This was the best place ever — great desserts, friendly, comfortable. I heard that they closed recently! What a loss to the community. Does anyone know what happened?

Chocolate lovers, unite! If you want over the top, rich, baked desserts, then this is the place. This is not«how mom used to make». The desserts have that professional feel. The cookies do have a welcome hint of home-cooking, and the chocolate chip is excellent. They have an assortment of items that are truly decadent. Their selection consists primarily of cakes, cupcakes, muffins, and cookies. The cakes are beautifully intense in flavor and richness. The cupcakes are of many assorted flavors, including a German Chocolate cupcake. I haven’t had the muffins, but they had a good selection of flavors. The brownie was dense enough to be used as ballast in ocean-going vessels. But it was rich and moist. Unusually, they are rather thin, with an equal thickness of frosting on it. It’s not normally what I go for in a brownie, but I couldn’t stop eating that chocolate goodness. For lighter fare, they have chocolate-dipped strawberries. I was going to try one the last time I was in there, but at the time they only had«white chocolate»…come on, there’s no such thing. It’s an oxymoron. Army intelligence. Safe sex. White chocolate. Please. CHOCOLATEHASTOHAVECOCOAINITPEOPLE. Sorry. /rant off Anyway, an amazing place. Whether you like your chocolate dark or white. And they do have a lot of choices that aren’t chocolate.

I have been looking for a place that makes real icing/frosting and this place was has it. I haven’t tried all the cakes yet but the cake that I ordered for my Mother’s 75th birthday was delicious. Chocolate ganache and cream cheese frosting for the filing. The cake was moist and had a delicate crumb. Haven’t tried anything else yet but I will certainly go back.

How can you not love the Heights? Living here, nearly everything you want is in walking distance… so, the opening of the Dessert Shoppe was something I really looked forward to, as it closed one of the few remaining gaps in Heights Living. I dropped in to pick up a slice of cake for a favorite co-worker on her birthday and decided to snag a slice of carrot cake for myself. In my eyes, carrot cake is probably the hardest of the dessert cakes to do brilliantly… it’s easy to do ok, hard to do great. Dessert Shoppe… did ok. A dense cake with uninspired frosting. Nothing to write home about, certainly nothing as good as what’s available at the Dessert Gallery. Yet the chocolate birthday cake? That went over great. The birthday girl described it as «easily the best cake [she’d] ever eaten». So, it seems the place is hit or miss in its line-up… but the desserts are still better than what you might pick up at Krogers or HEB or something, so if you live in the Heights, why not give a local business a shot?

I came here for one specific reason/thing: The Double Decker Cookie Sandwich!!! :-D I heart cookie sandwiches, so I was terribly upset when I didn’t see any. However the nice lady at the counter checked with someone in back and I was told that I could have them in about 5 minutes!!! These cookie sandwiches are THEBOMB!!! The cookie AND the icing are phenomenal. I also purchased a Cannoli(meh, not so great), a white Cupcake(Delish) and a Caramel Chocolate Cupcake(o.k.-not great), a Fruit Tart(meh) and a White Chocolate Blueberry Cluster(YUM). Overall, I am very happy(my pants are not) with my purchases– esp. the cookies filled with icing!!!

My husband and I make a weekly ritual of stopping by this bakery each weekend. We are devotees of their cakes and muffins, which are exquisitely moist and flavorful. They not only sell cupcakes and whole layer cakes, but thick slices of frosted cake«loaves»(Italian cream, chocolate velvet, white/dark chocolate combo, and more). The large berry muffins(blue, cran/pistacio, cran/blue combo) are full of juicy berries – no skimping! My husband likes the chocolate chip muffins – I figure if there’s chocolate involved, it’s more like a cupcake, but who am I to judge? They also bake some good-looking baguettes and a round cranberry yeast bread that we haven’t yet tried, but probably will. I’m not a fan of their scones(I’m a scone snob), but apparently other folks are because they keep making/selling them. The sisters who run this place are great and expect to see us shortly before they close at 8:00PM every Friday or Saturday.

You can’t go wrong with sweets and the Dessert Shoppe has a plethora of them. What’s even better is that they are right next to Collina’s. I went in looking for chocolate truffles and I found a tray of them. They also have the traditional treats: cookies, cupcakes, cakes, pastries, etc… The two ladies behind the counter were very friendly and hospitable. Back to the truffles. I bit into one of them and was surprised. Not a bad surprise; however, I was looking for a truffle that had a nice creamy ganache inside of it. This truffle had a center that was almost brownie-like. Nothing wrong with it, I just want to give everyone a heads up.

Brand new little place in the Heights — you can get cake by the slice — and it’s good. Several kinds of chocolate dipped strawberries — yum! Lots of cupcakes — not my thing but lots of kid appeal. They also have regular bread — I bought a loaf of cranberry bread(a yeast bread, not a quick bread) that was warm from the oven. We devoured half of it by bedtime. Delicious. I can’t wait to try the Bagettes. They serve coffee & ice tea and have free wi-fi. They also cater. Fingers crossed they do well, the Heights needs a good bakery.
