Store has closed. You will now have to venture out of the safety and serenity of the inner city to shop for mind numbing junk. I will miss you 99 cents only store in montrose. Boo Hoo.

The thought of giving a 99 Cent store 5 stars is a little weird, but I have to give credit where credit is due. As far as dollar stores go, this is the most luxurious store I’ve found. It was not crowded or smelly, it was brightly lit and decently organized, and my cashier actually smiled(albeit for only a moment, but I’ll take what I can get). I got all my wrapping supplies for Christmas, plus a other miscellaneous goodies for mere pennies. It was fabulous. I finished wrapping all my gifts for all my family members and co-workers and I still have left over bags and tissue paper. I’m so impressed at how much I saved that I have a feeling that I’ll be going back for little goodies like that more often than not.

Wow, this place was big and spacious and had a nice parking lot. Fayza and Liz S. were right – this place carries so much stuff, you don’t need to trek all the way over to sexy Target for basic stuff. Need cooking utensils? Check. Canned foods? Check. School supplies? Check. Seasonal décor? Oh yeah! The best part is they have a big sign next to the registers stating that everything in the store is no more than $ 0.99. I picked up some Halloween stuff, including costume make-up for $ 0.54 and gave me fiancé a fake black-eye realistic enough for people at CVS to ask him what happened. My main concern with the products is that they’re so off-brand, I hope they don’t contain lead or something made in China that will slowly kill me.

I’m not much for plastic things, but if you need some, this is your place. Seriously, this store has everything from cell phone accessories to seasonal decorations and school supplies(some of them name brand). They also sell 99 cent phone cards. Like Fayza said, this chain definitely avoids the rummage-in-a-low-shelf look and feel of most dollar stores. You can find what you need, they have a whole aisle of candy bars, and everything is clean and well-lit. This store is sometimes open late, too, so take advantage of the convenient savings if that’s your sort of thing.
