Camden Travis Street

Everything about this property is amazing (5 stars) ! I’Il write more on that in another thread. I wanted to take a moment and talk about the Internet speeds. (Shitty and expensive) Camden Travis uses Phonoscope Internet service. You pay for this service in your rent (it’s around $ 85). You get «basic cable» and 20 Mbps speed. You take the Internet speed and divide it by 7 devices and that leaves you SHIT to work with. The bandwidth used to be blazing fast until Phonoscope came out and did their «Phonoscppe fiber» presentation at which point everyone was capped to a crappy 20Mmps connection. When asking the office, they «know nothing» and Phonoscope says that they are in the process of «transitioning» and cant offer any plans or help. If you work from home, like to download large files, game or enjoy watching netflix, don’t live here! oh and you don’t have a choice! Camden adds it to your rent and you can’t use another provider.

I’ve lived at Camden Travis Street for about 15 months. While for the most part the experience has been a positive one, there is also room for improvement. Here’s is a list of pros and cons that I’ve found during my time here.
Pros:
1. Great location. Within walking distance to all midtown attractions. Restaurants, bars, shops, MetroRail, etc.
2. Really nice amenities and interiors
3. Great maintenance. They almost always come the day my roommate or I put in a request.
4. Nice staff. They remember you and really try to make an effort to make sure you are satisfied.
Cons:
1. The bark park. This probably affects me more because I live in a unit that borders it. However, I’m not sure why faux grass was ever thought to be a good idea. The area is cleaned often but if you go anywhere near it, the smell of dog urine and feces is overpowering.
2. The visitor parking area is TINY. Probably around 20 – 30 spaces. Too small for such a large complex.
3. Noise. This is going to be a con for just about any complex in midtown so If this is a deal breaker you might as well go somewhere else in Houston.
4. Price. This is why I am not renewing my lease. Our rent increase by nearly $ 400 which I don’t think is feasible for most renters.
Also, I know people complain about break-​ins. But seriously people, this is downtown Houston. Don’t leave things out in your car and lock your doors. This complex is not what I would call «easy to get into». I’ve never had an issue, nor have I known anyone personally who has. If they don’t have cameras like some people claim, then I think they definitely should. But this is still a large city and I don’t think the complex should take 100% of the blame in most cases.
Overall for me, the pros at this place outweigh most of the cons. If the rent had not increased so much, I would definitely be renewing and living here another year.

Had to dock a star from its rating bc they are taking away the amenity of receiving resident packages. Apparently it’s a Camden-​wide change and there’s really nothing you can do about it. That is definitely a a basic amenity any apartment complex offers and really does inconvenience residents to now have to visit the local FedEx, ups, or usps. We are considering not renewing the lease due to this change and will be looking for another home when time comes around for better options.

DISMCALIMER: all complaints are corporate based. The people in the office here are WONDERFUL, friendly and accommodating.
As far as camdens policies are concerned, They could not care any less about their tenants in terms of safety or convenience. Don’t be fooled by the promise of «trash valet» their trash valet is only for a brief window a few days a week and if place your trash in your bin before or after (which I sometimes do as habit when taking the bag out of the can) or have the audacity to put a box outside that is not broken down you are looking at a pricey fine. I have NEVER been so frustrated with a company in my life… and that includes FedEx and Phonoscope (the only internet and cable you can use).
Oh wait… can we talk about how my car was broken into? And how they didn’t even notice until they saw me cleaning it out and I called them over??? How is that even possible you ask? Oh because they don’t have cameras anywhere other than by the elevators. I get that things «happen» but it has happened to 4 different people in the complex, not including the 2 who had their cars stolen and 1 man who came out to find his car on cinderblocks with all of the tires stolen. There are about 3 cameras in the garage… That makes as much as sense as them asking me to pay $ 2400 for thin walls, constant 3AM pool parties, and a parking garage that constantly has lights hanging, shattered, or all out.
The other day I came home around 9:00pm to find that the side gate had been propped open the night after the break in to my car. The next day another car had been broken into and the gate was again left open.
Disappointed, keep looking.

I lived at Camden Travis for 15 months and it has been a rocky experience.
First off, the location is pretty swell. It’s just outside of downtown, so if you work in downtown the commute is a breeze. There are also various locations within walking distance that you can go to, which is a plus. However, be ready to deal with the weekend. They can be loud as the streets take on club goers and drunks.
The actual apartments seem highly priced for the square footage, compared to other complexes a bit further away. The interiors have high ceilings, wood floors, and granite counter tops. Each unit has a built-​in washer/​dryer, which is convenient.
The complex offer valet trash service, which you pay, but don’t think too highly of it. If your trash is not in a securely sealed bag it will not get picked up. If you leave anything outside the provided trash bin it will be there until you place it inside a Boy Scout knotted bag. Also, make sure to flatten all your boxes.
Management and staff are decent. They’re trained to have smiles and a clam voice in all situations, regardless of whether they were helpful. Their ability to fix problems can be sub par at best. For «luxury style» apartments, you would think keeping the renter happy would be their top priority. Remember to keep tabs on your air filter, as maintenance won’t replace it unless you ask them to.
If you’ve thought about what cable/​internet provider you want, throw that out the window as you’re stuck with Phonoscope. Without a choice in the matter, you’ll get some decent channels with terrible internet service. Their overpriced plans make me wonder if we really are in 2014. Other companies offer cheaper prices for faster plans than Phonoscope. Management informed me that there is nothing they can do about the terrible speeds except to pay more to «upgrade» to their 12Mbs down. (They have been announcing that they’re getting Fiber since late November, yet they still don’t offer it.)
Your neighbors are a fifty-​fifty chance. You have a combination of young adults who act like they’re still in college dorms, single adults, and families. Because of this there are quite a few douches that could care less about the property or others. Exterior doors are often left wide open for any random stranger to just walk into the complex. There is at least one unit break in and vehicle break in each month.
Trash, such as empty beer bottles or food containers, is often left in the hallways or stairs for days. In one occurrence, someone had the audacity to throw an empty beer bottle over the ledge from the parking garage into the dog run. Now I didn’t know the dog run also served as a trash collector. Some pet owners could care less about where their dogs poop, even though there are signs that say you must pick up after your dog, little is done.
The garage itself is a catastrophe. Residents love to speed down the ramp, drifting into the corners like they’re about to beat their best time. It also seems that parking is harder than rocket science. People will take up two spots for no other reason than to be a douche or park outside the lines. I don’t think management wants to deal with towing, even though there are countless tow trucks always readily available outside, as they have never towed a vehicle. Residents also enjoy parking in the «VISITOR ONLY» lot on the ground floor. I suggest they just take off the visitor only signs and allow residents to park in that area. You will also see vehicles entering through the exit gate, random vehicles that may or may not be residents follow behind someone who buzzed in or just wait for a car to open the gate. In my experience, security has been sub par. In the last 4 months of living there there have been 4 car break ins, one vehicle was stolen, and two had their tires taken and left on cinder blocks.
One final note, they just announced that as of August 1,2015 they will «NO LONGER be accepting packages at the Camden Travis Street office.» They’ve notified UPS, FedEx, and USPS. As they mentioned in their letter: «for your convenience, you’ll package retrieval locations along with their office hours closest to Camden Travis Street.» So unless you’re home, be prepared to drive to the base office of these delivery services.
TLDR: If you want to live just outside of downtown with high rates, terrible cable provider, douche neighbors, and lack of security, then Camden Travis is for you.
Their idea of «luxury apartments» must have low standards, since I was able to find an apartment that offers a bit more square footage than what I had at Camden for $ 300 less. The ability to choose my own internet provider, case work that wasn’t from ikea, and a real downtown view. Not to mention that security is much enforced, multiple cameras on every level of the garage, access key needed to enter at every level.

Update: Yesterday another vehicle had it’s wheels stolen. That is two cars in six months. Bottom line, your property is not safe in the camden travis street garage.
I am not a light sleeper, and I could not sleep the first week I was there. I had to get a noise cancelling window plug to block the sounds.
It can be extremely load at all hours of the night to 3 am and later. Even the double pane windows could not keep the noise from filtering in. I would hear loud discussions, drunks yelling at people, bass from the cars going by, etc. The only way I could sleep was by installing 3 inch sound proofing foam in my bedroom windows. I don’t have any natural light, but at least I can sleep. I have lived in the city for many years, I have never had this problem at other properties.
Also, there are beer cans left everywhere at every exit. And I am not sure about the security in the building because I saw a SUV on cinder blocks with all four wheels missing in the ‘secured’ parking garage.
They charge you for crappy tv service, regardless if you use ATT or their service.
Their nickel and dime you on the fees can get expense, and they are not very transparent about it on the website.
I have lived there for a few months. The people at the sales office are nice, but management is not flexible and will not work with you.
I recommend you check out other properties. I wouldn’t move back here if I knew, what I know now.

Camden on Travis apartment are the best. Extremely friendly staff, nice, new and calm environment in midtown. 2 yrs plus not moving anywhere. Happy resident

I have only been living here for only a couple of months now but the experience so far has been great. Great location and a wonderful apartment staff that are always attentive to your needs. Sending emails out to keep residents informed of upcoming events and etc. is one of the things I like the best at this point.

Great place to live, GREAT location. Literally can walk to any and everything you need. The staff is always there for you and maintenance addresses your issues within a day if not the same day as order was sent out.

I’ve been at Travis Street 15 months and I have absolutely loved it. I was concerned about the noise being loud living next to so many bars with loud music etc but I really haven’t had any issues. I’m on the first floor so sometimes I can hear people walking by, but that is a very minor disturbance. The staff is AMAZING and they have lots of resident events, brunches, pub crawls, etc so very friendly and fun! I highly recommend living here if you’re looking at the midtown area. It’s safe, warm and friendly!

I been wanting to leave a review on this complex for a long time and I’m finally doing it. I lived here for 15 months and what can I say. The location was perfect, the pool was nice, the apartment was pretty good, parking was never a big issue but only thing that I hated was the management. This is the reason why…
One night my car was broken into around the neighborhood (not at this complex)
Everything was stolen including my wallet and apartment keys. Since this was around 3am I had to call the emergency maintenance to come out and open my apartment. I waited for at least one hour and he didn’t show up till maybe 2 hours later, by that time I was already gone and I had to spend the night somewhere else. By the next morning I had a friend take me to the leasing office and get a new set of keys. When I got there I told them straight up what happened and the manager (hispanic lady) came out and sat down with me. She started looking at my ledger and she told me I had a balance of 75 dollars or so for a wall I wanted painted. She also told me she was going to charge me for a new set of keys, new remote, change my locks, and the fobs. She wanted payment right away in order for me to get into my apartment. I tried telling her to charge everything to my account and I will pay it with my rent but she said no. She wanted payment right away and it was impossible for me to pay at that moment since my wallet was gone. I couldn’t go to the bank because it was a sunday and the back was not going to give me money without my ID. I felt like she didn’t care about my situation. I had a police report and all but she was more concerned about her money than the resident. At the end my friend had to pay for me and after all that they finally went ahead and gave me a new set of keys. After all of this I decided to not renew and move out. I was ready to get out of there and never live with Camden again. I’m not sure if this manager still there but she was the worst person to deal with.
Anthony was a great person to deal with but thats all. Would I go back to this complex? No thank you!!!
So for the future residents good luck with management. They will get your money first and after they might care for you.

Love, love, love. I moved out of state and signed my lease before actually seeing or walking the property in October 2013. I was so very happy when I arrived. The staff is amazing and I love the idea of being able to walk to everything, or take a quick cab if needed. Nothing beats the amenities, and I love soaking up rays by the pool!

So I have now lived here for 15 months. We would have liked to stay, but our rent was being increased by $ 350 and we thought that was a little outrageous for our place. But I guess some people are willing to pay that to live in midtown. Overall we enjoyed living here. The location is great. Walking distance to anywhere in midtown. The staff here is very friendly. The only things that have bothered us is the location of our unit. They have started construction across the street, so it’s an ugly view and has been quite noisy. There is also a lot of street noise at night (drunk people) but that is a given in midtown. There are bars everywhere. We are also located by the dog park, which has a horrible pee smell all the time. So when walking from the garage to our apartment, it reeks of pee. Between the construction and the pee smell, we definitely did not think the price of the apartment was worth it. There are too many specials in Houston right now for brand new apartments for us to pay nearly $ 2400 for a 2 bedroom. We’ve decided to move to upper kirby for a better price but we have enjoyed our stay here.

Coming from Boston, this was a great place. Everything is fully updated. They’re not weird about move-​out — we had scratches in the floor and small holes in the wall and we didn’t owe a dime. The staff will fix anything that goes wrong with your apartment within 24 hours — they replaced some lights even.
It’s really quite nice!
Only thing I’d say is that Kristen Arevalo is the best staff member. A few of the others used to be good, but they left and there are a few weaker front desk employees now.

This is a good property wedged into a noisy part of town. The majority of my stay there was good as far as the amenities and my actual apartment. Below is my breakdown of the good, bad and get me outta here observations:
Good
–the parties thrown by the apartment were really fun. They supplied everything from full meals to drinks to a dj
–the fitness center had brand new equipment and was well maintained, it was a great alternative to walking down the street to 24 hour fitness
–the actual apartments had nice, new appliances, hardwood floors and high ceilings. I lived in a studio and had plenty of room.
Bad
–The rent cost rose quicker than the temperature during a Houston summer. Combined with the mandatory valet trash (which is an extra charge) and mandatory cable, you’re in for some major cash.
–The staff were very nice but hard to get a hold of. Sometimes, they wouldn’t show up till 1 or 2 on Sunday.
Get Me Outta Here!
–this place is wedged between a bunch of clubs in midtown. Unless you’re facing away from the street and on the 4^th floor, it’s going to get noisy. For a while, there was a club across the street called Escobar-​which knew no boundaries on the bass. I’ll leave it to the imagination as far as being able to sleep with that around.
–hardwood floors are nice and classy. They also amplify the footsteps of someone above you. This is an issue since the builders cut some corners on the initial construction, as in the ceiling/​floor is tissue paper thin.
This place has some great amenities. If you’re a light sleeper, it’s probably not your dream apartment.

This place is terrible. Horribly thought out concept with no AC in the hallways. Sweating like a pig everytime I walk to my girlfriend’s place. I consider myself lucky if I don’t step in any dog excrement on the way.
Managment has that snippy attitude that you’d expect from a million dollar condo team, not some college kid apartments in Midtown.
Much better places in Midown to live!
