The Pastry Garden

I actually have the opposite opinion of the previous reviewer — I strongly dislike the Poughkeepsie location of Pastry Garden, and have had some incredibly rude comments from the owner about my honest opinion of their establishment that I thought was incredibly unprofessional. I was in a pinch to get a birthday cake for my sister-​in-​law 2 days ago and we passed by the Hopewell Junction location, and decided to stop in in a pinch. I have always enjoyed this location — the décor is cute, whimsical, and very inviting (which is the opposite of the Poughkeepsie location, whose décor seems a bit stale, not open, and more like a sales counter instead of a bakery to really sit and enjoy yourself — just my honest opinion, hopefully the owner doesn’t take offense to that).
In any event, I was greeted by a very friendly staff-​person who was able to immediately accommodate for a chocolate-​free cake (because my father-​in-​law is allergic to chocolate). She did a beautiful job writing on the cake (and spelled everything correctly), and really gave us some great customer service.
The ice cream selection, cleanliness, and great treats here means that this location (and in my opinion, not the Poughkeepsie location) is a great place to stop for a sweet treat or a celebration cake anytime.

The location in poughkeepsie is def 5 stars! Just moved to the hopewell area and was excited to have a pastry garden close by! On their site it says 24 hour notice for a cake. I was cutting it close (was at maybe 26 hours) when I went in the shop but was told its too late for the next day. Proceeded to order two cannoli cakes off the shelf with writing for the next day. When we went to go pick the cake up they had spelled «Kristen» as «Christen» and said that’s how we must have spelled it on the slip. When the paperwork proved otherwise they did change the cake. Overall not impressed with the service did not seem very friendly at all (poughkeepsie location has been amazing!) the cake is 5 stars without a doubt but minus 2 for the service.
