham) on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm. I ordered the Arctic Bay Steampot. When I ate the lobster tail, it was so mushy I could almost drink it. Worst lobster ever!!! I had to fight the urge to vomit. My wife’s salmon was also raw in the middle of it. She enjoyed the edges. I should have complained to the waiter and manager, but we were dealing with my wife’s sick dad in the hospital.
Another Joe’s (in Morrow, Georgia) is employed by an all black staff who absolutely/​utterly hate white people for some reason. We experienced reverse-​discrimination there on February 28^th, 2016. Joe’s will have to change A LOT to ever get my family and me back in any of their restaurants. Joe’s WAS THE best restaurant chain in the USA. Major decline in quality all around.
The ONLY good thing about our visit was the waiter, who was awesome. As such, I do not blame him for this experience.

Ordered the Joe’s Classic Steampot. The crab was overcooked. Bummer. I have eaten at this chain in other cities (Louisville, KY) in the past and had a very good product. This was below average. The service was also «so-​so». I ordered sweet tea and the first tea I got had no sugar. Subsequent teas were good. Really hoped for better.

Came in on a Thursday evening with my children. We sat outside and ordered coronas, Sharks bites, crab nachos, kids crab pots and a classic steam pot and the Cajun steam pot and the Artic steam pot ((honestly I’ve forgotten the name but it started with an A)). Everything was cooked as expected but the lobster was over cooked and tough and chewy. My waiter Lindsey was very patient and attentive to our table. Overall the experience was great and I would return on a Monday when kids eat free lol!!!

I had the fish and chips and it was pretty good. Or either I was just starving! The restaurant was okay. Not the most fanciest restaurant around. I’m sure there are nicer seafood restaurants in town. Overall the service was great! Probably won’t go back though.

This was our worst experience ever in Birmingham. Our waiter Rocky or per the ticket Antonio forgot about us half the time. We received our entrée before the appetizer and when we brought this up he asked if we still wanted him to put it in. He did not apologize for the mistake. Another server passed by and offered to help us and brought the appetizer to the table. When we received the check we were meet with even more DISAPPOINTING NEWS, our server put the appetizer back on the check!!! We asked the female waitress and she assured us this would be corrected no need to get the manager involved. The check return and by that time all we wanted to do was pay and leave. Again the appetizer was there and only a couple of dollars was taken off. She apologized again and this time informed us she was trying to help her husband who brought the ticket back for the final time and still did not offer to apologize for any inconveniences. My wife said the meal was good but the service was horrible and our experience was very disappointing.

Joe’s Crab Shack on Saturday nights not a place to go too crowded in the restaurant service sucks I got little neck clams and got them Frozen go figure I think it was more the waitress anything then anything else she did not want to bring the food back but she apologized the other waiter taken back and he did it back up will be going back but probably during the week when you get better service and it’s crowded

Sooooooo, as much as I love Joe’s Crab Shack, this visit has been horrible! I expect to wait a while on Saturday but to be seated after a 40 minute wait and then have to wAit 40 minutes more is just horrible! Our waitress didn’t bother checking on us after telling us one of the fryers was broken. She assured us it would only be a fifteen minute delay. However, 15 minutes have come and gone twice over. What a disappointment. At least offer us a chip or two!!!

Came here in the evening with a very healthy appetite as I hadn’t eaten all day. That always adds a wonderful spice to whatever you eat. That being said, I ordered the «beer battered» fish, shrimp, and scallops. My brother got a plate that included crab cakes.
My fish was definitely not beer battered, It was okay for what it was – fried food – but any good Southerner can tell you the difference between regular breaded and beer battered food.
My brother said his crab cake was still cold in the center and had the taste of being old, maybe refrigerated in an open container for a couple days (his words)
Needless to say, we were a little disappointed in our visit. For the price we paid, we definitely expected a lot better!

Where do I begin! Such a fantastic experience! I visited the location yesterday (Saturday December 26).I was promptly greeted by the host as I walked in! They were smiling and acted excited to have us there. Our food was absolutely amazing! We ordered the Rajun Cajun. The seasoning was just right! We also were asked by the manager Randy I believe was her name, she was absolutely nice and checked on us! Our favorite part was our server Drew. He was always smiling and was honestly one of the best servers we have ever had. He even asked us to dance when they danced. I will defiantly be back to this location! Thank you for an amazing time!

Second time here. Good food and service both times. Ask for Marcus! He took care of us well.

It’s alright, i usually just get one of the seafood buckets. I think they are cheating people out of money lately, because its not a lot of food for the price. But my waiter was awesome anyways, the three stars are to him.

Came here one evening for a friend’s birthday dinner. There was 6 of us and we were able to sit outside before it got too cold. I definately could have given it 5 stars from when I arrived to the appetizers… but after that, it’s where I changed my mind a bit.
Customer service: The waitress we had was very friendly and attentive for the most part. She handled 6 of us very well and was quick when we asked for something. They had a promotional piece in their menus that was not being offered anymore… a few of the items were but half of them were not so my hopes got high about a particular menu item then my bubble got popped when I found out it is not available. Not sure why they would still put it in the menu. At the end we waited over 15 minutes for our check so we finally had to go ask. So there ya go, the pros and cons to customer service that evening…
The food: I think they offer an ok quality of food. I ordered a crab cake with onion strings. I loved the onion strings. The crab cake was very bland for my taste buds. My food wasn’t warm when I received it so that was odd. My friend had crab legs and liked it. The rest ordered shrimp and they really enjoyed them. Portion wise I think they do a great job. We all felt it was a little pricey for what we received quality wise overall.
I would for sure go back and stick with an appetizer and maybe try a drink.

Had dinner there last Saturday night and it was great. Loud and busy but the food was great and service was excellent. There was a group of small kids there and they gave them some hats and had a conga line with them. It was a lot of fun and the kids were having a great time along with the adults. Will go back when in the area.

My family came to this location in Birmingham Alabama for dinner. The restaurant was quite busy. The service was above average however I can see why the rating is a two star. Nothing spectacular about the food. And I don’t like fishy smell like fish. The hush puppies have a kick to them. I think those are my favorite. I ordered classic snowcrab legs plain steamed they had other flavors as well

Disgusting, don’t waste your money! There are plenty of places to get better seafood around Birmingham than this place! Overpriced and the lowest of quality!

The service from the original waiter was short and to the point but she did get most of the order right minus one minuet thing. The food was fair enough and about what you should expect from a standard chain restaurant. However, one of the other waiters that brought out a few items to us was rather curt and passive, merely dropping the items (check from the order and to-​go cup of water) in a rather disinterested, slightly annoyed manner. One of the managers came over a few times and made sure that me and my party were taken care of. It’s an enjoyable food spot as casual place for a decent sit down meal if it is not too crowded.

Although the place was packed and the service was fine, the food itself did not taste good. There was loads more fried foods than we expected.

This place sucks. Terrible food, lousy service, and awful atmosphere. Don’t go here.

Bland seafood, mediocre service. Large crowds with lots of crying toddlers. Herd ‘em in and get ‘em out. Well-​overpriced. Won’t be going back.
