From the other reviews on Unilocal,it sounds like everyone is having great experiences. Unfortunately, I went to Expressions THREE times and they were closed each time. One time was indeed my fault — I went on a Saturday without calling first. Their narrow open hours are M-F 10:00 — 5:00. But, I was assured they’d be open on Monday. I drove there(totally off my beaten path) and they were closed. Again. And, I went mid-day, in the middle of their store hourse. I called the store from my car in the parking lot. The owner apologized and told me she’d be open the next day(Tuesday). I couldn’t go the next day, but went on Wednesday. They were closed. Again. In the middle of the day. IF their chocolate is great, I’ll never know. I’m tired of wasting my time going only to find them always closed. That is no way to run a business.

I’ve been here a few times in the past year, and I’ve never left disappointed. If you catch Valerie(I believe the owner) at the store, she will shower you with samples. She’s extremely friendly, and has gone out of her way to make me feel welcome there, showing me around everywhere — even in the back! It’s crazy back there, with so much chocolate, sweets, fudge everywhere! The chocolate is pricey, but it’s good. Way better than The Chocolate Bar and Kegg’s Candies which both serve a whole ton of chocolate at similar prices, but are of lower quality(like a notch above Hershey’s). You’ll see when you try Expressions’ chocolate. It is simply much more artisanal(and I mean this is in a good, non-snobby kind of way), and the trend is less overwhelmingly sweet, but more subtly flavored and textured. They also have excellent gift wrap options. Care is taken to select the appropriate boxes(they have so many), bags, and tissue paper. Alright! The goods… my top faves are: — The pistachio truffle — I love pistachio flavored things, whether it is gelato, pudding, or pistachio nuts themselves. This has pistachio cream in it which is simply to die for. — Bourbon sugar pecans — probably the most economical treat(last I purchased was $ 8 for a half-lb, I believe, but it’s been a few months). I’ve purchased these for myself, and for friends and family. Delicious, crispy, buttery, and smells like heaven when you open the bag. — Almond pecan florentines — oh god. There’s honey, there’s chocolate, and there’s almonds and pecans. Quite an experience in a bite. I was floored upon my free sample and immediately wanted more. I again, want to emphasize how great the service is. I had a coupon from Houston Entrée and Valerie treated me like royalty. This is the chocolate shop I return to again and again.

Amazing handmade chocolates! I cant count the number of times I’ve driven past this place in the last year or so and kept saying to myself, I need to try that place. Well, I finally stopped in last week and was blown away by the quality and taste. The shop itself is small and the so is the selection, but don’t let that fool you, everything we tried was amazing. Inside the shop there are huge windows let you see the impressively large kitchen, the ratio of kitchen space to chocolate on display seemed very off to me. However, it made sense when I learned that EFC does most of it’s business online and after trying a few items I can see why people from all over order here. I tried the almond pecan florentines based on John V’s recommendation and was happy I did. The crisp of the almond and pecan praline type sugar mixed with the contrast of dark chocolate was exceptional. 9⁄10 The raspberry truffle was very smooth and the classic paring of chocolate and raspberry is one of my favorites. We really enjoy a coco dusted truffle so this was an added bonus for us. 8⁄10 The Almond truffle had a very subtle almond flavor and a good texture. Almond is one of my favorite flavors and I was very pleased with the flavor not being too overpowering or weak to stand up with the chocolate. 8⁄10 Our overall favorite was the dark chocolate chili bark. I’m not sure I’ve ever had such an amazing balance of spicy and sweet. The texture of the nuts and chocolate matched with the spicy chili undertones was fantastic. I’ll never leave EFC without buying some of their chili bark. 10⁄10 EFCISOUTOFTHISWORLDGOOD!

I was on a chocolate truffle kick and couldn’t find anything that was worth Unilocaling about until a co-worker introduced me to Expressions. There isn’t a large variety of flavors, but that’s because they perfected the handful that they already have. Also, they don’t overcharge you like other places do inside the loop. A must try are the Almond Pecan Florentines. Trust me.
