This place is pretty meh. They did accommodate me without an appointment, but weren’t very friendly and didn’t seem like they cared about my business. He did a good job on my tat except for the fact that it’s crooked! Overall it’s clean and not a terrible place, but I’ve had much better experiences at Scorpion Studios and other shops.

An update on my laser tattoo removal– went in for an appointment at Tatt2 Removers by Reliant Stadium and found out that the pink and orange ink in my skin is actually UV ink!!! I NEVEREVER once asked for UV ink to be injected into my skin, so I don’t know why Chris Malice wouldn’t tattoo me with it without my permission. Seems EXTREMELY unprofessional if you ask me!!! But basically UV is impossible to remove with tattoo lasers… so now I have to get it removed with dermabrasion sanders out of my skin. Awesome! Thanks for ruining my skin!!!

I am giving this one star simply because of the terrible experience I have had with this place. On February 27 I booked an appointment with Danii for April 7th. The day of he is not there. I do not see this shop being open much longer due to lack of professionalism.

After tracking down Christina Sparrow, formerly at Sacred Heart, I tried dozens of times to call, no one ever answers the phone. I finally get an answer, its Christina! She tells me to give my #, she’ll call me back and gives me her cell and says that’s the best way to get a hold of her. It STILL took another 2 wks to get a response. But yet I change my schedule to accommodate her. Then show up on said date and time. Gallery is closed, locked, lights off. WTH!?? I call and text, some lame excuse hours later. So unprofessional. I’m out.

I got tattood at Gaslight Gallery in January 2013 by Hector. He was very easy to talk to you and very quick and precise in his work. While getting tattood, another tattoo artist came in and chatted with me and my friends, so the overall vibe was very comfortable and friendly. She even offered me some candy and water when I felt a little faint(hadn’t eaten all day… mistake! lol). I will definitely go there again. This was my 2nd tattoo and I plan to get a few more. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that nothing is perfect in this world. :o)

Alex gave my friend a crap sketch; nothing like she wanted. She wanted a gnarled stringy look and he drew up a cartoony thing that probably took him twenty minutes to sketch up. Only cool if you are friends with the artist and catch them on a good day, IMO.

Had an appointment today with one of the artists(ill be civil enough not to include his name) at 3pm. For a little background, I had made the appointment about a week and a half prior, specifically for today, because it is one of my very rare days completely off. The tattoo was expected to take 3.5 to 4.5 hrs, so I scheduled other things that needed to be done that day around that basic time frame. I got there about 15 min early and sat down, 45 min after my scheduled appointment, I asked one of the other artists if they had heard he wasn’t coming in or was going to be late, etc. I was told that he had just sent a text, to let me know that he wasn’t going to be able to make it; no reason, no explanation, just that he would not make it. I contacted him, and he said we would just need to reschedule,(forget the fact that I had already paid $ 40 to reserve the time slot) but that he didn’t work on Monday or Wednesday. I let him know that tom.(a wednesday) would be the only other day that I could come in, for the next month. He said, o well, keep in touch, let me know when you get another time to be able to come in. I am royally angry, there were a number of things he could have done or said to rectify the issue, he could have let one of the other artist know earlier, and have them inform me whenever I showed up. He could have at least attempted to adjust his schedule and find a time to come in Wednesday(as I had adjusted my schedule for him). Hell he could have just apologized, offered to refund the $ 40, and said whenever you find another day, come reserve the spot again(though waiving the $ 40 at that point would have been more appropriate). Instead I basically was told, oh well sorry, too bad for you. I have already chosen another artist, he will not receive my business, and I plan to go back to get the $ 40.

FYI — Kat Adlerz is in her own studio(Workhorse Tattoo Company) now. There are some other really great artists in this building, but since I’ve never been tattooed by them, I can’t speak to that experience.

Being an out-of-towner I would ask people in passing where they got their tats. Um, I think it’s weird that most of Houston’s reputable tattoo shops are on the same strip. Lol. So weird! Anyway, I hoped on Unilocal and did some research. Then walked down this strip with my girls and based out of my research of clean places that do good work Gaslight was in my top 3 choices but, was the youngest on the block. I’m not gonna lie, I was sold when I walked by and saw two different artists working and they were both chic’s. Peter did mine. I’d trust him to do another one. But I’d recommend him only if you’ve been tatted already. He didn’t give me any care information or had me sign anything, which is usually a formality. I didn’t mind but my girl who was getting tatted for the first time was a little skidish b/c of this, which is understandable cause the shit is permanent. My tattoo looks great and it was a great experience. I loved that it was a house everyone was super cool and laid back. We went back the next night and two of my other girls got tatted.

4 out of 5 stars only because I’ve been there once, but I’m most definitely a fan! I’m going to keep this short and simple because there’s so many places you can get a tattoo done, the hard part is finding the right artist. I highly recommend you stop by and consult with Christina Sparrow. She is amazing at what she does. I have a couple of tattoos but my most recent and largest one, was done by her. It looks exactly how I pictured it. She does freehand and every tattoo I’ve seen her do(my friend has 3 done by her) looks really well drawn and produced. I’ll post up a picture of what she did for me. Not sure if this is common with other tattoo shops(the other place I got mine surely did not do this.) but she sprayed a type of numbing serum on me. Eased the pain A LOT. Everything healed perfectly fine and I’m so happy with how it came out! If you’re interested in getting a tattoo, you should know that the price ranges depending on what you want and how big you want it. There is a studio fee here, I believe its $ 60(as are most other tattoo shops).

Not just a «tattoo shop»! The atmosphere here is much classier and professional. The shop is also an art gallery, hence the name! I have followed, co-owner, Christina Sparrow from shop to shop and finally she has an awesome place of her own!

This shop brings together a perfect combination of a sterile environment for piercings/tattoos along with a friendly and welcoming«feel». All of the artists here bring a fresh flavor as unique as they are. My artist was Alex Cetina(sp?). I talked to him about my idea & interest. When I went back for my appointment, he literally drew the design on me with sharpies, and then went to work. I was nervous, as this was my first tattoo. However the ENTIRE experience was great. I even fell asleep while he was working [I got tattooed on my ribcage/side]. :-) The combination of talented artists and a chill environment make Gaslight Gallery the première choice for your tattoo or piercing! You will walk outta there happy! :-)

My tattoo journey started about 8 years ago when I got my first tattoo — a butterfly. Now, I know what you’re thinking… how original is that??? Well during that time it was highly significant of the things that were going on in my life, but I also had hopes of someday expanding on that butterfly and eventually completing an entire back piece. This review is about the beginning of that expansion. Sometime end of last year I was out and about with some fellow Unilocalers when I noticed our very own Danielle S. sporting some mighty fine and colorful ink. I played 21 questions and she gave me the name of her artist, who soon became my artist also — Kat Adlerz. Being that this is Houston, and there are tattoo shops everywhere I could have just walked into any one of my choice and had my piece done, but that’s not what I wanted. I wanted an artist with the ability to interpret my idea with the color and vibrancy that it had in my head. A couple weeks later I stopped into Gaslight Gallery and met Kat myself. After looking through her portfolio I was sold! She had some amazing pieces with outstanding color and line work. After explaining to her what I was looking for and giving her some reference photos, she took my sketch deposit and said she’d be in touch. About a week later I came back in to look at my sketch and was blown away. Not only did she get all the elements I wanted, but she somehow interpreted my words into the vision that was in my head! We immediately started on my back piece and even though it was a long process, it has been completely worth it. It’s strange to say, but at each sitting the pain from the needle was somewhat therapeutic. I’ve been through some things in life and each session gave me time to reflect on the meaning of the tattoo, and the trials and tribulations that had brought me to this point. At the end of our last session this past weekend, it almost felt like all those years of feeling hurt or disappointed by circumstances in my past where gone. The last six months during the process of completing this tattoo were really more than just body art — it marked the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. Now, I cannot credit Kat for my own personal discovery but her artwork marks a time in my life that is truly special and the piece reflects that. I know this is becoming more of a journal entry than a review, but tattoos are a part of who you are. When you can find artists like those at Gaslight you are getting talented people who respect you and your ideas. Over the last six months of visiting the shop about every 3 – 4 weeks I have seen some amazing work completed. No matter what style of tattoo you want or the complexity of the piece, they have someone that can do it. This is not your run of the mill(i.e. pick a butterfly off the wall) kinda tattoo shop. It’s custom work, awesome artists and an art gallery too! I still have one last session for some finishing touches, but I couldn’t wait any longer to write my review. So, if you’re looking to get some ink, want to touch up some old pieces, or start on a new journey like I did give Gaslight Gallery a try… you won’t be disappointed.
