Fayes Grooming & Boarding

We have been using Faye’s for seven years. We moved several years ago and now have to drive 35 minutes each way but definitely worth it. They do a GREAT job and have NEVER nicked my little dog Daisy and she always comes out looking like a million bucks! They book up early though so make sure and call several days ahead for an appointment. The staff (especially Dee) is wonderful and kind. We have always tipped our groomer as they provide a service that dictates you should, but was shocked to find out that many people don’t? Fayes is definitely five-​star — trust me you won’t be disappointed!

I give this place 4 stars and here is why. Let me preface my review by telling you I have extensive experience in the animal care industry. My mother was a professional dog obedience trainer. She was an AKC approved judge for all obedience classes. She wrote regular columns for some of the major dog publications. You may be familiar with the more mainstream ones like Dog World and Dog Fancy. Occasionally I co-​authored articles with her. After I retired from the Army I spent 12 years managing Veterinary Hospitals and Dog and Cat Boarding facilities. I worked for large «brand» corporations; names you would easily recognize if I posted them here but this isn’t about them and I’m not about to give them free advertising while I’m writing about a small, Mom & Pop organization. Let’s hear it for small and successful business owners.
We had driven by this place many times because it’s right near my favorite restaurant. They always seemed to be busy but we were hungry and food was foremost on our minds. Yesterday my wife made it our mission to go in to talk to them.
The young gal we spoke with in the afternoon knew the price for nail trims and not much else. She explained she had only been there for two months and still had a lot to learn. She was kind and helpful in spite of her lack of knowledge so we decided to return today with Manor.
Manor is our «test dog». If you can cut her nails you can cut all our dogs’ nails. Manor will «scream» for no reason the first time you try to cut her nails. Once you start loving on her she is all yours. The groomer quickly figured this out and Manor behaved like the perfect old girl she is. Did I mention she’s 12, maybe 13 years old? I rescued her years ago so I’ve never been sure of here exact age.
The groomer asked if she could shave Manor’s pads. That made it easier for her to see the nails. I gave my permission expecting to pay extra for it. It’s been a while since we groomed Manor so her feet were a bit overgrown. How could I say no? In the end, there was no extra charge.
This shop does full service grooming though my wife, a school trained groomer, prefers to do all the grooming herself. I used to do all the nails but my knees are so bad that it’s difficult for me to get down on the ground with them now. We also don’t own a dremmel.
They also offer boarding services. Not sure I would use that service. They close each night at 6 and the kennels are completely indoors and rather small. The shop is located inside a strip mall and there isn’t much grass to take the dogs out for exercising.
Overall I’m very happy with our experience today. For a mere 5 bucks my little Manor got the star treatment at Faye’s. We met Kathy and Dee who were both friendly and knowledgable. Dee owns the shop. They work 6 days a week. Walk-​ins for nails are welcome but before 3:00 please. Reservations are best (meaning required) for all other services.
If you are anywhere near Willowbrook Mall and you are looking for a new groomer this is the shop you want. So why four stars? They were selling puppies. A practice I don’t agree with. Other than that, they are 4-​star perfect!
