Darque Tan

This Darque Tan location is very nice and all the staff have been helpful and very professional. I have never experienced a problem with parking or had to wait at this location
The beds here have always been very clean. I have been to a few other locations where I could feel lotion on my back while in the bed, which I hadn’t put there as I don’t like to tan with lotions. But, a perk with Darque Tan is that you can use your membership/​balance at any location, that’s convenient!
Their pricing is competitive in Houston. I moved from Abilene, TX where tanning in the same types of beds was MUCH cheaper, but I guess that must just be a small town luxury.

First off WHAT A TERRIBLE BUSINESS! DON’T SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE. I was in Texas for some time, and wanted to get a little color before heading back to Europe. I inquired about buying a membership to use in cities I was visiting. I only bought it because the girl told me they had locations in Dallas (Where I was spending most my time) I bought the membership. Come to find out they have NO locations in Dallas, and my membership was worthless. I inquired to corporate, and they put my email in their spam box, and ignored me. I went to the Better Business Bureau and they did nothing. They are EXTREMELY RUDE. I am making a chargeback to get my payment back now. Don’t go to Darque Tan. Their employees are incompetent, and so is the corporate employees who back them up.

I rate this location a one solely based on the front desk employee. I didn’t catch this name but he is the one with glasses.
I purchased a Groupon for one week of tanning any level 1 – 5 for $ 20.00.
When I walked in, there were about 4 others in the lobby. Two were waiting on a bed, one was waiting for a spray tan and then another lady was trying to decide what membership she wanted to buy and the guy was very nice to her. When I told him that I had a Groupon his whole demeanor changed and he started getting short with me. He told me that I had to go into a level one bed and was maxed at 6 minutes (no where does it say that on the voucher and I am already olive skinned and tan easy) no questions asked. So then I told him I wanted to get a sample lotion. He opened up the cabinet and pulled one of the 6 different kinds I saw in the cabinet and handed it to me without asking what kind I wanted. I asked him if I could see what the other kinds where and his response was «this is the cheapest one we have». Automatically I got defensive because 1) I felt like he was judging me and calling me cheap and 2) how did he know that there wasn’t a specific kind I was looking for? This guy is a jerk, no doubt. So I just thought, instead of causing a scene that I would just tan and leave. Those 6 minutes went quick and I did not get any color.
I went back the next day to tan. Same guy was at the front desk. He gave me this look «like oh you again». So I just gave him my name and asked to move up to level 2 and for a minimum of 10 minutes. He argued and said I needed to go 8. I told him I wanted 10 and that I would get out if I got too hot. He agreed. So I tanned my 10 minutes and left. On the drive home I realized I had left my wedding rings and immediately turned around. When I walked in I asked the guy for my rings and he said «it’s in this envelope» which I then took from him and thanked him. He then said «It will be $ 10 or I can call your husband and tell him you left them». Not sure if he was serious or his sense of humor is that dry but after everything I had been through with this guy I did not find it funny.
I will not be continuing the rest of my week at darque tan. In fact, I will never go back. Customer service goes a long way and this location doesn’t know how to hire employees that know what that is or means.

$ 488 for a YEAR of unlimited tanning in all levels = approximately $ 40 a month.

I was paying $ 80.

What can you say about Darque Tan? Sometimes they have cute girls working there and their lotions are really over priced :-).
All jokes aside…
Pros. this place is typically kept up well. There’s normally never a wait and the staff is normally very friendly. And I also enjoy the fact that they don’t try and give you the pressure pitch on product and services as some salons do.
Cons.What the hell is that smell? Is that burning flesh? I mean can someone grab some Febreze! It always has some faint odor masked by something covering it up. One day I was there back in June (HOT), the A/​C was out and a sewage pipe busted, it smell like #$!*! That’s not the first time the A/​C has went out there either.
Conclusion. for the quick tanner this place works. If you’re the person who sits on the level one bed for 20 mins when their A/​C is out, God help you. If you’re like me in and out in 15 mins or less, you would be good here.

The Mystic booths at THIS LOCATION are absolutely horrid. If you are a frequent Mystic tanner then you’ll understand the following lingo…
They have 2 regular, non Versa, Mystic booths. This review is regarding those, not the Versa. Room 10 has NEVER consistently worked… and I’ve been frequenting this location for 3+ years. Room 10 is so inconsistent in it’s spraying (i.e. all the nozzles spraying correctly, spraying enough sprays, spraying out enough solution) that I began refusing to even use that room about a year or so ago. I will wait for the other room. Only when I am in an absolute bind for time will I use room 10 and about 75% of the time I leave it thoroughly annoyed at the results.
Room 11 used to be reliable. Lately (starting about 2 mos ago), I have been ignoring this location altogether though because it became annoying too. I frequent 3 other locations in SW Houston and can say that this is assuredly not the case everywhere, but in Room 11 at the Galleria, the Mystic with bronzer solution got SO runny that it was horrible to use. I know it kind of sounds great, that you are getting a lot of tan in a single use, but it was so runny that there was absolutely no way to get toweled off before it was running down your legs making all kinds of ugly streaks. Even for a Mystic pro like myself, I found myself being completely unable to get any sort of pat down going before it was run all over my calves and the bottom of my feet creating ugly stains. The bronzer solution at other locations does not do this and I am really unclear about what the problem at the Galleria location is. Secondly, in Room 11, the clear solution (which I started trying after the problems with the bronzer solution) does not come out of the nozzles evenly. Some nozzles work (usually the far right one) from the jump, while others (usually the left and middle ones) take about three or four sprays of just air before any solution starts to fizzle out. I am not sure what the difference between the bronzer (too much coming out) and the clear (not nearly enough) is but trust me… it is the case. As any Mystic-​er knows, if the nozzles aren’t spraying evenly, clearly your body is not going to get an even tan.
So, alas, I have completely abandoned this location. It is not worth the trouble of getting there and undressed and in the booth only to have a subpar tan. Go to another location.
