Went there for the Fathers Day lunch and was not impressed. Very overpriced for 2 ribs a chicken leg and literally a tablespoon of potato salad and a ¼ piece of a corn. Yes and a modest dessert of vanilla ice cream and berries. All this for $ 26.99 a plate. Waitress was ok but the women who brought us the bill called out my husbands name loudly and when he acknowledged her she just placed the bill on the table. No pleasantries once so ever… no thank you, no have a great day or happy Father’s Day. The 2 stars is for the garden patio and the Beautiful view of mountains across the street but next time I will just pack a lunch and do a hike to take in the beauty. My husband said we will never go back. Glad we checked it out before bringing our out of town clients there for meals.

Sorensen’s is a great resort on the Walker river. The cabin is very clean and has a good sized bedroom and large kitchen. Dinner at the restaurant was very good. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating.(Thanks Kel and Bryan) I highly recommend that you take a short drive to Hope Valley and walk along the river and in the meadow. Beautiful! There are also areas along the river to walk and it appears that this is a great fishing area as I saw numerous people fishing along the river. Highly recommend.

Update: The owner John has not returned any of my phone calls or tried to contact me the past couple of days. I guess Sorensen’s has no regard for their guest’s experience and it’s unfortunate how poor their customer service is. I would never stay here ever again and would not recommend this establishment to anyone.

Had a wonderful, quiet weekend at Sorenson’s last weekend. My boyfriend and I drove by several years ago, and we finally had the opportunity to stay there. We stayed in the Piñón cabin, small but warm and cozy. We had the B&B option, so we had great breakfasts included. The restaurant makes wonderful dinners as well(we didn’t even have room for lunch).

I’d really rather give it 10 **********, that’s how great it was for My husband & I. we camp in the area and had always wanted to stay there for more than 15 years. well, we finally did. what an absolute treat, and it was on our wedding anniversary, even better. the staff are soooo nice and welcoming. we have reservations for next year, a 4 night stay. We can hardly wait to go. it will be in the winter time again, we need to stay during the summer time. it is truly gorgeous there, and I love love love ALL the cabins.

We stayed in the«Chapel». What a romantic visit. No wifi, no cell signal a cozy cute cabin that was very comfortable. The café at the resort was wonderful, but we also brought food and cooked. The kitchen had the tools we needed. With a fresh snow there was cross country skiing nearby and great snowshoeing opportunities right out our door! We will be back!

The resort has lots of interesting cabins within close proximity of each other and CA-88. It is also close to Kirkwood skiing and other winter activities. The staff and guests were friendly and happy. Breakfasts were very good, lunches decent, and dinners were delicious.

Nice getaway spot, with a beautiful, challenging snowshoe hike right out the back door up into the mountain. 3 minute drive to peaceful cross-country skiing in Hope Valley, and a short drive also to Grover Hot Springs. Great for a 3 day weekend! Bed and breakfast cabin notes: Very cute, cozy, clean. There’s no real sitting area or fireplace, and the walls are very thin, so you’ll be able to hear your neighbor get out of bed! They’re also right alongside the highway, although traffic is minimal. Be ready to tip the waitress in the dining room during breakfast, which at their breakfast prices comes out to about $ 6 – 7 per person.(Warning: If you don’t tip them at breakfast, they come after you with an attitude.) Breakfast is absolutely delicious. Lastly — the sauna hut is amazing, and basically always available! You make your own fire, and it’s got plenty of room for friends. The dining room is also adorable, and they gave us complimentary wine upon arrival and have hot beverages available all day(included in your stay).

We had to stay in this resort last week as we were stuck in snow and all roads were closed to comeback to Bay Area, CA. Receptionist was extremely patient and nice. I forgot her name. She was too sweet! We paid 250 $ for 2 twin bed — 1 cabin for 1 night. Cabin was very clean. All the kitchen appliances were kept in the kitchen neatly. There was a fire place too. No TV and no wi-fi. It’s a remote place. Food was not good in the café. It was below average and pricey too. Beware of bears and keep all the foods inside and get it locked. Over all a nice to stay with family!

The cabin was clean and bed was good. The staff were attentive and friendly. Food options were excellent. We had the burgundy stew and a large salad for dinner — the stew had deep flavor and the salad greens with some green dressing tasted fresh. We had veggie omelette for breakfast, which was satisfying and not oily. We are backcountry skiers, thus we rely on the internet to check for avalanche and weather forecast, decide which peak to go to based on those forecasts, and download topo and/or beta if needed. We also prefer to be at the trailhead before or at first light around 7 – 7:30am ready to go with topo/beta/forecast, fueled up on heavy breakfast, as well as sandwiches and snacks that we will have on the mountain. This was where Sorenson’s disappointed us. We were aware that breakfast starts at 7:30am. We came prepared with instant oatmeal and instant coffee, but there was no way for us to get hot water as our cabin did not have a kitchen, not even a microwave, and the office and café opens at 7:30am. In retrospect, we should have packed our JetBoil for this purpose. Time for Plan B — the café ¼ mile down the road, but that one opens at 8am! There are no other food options unless you drive to the next town in the wrong direction. Because there was no internet or cell phone coverage, we could not check for forecasts. If this was communicated to us when we made the reservation, or simply state it on their website, then we would have not stayed here. We instead spent about 30min in the car by the side of the road on the morning of our supposedly big day for backcountry skiing. After sorting out food and logistics, we finally started skinning around 10am — way too late. I found a book titled ‘The Art of Doing Nothing’ in our room. If you are planning to do nothing and just go with the flow, then Sorenson’s is the place for you. If you have scheduled activities on a strict timeline, then maybe look for another place to stay.

This place is magical and so charming. The staff received us with such a kind and efficient service. The cabin was so sweet, cute, cozy and warm and the price was really fair. We were snowboarding at kirkwood and it was just 30 mins from the slopes. We will definitely come back!

A great place to unplug and relax. We’ve been going to the café for years whenever we were in the area, but never stayed at the resort until Thanksgiving 2015. It was wonderful. The cabins are great, and we were able to stay in a pet friendly unit and bring our dog. The holiday rates were more expensive, but not unreasonable. It has been a long time since we «unplugged» without internet or cellphone service. It was wonderful to escape from the world for a while… reading, listening to music and playing board games. We got lucky and had fresh snow to play in, hike in, and snow shoe. I would definitely go back for a return trip. If you want access to all your tech toys, this won’t be the place for you. If you like nature and being away from it all, then this place is pure bliss.

Very cozy amazing pet friendly Alpine cabins with great food on site and amazing Coffee. Hector our server is very polite and accommodating. great customer service from the whole staff. I wish the grounds were a little more maintained by clearing all the tall grass and the cabin we stayed«the redwood«was immaculate inside but the front porch had couple nails sticking out needed a little more care.

We had such a great anniversary here. We were met with a card and champagne in our cabin-and everyone at the resort was so friendly and helpful. We spent an amazing day fly fishing and eating at the resort restaurant. The food was superb and hearty, and Hector was a fantastic waiter. After we got home, we received a kind card thanking us and a coupon for our next stay. We will definitely go back. We highly recommend the Doug Fir cabin for 2. Great running trails right behind the cabin.

Was a childhood place we stayed several times in mid ’70’s when not camping at Hope Valley, not the resort, in the meadow. Akways my favorite time! Haven’t been there for years. It was beautiful, the cabin was the one we always stayed in, Juniper. Very nicely re-done. The staff were so accomodating. We had dinner promptly delivered to our cabin. Delicious. As no phone service, our oldest daughter was worried so called twice to check on us. Promptly delivered her msgs to us. Got our 2 ½ yr old grandson his tackle and bait there and off to the meadow to fish! Loved the availability of the campfire. Sat and roasted marshmellows and made smores with our grandson and daughter. It will become again a family traditonal vacation!

We live in Truckee, and decided to go down to stay at Sorenson’s overnight to do some hiking and see the fall colors down there. Personally, I like funky places that have character and don’t look like the cookie-cutter motels you find on every offramp in every city. Sorenson’s is exactly the kind of place we like, funky, clean, cozy, no cell phone reception(but they do have a pay phone), clean, rustic rooms with all the basics. We ate at their restaurant for both dinner and breakfast, and we were pleasantly surprised– they did a good job in both quantity and quality. The resort is in the center of the fall colors, and I highly recommend it for a base for your fall color hiking. One of the previous reviewers complained about road noise, and there is some, but it wasn’t too bad for us and we had one of the cabins right on the road. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Just make sure you know what you want. If you want a full service, all amenities hotel don’t stay here. If you want a cabin in the woods with everything you need(Beds, Bathroom, Shower, Hot water, power, clean, kitchenette, quiet, good quality stuff that works) and nothing that you don’t need(internet, TV, shops and 21st century stuff-n-brands) then this place cannot be beaten. The staff are wonderful. The food in the restaurant was great but too pricey for us to indulge daily(dinner for 4 $ 230 with tip). Didn’t try breakfast but menu sounded awesome. Staff very accommodating and friendly and customer focused. They have some cabins that allow a dog. Plan on getting through some gasoline if your daily plan is to head to any part of Lake Tahoe — its 20 mile round trip to South Lake Tahoe and over a steep mountain pass road. I’ll be back. This place is practically perfect. Wish they would cut the grass between cabins. They really should get one(for-fee, primarily to limit use) internet kiosk in the lobby/store/café just for looking up daily hiking routes, and basic«life housekeeping». Strongly suggest they just forget about wifi at the resort and don’t even mention it. The off grid-ness is part of the appeal.

I stayed at Sorensen’s 11 years ago. It was a romantic get away with my boyfriend. Dead of winter during a snow storm. It was fabulous. Very clean, well kept room. We had a wonderful wood fireplace with plenty of wood. No phone, no TV. Had champagne and a nice card in the room from the resort as it was my 30th birthday celebration. Owners take pride in offering a comfortable stay in a beautiful location. I am currently planning another stay this winter.

Last minute reservation for one night of our two week fall colors drive through northern California, Nevada and Oregon. Only one cabin left available: The Aspen Cabin(seemed appropriate!). Sorensen’s is bulls eye for fall colors, in the midst of jillions of colorful Aspen groves. The place is charmingly rustic, but our«only available cabin» was very small with no living room, just a kitchen table, Still, it was fine for our weary needs. The dining room served the best, the staff was friendly, and looking over the other cabins motivates us to return for a longer stay in a larger cabin.

I have been visiting Sorensen’s since the early 1990’s when I enjoyed my first white Christmas there in the pet cabin, Wagonwheel, with my adventurous cat and husband. I have returned almost every year in every season but spring. In October the grounds are ablaze in golden tones when the aspens change. In the winter there is great cross country skiing across the highway in the Hope Valley or at the extensive trail system at Kirkwood Ski Resort on the other side of the Carson Pass. In the summer many wild flower dotted trails beckon. Some are very challenging and some are an easier stroll with amazing views across the ridgelines to forever. Since I am also a I am a camper, I am always grateful to be in a cozy cabin when the thunder clouds explode with big drops of rain.(we camped at Sorensen’s Campground one year and we found it quiet and beautiful.) There are several books in each cabin to give you the scoop on the trails in the area. We usually bring food to cook dinners and prepare our own breakfasts and lunches and then treat ourselves to one night out and one spectacular breakfast at the café’. The food is seriously delicious, simple as befits the locale and the staff is friendly and efficient. The resort staff is helpful as well. If weather permits, try to get a table outside which gives you a gourmet camping feeling. In the winter the dining room is welcoming with a fire and huge log slice tables which you may be sharing with like minded people. My current cat is not as adventurous as my first cat but many people and dogs seem to enjoy the pet cabins. Dogs are allowed on trails while on a leash, where I enjoy petting the many little characters. All of the cabins we have stayed in over the years have been charming, clean and well fitted for cooking. I must admit I bring a few extra cooking utensils that we regularly lose but I don’t think it’s really necessary. I appreciate the propane fireplaces in some cabins when we stay in the winter because wood smoke is very irritating to my lungs. Don’t let any more time go by without visiting Sorensen’s! It’s a one of a kind gem.

We just moved to Virginia and stayed at Sorenson’s for one final night in California. The service and warm best wishes we received from John, Patty and the staff was a welcome break from the stress of packing and traveling. To add to the quality of our experience, we booked one of the B&B rooms across from the office/restaurant, but on arrival, discovered we had been upgraded at no additional cost to one of the very cabins, Saint Nick’s, we loved staying in during our frequent trips up from the Bay Area. The dinner and service that night was superb as always… one of the treats awaiting tired travelers, and in our experience, without fail. We may never be back to visit but If there’s ever the chance to do so this place felt more like home than did the place we left behind. Thanks Sorenson’s — we will never forget you! Kind Regards, Joe and Nalini Karp

Yeah we finally stopped here! This place is absolutely lovely to sit outside and enjoy a meal. Food was excellent! Too bad the service was not, pretty slow for only four occupied tables. I also heard the server chastising some people who sat at a table that had not been bussed… really? upon entering the hostess/cashier tells you«sit anywhere».

2.5 stars. This review is for the accommodations because we didn’t eat there. No comments on the sauna because we didn’t use it. Pluses: Tea, coffee & hot chocolate complimentary for guests during the day. They allow pets — or that could be a minus for some. The cabin was clean & not worn/run down. There were adequate pots & pans for cooking. Minuses: There was no electricity from when we arrived at 3pm until after 11pm, due to a construction mishap on the property. There was a gas stove, but cooking dinner in the dark was a challenge, even if we were both smart enough to bring flashlights — I would have been a stellar girl scout. Couldn’t charge our phones or listen to music. Plus we had to worry about all the food we brought going bad because the fridge was off for so long. No we weren’t offered a partial refund or free meal during our stay for the inconvenience. There was a small water heater in the cabin. So we could either wash the dishes or take a shower, not both. Showering in the dark was also inconvenient. I had to skip washing my hair because was afraid there wasn’t enough water & the shower head sprayed a mist which would have taken forever to rinse my hair. Plus there was no electricity to blow dry my hair. The shower stall was pretty tiny & I’m a small person. Another downside is there is no heater in the bathroom so it was freeezing cold! There is nothing worse than getting out of a warm shower into a meat locker/cold room. There was only 1 gas stove/heater, located in the sleeping area, to heat the entire cabin. Not enough. At check-in we were told that there were problems with the heater. Well, I wish they placed us in another cabin because at about 1am the heater turned off so we froze all night despite the down comforter — uh it was in the 30 – 40’s that night! The night was so cold that the little pond near the entrance was partially frozen in the morning. Bed was a full/double, not a Queen as stated in the description. No sitting area so we either had to sit in at the chilly kitchen table or on the small full/double bed. There was 1 chair in the sleeping area but there were 2 of us. Generally wouldn’t be an issue but there isn’t much to do in the area at night so you’re likely to be in the cabin. Yes, the cabins are located near the road so traffic noise may be an issue.
