Not only are the prices extremely outrageous, but the fried food was horrible! Possible the worst in Houma. The fried gator was so chewy, it was almost inedible. I had the fried crawfish and my mother had the fried shrimp. I found my crawfish to too chewy as well. I also felt that it wasn’t seasoned enough. We did have the cheese fries with bacon as our side and that was delicious! When our bill came it was $ 70!!! We basically paid $ 70 for cheese fries! Save yourself some grief and go somewheres else. There’s plenty to chose from.

Everytime I’m in Houma, I go to Big Al’s for boiled crawfish. The crawfish is excellent when they have them although they never seem to have enough. I am usually only in town for Thanksgiving and Christmas though so understandable. The fried gator tail is also very good. I have never tried anything else on the menu but what I have had was yummy.

This Restaurant is listed Twice this is #2 of the same review. Do yourself a favor, spend the time looking and go elsewhere, even Chili’s just down the street. I should have known better, I have eaten here many times before when I lived here 2003 to 2008). Big Al’s is just the same. The prices are high, the service is low and the taste is boring. On a Sunday in early September, we had the(overpriced) seafood platter, it all tasted the same and not good(small, chewy oysters, over breaded shrimp, cold fries). We didn’t even finish it, we decide to go somewhere better in a couple hours & eat again. Also, we called ahead to confirm they had boiled crabs, when we arrived 20 minutes later, they did not nor had they planned on having any that day.

Awesome fried alligator, though I’m not exactly well versed in what is great gator and what is not. Been here a couple of times while on business from Houston. The waitresses were nice and um… flirty. Then again, my coworker and I had already had a few pops before we showed up. She was INSISTENT that we try this oyster appetizer. Now, my coworker and I both love oysters, but we like them the way Allah intended — raw. These were grilled oysters with some kind of cheesy topping — SOSO good. She was right on. Between that, the gator, and all the beer — Big Al’s was a good time. Can’t wait to go back. More stars when I enjoy the entrees as much as the beer, the service, and the appetizers!

Let’s start with the good part… our server. He was great. Dealt with 11 hungry, slightly buzzed merchant mariners with separate tickets and got everything spot on. But that’s a review on the server… not Big Al’s. Unfortunately, despite our servers best efforts, the food was sub par at best. It was incredibly salty and not especially delicious. Portions were good sized for a bunch of hungry dudes, but a lot of bad food does not equal a good dining experience. I had fried frog legs and a cup of seafood gumbo for an app. The frog was fine, the gumbo had crawfish that tasted like last week. Had boiled shrimp for my entrée that, despite being a few miles from the Gulf, tasted like they had been frozen for three weeks prior to being significantly overcooked. They were seasoned meagerly. Had potatoes and corn with the dinner. Both tasted old. Not that this makes for big points at a joint like this, the presentation was really really very bad. Service was awesome, prices were high, and the food was not good, fresh, or unique. Big Al’s is eminently missable. Try 1921 for Cajun seafood or Osaka for sushi.

Please don’t waste your time here. It looks busy and authentic, but it was EXTREMELY underwhelming. We were there during the last week of Mardi Gras, and they had no crawfish? WTF? The Po Boys were blah, the Gumbo was luke warm… just don’t go here.

Nice local seafood restaurant. Boiled seafood is excellent. The fried food is also good. Adequate service and reasonably priced. With checking out!
