If the criteria by which you judge a convenience store is that it is A) convenient and 2) a store, then Anthony’s meets them well, if merely literally. The place can be a bit hidden behind some trees if you’re coming from either direction on Sherwin — it’s only really if you’re looking straight at it that you can see its ramshackle edifice, shared with an adjoining laundromat, facing a small parking lot. Upon entry you’ll find a dimly lit shop with assorted canned and boxed products lining dusty shelves, a few auto parts, and of course water, beer, and soda in the fridge. The selection isn’t perhaps what it is at other quickie marts, but if you’re having a nearby football party as I was Saturday morning, and you run out of Coke or tallboys, then you can literally walk up to Anthony’s and replace these few modest provisions. But if the girls want Camel No. 9’s, or the guys are craving some Funyuns, you may have to head over to the Sunshine Food Mart on Cohn. Ultimately, I’m glad Anthony’s is there under exigent circumstances, but otherwise I’ll just give this place a miss.
