Amy’s Ice Creams

Came here the other night after I was craving some dessert and Fat Cat and even the DQ near me was already closed. This place was a solid experience and had it not been for the Dude Malted at Fat Cat or Jeni’s Ice Cream in Nashville, I would probably rate it higher.
I got the dark chocolate scoop and coconut scoop combo with cookie dough on top. My girlfriend got a scoop of the rum butter. The coconut didn’t taste a whole lot like coconut but it did have pieces of coconut in it. The dark chocolate was delicious. The cookie dough was fresh (not frozen) and actual cookie dough. That part was extremely impressive. We also tried the butter cream flavor and I actually thought that one was amazing.
My small combo and my girlfriend’s tiny was almost $ 9 and I heard the lady tell the young man scooping my ice cream to «make sure you don’t fill it too much.» I was quite put off by that. I mean, if I’m paying for the ice cream, I would expect to get my money’s worth. I may return because the shop was cute and the people were nice, but it wouldn’t be my first choice for fresh ice cream.

There is always service with a smile here.
Their flavors change frequently and there are a lot of «crush ins» to choose from.

Overrated. Overpriced. Always a super long line that moves sooooo slowly. The four people working last night moved around with absolutely no urgency and with not even half of a smile. 3 out of 4 of them looked miserable.

I have always returned here for their ice cream. Try out their Mexican vanilla! It’s one of a kind that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. A plus to this place is that they are open really late. If you’re one of those with sweet tooth, then you better be careful when you get this ice cream on your tongue.
I believe this came from Austin as well, but it has been in Houston for a long time. It’s next door to a Freebird’s and behind the Audi dealership if you’re having trouble trying to find it.
Definitely try their Mexican Vanilla on a cone and if you don’t really eat too much, please save yourself with a tiny size. A friend of mine went for a small and said it was over the top for him.
They slap around the ice cream just like marble slab and have additional toppings to your choice. Create your own or select one they have created for you.

This is just good ice cream with a lot of options and they will do some cool tricks to make ya feel at home. I love it.

3.5 stars. Amy’s is one of those hipster spots that has made its way from Austin and that we have welcomed with open arms like Torchy’s. Located right across the street from The Halal Guys, dessert was calling my name after all that white sauce. Amy’s has a hipster cow mascot which is pretty awesome. They have a lot of daily flavors but I went with a waffle cone with the classic Mexican vanilla and honey vanilla. I had never had honey with vanilla ice cream before and don’t understand why more places don’t do this as it’s a great combo. The Mexican vanilla is one of their most popular flavors.
Bathrooms are pretty grody but hey they’re hipsters so no need to wash your hands or anything. They had a special flavor called The Dude which was pretty cool. Props if you know what movie that’s from.

Finally had a chance to try out Amy’s Ice Creams after years of driving by there. Great service and ice cream. A little steep for the amount of ice cream they give you but hey, they’re not a grocery store.

Salty dog sundae — so good! Mexican vanilla ice cream with hot fudge and pecan praline topping. Very cute décor and friendly staff.

I came here for the first time on a Saturday at 8:26. The line was pretty sizable but moved quickly. We started right by the door & got to the check-​out by 8:45. You can order a tiny, small, or large. My friends & I ordered the following:
–Blackberry ice cream
–Orange chocolate ice cream w/​Oreos
–Belgian chocolate ice cream w/​Reese’s pieces
The texture is very light. Similar to how the Yoplait whips style yogurt stuff is. Flavors are fantastic. All three of us were happy with our choices. I can see why it is so popular.
Suggestions for improvement:
1. Use that big blank brick wall to put a secondary menu for those of us waiting in line to read.
2. Add a fourth ice cream person to the line. The three weren’t really cutting it for a Saturday night!
3. Have a better routing of the line so that the chairs & tables closest to the door can be used instead of surrounded by a wall of people waiting.

Amy’s is pretty incredible ice cream! With it’s array of constantly changing flavors (alcoholic ones too!) and the millions of ways you can combine crushed candy or cookies within your ice cream, it’s always a dynamic experience. I’ve always loved the slight bitter quality of the alcoholic ice cream. It’s also really fun to watch how they make it :)

Ice-​creams here are very rich and creamy which is how all ice-​creams should be! I was suggested to try vanilla by a friend and thought to myself… it’s just plain vanilla, why would I pay extra money to get such a basic flavor? — WOW I was wrong!
I ordered a small cup of vanilla ice-​cream with Butterfinger crush-​ins. They actually crush your toppings to bits and pieces and fold them into the ice-​cream so you get toppings in each bite! I got a chance to sample Mexican Vanilla but didn’t order it because I thought it would be too sweet with my Butterfingers. It tastes amazing nonetheless so I might save it for another day when my sweet tooth is on high gear.
Love that they open late!

Friendly staff, tasty ice cream, and a good place to chill. They have patio seating if it gets to crowded to sit inside. I tried the sweet cream (really good) but went for my usual coffee with pecans and strawberries. The heat was melting it faster than I could finish it, but it was still delicious. Pic attached.

This is an Austin icon that has several spots now, and one of them is in Houston, TX. They have a great selection of ice cream and tons of toppings to choose from. You can get your ice cream in a cup (tiny, small, or large) or in a cone. Sugar and regular are free, waffles are extra. There are several unique flavors to choose from, and a few flavor concoctions you can ask for. I always go for the sweet cream with Oreos. Never fails. Be prepared to wait, but it’s worth it if you like quality ice cream and a cool vibe. Amy’s has both. There are several tables to sit at, and a few booths as well. I love the booths by the wall. Several dozens of peoples have written their names or notes. Just another cool vibe. I also like that you can get your receipt texted to you.

I’ve been going to Amy’s for a long time, ever since I had it in Austin back in college. I always like their daily new flavors, especially the really unique ones, like the Black Sesame ice cream that I sampled. The ice cream is rich and creamy, and their homemade whipped cream is delicious on shakes. Give Amy’s a try, you won’t be disappointed.
P. S. — Sometimes there are also some alcohol infused ice cream selections ;)

Finally tried out Amy’s. This place always has a line wrapped around the inside. Lets see… I had chocolate peanut butter. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have got that flavor. I’m a die hard haagen daz chocolate peanut butter person. That being said, the ice was good. nice and creamy (still not my favorite) My sister had «smores» where they mixed some marshmallows into her dark chocolate. She said it was very very rich. Her fiancé had cookies and cream with extra oreos. I like the fact that they are local, but I’ll be honest and say that if I were to take someone out for icecream, I’d most likely take them to Fat Cat Creamery. The vibe there is just better.

I arrived here on a late Friday evening after dinner around 10 pm. The line was wrapped around the counter to the front door! Since I noticed how long the line was I was expecting this ice cream to be the best ever!
Well, we waited in line for a good 20 minutes the service was pretty slow because it was only two women working the ice cream station plus the cashier station. I understand it was a Friday night and it was busy, but both of the ladies did not crack a smile the entire time we were at Amy’s! Kinda sad because ice cream makes people feel happy and they should be smiling as well!
To the ice cream, they have many different selections including regular ice cream, ice cream with alcohol, smoothies, and malts/​shakes! I ended up getting the Mexican vanilla that was highly raved about.
It was honestly mediocre ice cream! It didn’t give me that feel good feeling when I was eating it & guilty pleasure feeling as well! I recommend this place only if you would like not really sweet or rich ice cream.

Amy’s ice cream is SO deliciously creamy. I am a huge fan just because the texture of their ice cream stands out above other ice cream shops. Also, they have a ton of flavors.
My first experience with Amy’s was at a friend’s wedding, where they had catered Amy’s ice cream. It was a huge hit. If you’re thinking about having an ice cream station (comes with servers so your guests don’t have to try and scoop their own ice cream and make a mess) at your wedding, I think Amy’s Ice Cream is a wonderful choice.
There is a parking lot, and it’s conveniently located really close to Highway 59. What’s not to like???

Excellent ice cream. ’nuff said.
But actually, their ice cream is so creamy and delicious that I don’t know how anyone could be disappointed. My favorite is their special called the Salty Dog – it’s Mexican vanilla ice cream with Heath bar and caramel sauce and sea salt.
Also, I got an Oreo ice cream cake from there once, and it was amazing.

This is my first time at the Houston location, I previously only been to the Austin one. The store itself is set up really similar to the one in Austin and it’s really cute with the cow decorations and bright colors.
So I’ve always ordered the same thing every time I go. The mexican vanilla with reese’s mixed in! I like how they do the mix-​ins and crush the reese’s into the ice cream so you get it with each bite.
The ice cream here is creamy and the mexican vanilla flavor just has something different compared to regular vanilla. I believe it’s the sugar they use to make it, and it tastes more… vanilla-​y? I’m not too sure, but it’s amazing and you should try it at least once!

I was in Houston and craving ice cream, so I gave this place a try! The service was very friendly and happy to allow me to sample since I’d never been there before. I opted for a scoop of Butterfingers and a Scoop of Oatmeal Raisin. The consistency of both was super creamy and satisfying. But I have to say that the Oatmeal Raisin had way too many raisins while the Butterfingers barely had any butterfingers bits.
This is a fine, cute little place. The only reason I gave a three is because it is just that, A-​OK. Definitely not bad. But I’ve had a lot of amazing ice creams and this just isn’t quite as amazing.

My friends absolutely love going here, and though I don’t enjoy coming as much as they do, I still like it. The inside has a very retro feel, and the people are always super nice.
It’s pretty much like every other ice cream store with various flavors, toppings, and customizations. Last time I came, I shared a sundae. From what I remember, you get 3 scoops of ice cream and 4 toppings. I forgot exactly what flavors, but I recommend the Mexican Vanilla. Everyone is crazy about it (though I’m not on that same boat). It is good though; a little thicker than regular vanilla. I’d recommend adding fudge on the sundae; it definitely is a good addition.
I think for ice cream shops, ambience is very important. There’s a lot of open seating, and it’s a great place to hang out with friends. It’s also open until midnight which is great considering Houston goes to bed at 9.

What’s not to love about ice cream with mix ins? I tried a few flavors and they were all good, but I decided to go with the pumpkin and mixed in gingersnaps. So good! It was super creamy and very pumpkiny. My friends also really enjoyed what they got, so it seems like all of the flavors are great. My only frustration was that there were no labels on the mix ins, so I had to guess at what I might want. I wish there had been a list to make the decision making a little easier.

As a former Austinite, Amy’s satisfies every sweet, creamy, and dreamy need.
I’m not sure how Houston’s Amy’s is, but they usually rotate flavors every week. So far, I have seen different flavors come and go.
This time around, I wasn’t really feeling for any particular flavor… So I opted for a root beer float. Sometimes you just don’t want something too heavy. The root beer offsets the heavy richness of the ice cream. They don’t skimp out in the root beer either! It’s not like you get half a can or root beer and one scoop of ice cream, they actually give you the rest of the root beer bottle. They also give you a hefty amount of ice cream too! Your choice in ice cream!
I chose Mexican vanilla rather than just regular vanilla. Probably will get regular vanilla next time. Something about that Mexican vanilla puts the whole thing off. Maybe because it’s already super sweet? I’m not sure. It wasn’t bad. But couldn’t been better. I’m just really glad they gave me a large amount of ice cream! It was well worth it!
To all Austinites out there! Feel lucky we have a Amy’s right here in this big town of Htown.

HOW COULD I HAVE LIVED SO CLOSE TO AMY’S ICE CREAM AND NEVER GONE INSIDE!!! After my first trip to Amy’s Ice Cream, I immediately regretted my past ignorance. From the times I’ve been here, the staff has always been friendly and patient with me sampling to decide my order. Additionally, they are open wayyyyy into the night, so if you have a late night sweet tooth, Amy’s Ice Cream is a terrific option.
In terms of ice cream, it was A-​M-​A-​Z-​I-​N-​G!!! Everything I’ve sampled has been very creamy but not overly sweet. From the limited amount of flavored I’ve tried, the Peter Pan mint chip is my favorite. Belgian chocolate is not too bad either. All in all if you’re in the area, whether day or night, definitely stop by Amy’s Ice Cream. You’re body might say no to the comfort food, but your soul will scream YESSSSSSS!
