Austin Radio & Speedometer

This place is awesome. I took my bose speaker boxes and head unit from my nsx and had them rebuild them both. Work like magic now! Fast turnaround! Will recommend to anyone!

radio was dying in my AMG 55 & I was even told by one reputable shop given 4 stars here, that «the stereo in this car does this & is best replaced» for $ 1500 to $ 2500
did the job promptly at Austin & the system works better than it has in years
this is a family run service company & the folks characters for sure, but you have to admire them for having a great Steve McQueen poster in their waiting room & the seats are comfy… also lots of Maxim mags which I haven’t seen since my last haircut years ago

Just had my radio fixed by this shop. Very small shop. One guy owns it and maybe has a tech or two. Couple things…
1. He has terrible reviews online. My mechanic recommended him to me and I asked my mechanic about the reviews. My mechanic said «yeah — he knows his stuff, just doesn’t care [about reviews, customer service, etc].» This I can agree with.
2. The owner is rough around the edges. He comes off as gruff, to say the least. He mostly just doesn’t seem to have good communication skills. If you’re not used to dealing with someone like this, you will likely come away from your interactions with him with a negative reaction.
BUT
He knows his stuff! He found and fixed the two problems I had quickly. He called me several times with updates and didn’t do anything without permission. Even though his communication style is on the abrupt side, he did what I wanted him to — which is fix my radio.
There are few electronic repair shops left in this world and I didn’t have many options for my car. If I had found him on my own, I likely would not have gone to him due to all the negative reviews. I encourage you to at least talk to him before deciding whether to use him. Before too long, there will be no repair shops left and we’ll all have to buy replacement radios anytime something breaks. For me, that would have cost $ 2000 — $ 2500 vs. the $ 400 that I paid him.
