Food is OK, nothing spectacular but decent. But service is pathetic: slow and inattentive. Waiter was more interest in chatting and flirting with host than providing service. Not going back there again.

Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this overpriced disgrace of a restaurant. Not only is their food bland, they are extremely rude to their customers.

Writing this as I sit here. It’s a cute concept and I love the fact that it’s local, sustainable, and kosher… But I just ordered the worst steak I’ve ever had. It was reminiscent of something they’d serve at a hospital cafeteria. This place will have to step up its game, or get more gimmicky, lest it go out of business.

***Review is for happy hour! We came here for an event. I’ve heard much about this restaurant, as it is the first kosher steak house hat I know of in Houston. I didn’t know what to expect what so ever. It is located across from The Bellaire Triangle on the edge of Bellaire in a new strip center. The interior was just gorgeous! There is a beautiful, colorful wall located in the back which would be be great for photo ops! I found it interesting that another Houston restaurant(Peli Peli) has the SAMEEXACT wall at! But let it be noted that Genesis opened long before Peli Peli… interesting. There is a separate event room if you would like to hold an event. Anyway, I didn’t expect it to be so beautiful! Great to take a date! There is a bar area and separate dining areas. We sat at the bar. I had a very nice glass of sauvignon blanc. They have several drinks listed at happy hour prices. We ordered a stack of onion rings and short rib tacos. Both on the happy hour menu. The onion rings were delicious. The short ribs not so much! I don’t recommend ordering! Extremely, extremely dry with zero flavor! It did come with a side of guacamole which was good. Bartender was very nice and food was brought out quickly. No complaints on service. Just don’t get the short rib tacos ;)

Houston is lucky to have this restaurant which provides a consistently great experience in regards to food, ambiance, and service. I have frequented Genesis quite a few times and every time have nothing but great words to say. When you walk in, the dropped Edison style lights provide a unique lighting that instantly sets the tone for the experience. The tree in the center of the restaurant is something that I have never seen in another restaurant and definitely sets it apart. Sometimes it is decorated, and it is always fun to see«the seasons change.» Either for happy hour, a quick bite, or a nice dinner, Genesis is perfect for the occasion. I brought one of my friends in that was visiting from out of town and we had the Beef Carpaccio and the Smoked Short Rib Tacos. Both dishes were nicely portioned and absolutely delicious. I am quite picky in regards to Beef Carpaccio and the coloring on the meat was perfect. The tacos were a quick favorite for my friend and I as well. I also tried the Sangria, which had a nice pairing of wine and different fruits. On another occasion I came in for a nice dinner with good friends. We were celebrating their engagement, enjoying wine, appetizers, and entrees. Some of the items ordered were the Salmon Cake, Spinach Artichoke Dip, Free Range Cornish Hen, and Chilean Sea Bass. Words do not do the food justice, but if I had to try, I would say that all the dishes had a wonderful balance and incredible finish, leaving myself, along with my friends hungry for more, but stuffed to the max. The portions on the entrees on generous and we all enjoyed our leftovers later that week. I have also had the pleasure of enjoying the smoked ribs and a few desserts. The ribs, dear goodness, they are incredible. They are juicy, have some incredible flavor, and are huge. The desserts that I have tried, although I cannot remember them off the top of my head, were delicious. Finally, some of the times that I have visited there has been live music. It was thoroughly enjoyable and at a nice volume to where it was not overpowering, but you could hear it in the background. Nice touch! I would highly recommend Genesis Steakhouse and Wine Bar to anyone and everyone. Definitely a must try for anyone in the Houston area — you will not be disappointed.

My better half and I were excited to try Genesis for the first time as the photos on Open Table looked inviting. Now having eaten there, the restaurant is now in my top five worst restaurants of all times. The price of the menu was in the range one would expect of Houston’s high-end steakhouses and Genesis surely bills itself as a high-end steakhouse. However, the décor, food, and service are simply not in the same league as a Houston steakhouse. When we arrived at 8:00, there were only 3 other diners at the restaurant, which seemed troubling. As for the décor, there is a large tree in the middle of the restaurant and there is a huge 1980’s themed wall with rotating lights at the rear of the restaurant. I ordered their«Butcher’s Cut» steak which was supposed to be a 7 ounce cut of grass-fed Prime beef. The waiter could not tell us what the cut of beef the«Butcher» was to select, but I nonetheless was willing to trust the chef. I ordered the steak medium but it was cooked well. The meat had a strange flavor and was very dry. Frankly, it was the second worst steak I have ever sampled. Simply unable to eat the steak I returned the steak and instead ordered the $ 18.00 hamburger. The hamburger was mediocre at best and certainly not worth the price. Because the restaurant is Kosher, they have no cheeseburgers, which certainly did not help the situation. My better half had the steak salad and she advised it was insipid and below average. The wine that we had was enjoyable, reasonably priced, and flavorful. Save your money and avoid Genesis.

Apparently, someone connected to Gensis actively works to get negative reviews removed because my previous review was removed; I was told it did«not meet Unilocal content guidelines because it did not provide enough details». Well, Mr. Unilocal Censorer(who I’m guessing is the owner), I will give you more details. But, first, my original comment: «Food sucked. Over priced. Service: highly mediocre.». Here are more details. The food REALLY sucked. It was VERY over priced. And, the service was worse than McDonalds. Let me elaborate. I ordered a chicken dish. Usually a safe bet, right? I got it and it was the grossest thing I’d ever put into my mouth. It was coated in some kind of candied fruit tasting paste that stuck to your mouth and made you gag. I nearly vomited. I had to return the dish to the kitchen in exchange for something else. As for price, the disgusting chicken dish was $ 35 which, by the way, was one of the cheapest items on the menu(besides the burgers). Most of their entrees do not come with sides. They force you to purchase the sides ala carte, at a cost of $ 5 per side(yes, $ 5 for a side of green beens, etc.). Their steaks are outrageous: the average price per steak was like $ 65(with NO sides!). Some people will make the argument that this is a Kosher restaurant and therefore will be more expensive(for meat). But, that isn’t a fair argument for why the side salad was $ 15. Or, why steaks didn’t come with any sides as they do at every other steak restaurant. Service was about as bad as it gets. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks in the first place and then the waiter never came back to refill our glasses. The food took somewhere around 15 minutes to come out, which is at least 5 minutes longer than it should have especially since the restaurant was not busy. When I exchanged my food because it was so bad, it took nearly 20 minutes to get my new dish. I didn’t end up eating it at the restaurant. After the waiter dropped off our check(prematurely, of course), he returned 3 times to see if we had slid our credit card in to the book. Oh, and he had completely botched splitting our checks. He also made a big deal about not having charged me for the chicken dish that I returned to the kitchen while dropping my check off: pure posturing.

Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar, the first Kosher steakhouse in Houston, is located in West Houston on Bissonnet St. just outside the 610 West Loop. Because the restaurant is Kosher, only animals deemed«Clean and Fit» are used in preparing their meat dishes. No doubt, this is why the meat is of such high quality. I had driven by the Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar many times and had always wanted to stop in and check the place out. Well, after a number of people told me how good the food was there, I decided to grab a couple of friends and give it a try. Ohhhhh, I’m so glad I did! When you walk in, you completely understand that you are about to enjoy a fine dining experience. They have really outdone themselves with the chic and trendy décor. I noticed a couple of rooms that would be perfect for large groups. If the food is as delightful to the palate as this gorgeous restaurant is to the eye, then we have ourselves a home run! A brightly decorated tree stands tall in the middle of the very large dining room. The tree, along with the lights hanging down from the ceiling, provides a wonderful outdoor feel — like dining under the stars. Our visit was in the early evening so it wasn’t dark outside — but I can only imagine what this place must look like at night! Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar offers a full bar and many wonderful wine options — as you can probably guess from its name. We stuck with craft beer in celebration of Craft Beer Friday… Karbach Rodeo Clown Double IPAs were on our agenda. Well, we decided to start the night off right with a few apps. We ordered the Beer Batter Onion Tower, the Stuffed Avocado, the In-House Smoked Salmon and the Smoked Short Rib Tacos to give us a general idea of what Genesis had to offer. The Beer Batter Onion Tower was very good. Crisp and tasty onion rings lightly battered, deep-fried and piled high on the plate. A great start, but there was more to come! The Stuffed Avocado was wonderful — a perfectly ripe avocado half stuffed with Cajun Chicken, peppers, onions and drizzled with White Wine Sauce. Absolutely unbelievable, it was so good! I’m a big fan of smoked salmon, so I had to try the In-House Smoked Salmon. This delicious dish consists of a Garlic Crostini topped with smoked salmon, hard-boiled egg, red onions, and a trickle of Chef’s Dressing. This dish was absolutely phenomenal — you must try it! For our final entrée, we savored the Smoked Short Rib Tacos: tasty shredded prime beef tacos served with Guacamole and a flavorful Soy Dressing. This dish was nothing short of excellent — out-of-this-world good! And those were just the apps! I couldn’t wait to dig into the entrées! If they turned out to be as good as the apps, I was gonna have a hard time walking out of here! Now for the entrées! First, we sampled the The Bruce, a half-pound burger topped with crispy pastrami, a fried egg and onion strings and served with lettuce, tomato and a pickle. It also comes with a side of Onion Rings. This massive mountain of meat was incredible. Soooo good! Lately I’ve become a huge fan of Chilean Sea Bass, and the fish here at Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar did not disappoint! The sea bass is breaded with your choice of a Pecan, Pistachio, or Almond Crust, then grilled and served on a bed of sautéed spinach. I had the almond crust and it was amazing! The fish and the spinach meshed perfectly together. Definitely a winner! We also tried the Lamb Chops with Rosemary Reduction & Grilled Asparagus. The lamb chops were amazing — tender, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. They were drizzled with Rosemary Reduction which added just the right zing. The asparagus was divine — young, tender shoots grilled to perfection. I was very impressed with the Cowboy, a 24-oz. Prime Black Angus Bone-in Rib-eye. It was prepared medium rare, just the way I like it and the fork-smashed potatoes, dinner rolls and pesto served with it were packed with flavor. I love steaks and this one put a huge smile on my face! But the Herbed Marinated 14 oz. Veal Chop with Demi-Glacé had to be my favorite dish of the night. The meat was so tender it just fell off the bone, the fork-smashed potatoes were the perfect accompaniment and the demi-glacé was indescribably flavorful. There’s no doubt, this is a dish that will keep me coming back again and again! Well, what can I say? We really enjoyed ourselves here at Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar. This is the perfect place to take your better half for a date night, meet up with friends for cocktails or enjoy an evening with a large group for a holiday party or private event. Needless to say, I will be back soon. I can hear the Veal Chop calling my name already!

I tried Genesis for the first time for a Sunday brunch with a friend. Pro tip: make a reservation and dress nicely(business casual or so). This is definitely not a jeans and t-shirt/recuperating from a long night out kind of brunch. The place is classy and much fancier than the area it is in. The place wasn’t packed, but it was busy with a lot of large parties. I LOVED the décor of the seating area. This is this beautiful fake tree in the middle of the room and the walls have these neat light displays and designs. It gives the whole restaurant a unique trendy organic vibe. The tables were dressed to look pretty fancy. I bet this place is swanky as all get out for dinner. If I was a business woman, I’d probably take a client here to really impress them. The brunch was awesome. We opted for the Houston Restaurant Week brunch menu so that we could try a little of everything this fine establishment had to offer. I started off with the mini salmon cakes with remoulade sauce… unbelievable. It was so good. My friend ordered the Lox Crostini. Someone came out and said it wasn’t up to his standard when they made it the first time, so he was having the kitchen make it again. He offered her a little cup some fresh berries for her trouble, which was very kind and thoughtful. She offered me some of her lox crostini when it arrived, and it was delicious! Next up, I opted for the chicken roma, which was Grilled Chicken, Penne Pasta, Kalamata Olives, Artichokes, Sun Dried Tomatoes & Capers in a White Wine Sauce. ITWASPHENOMENAL. I cook a similar dish at home… but how come mine isn’t as good?! I want to steal their recipe for the sauce. It was insane. My friend had the Baked Eggs in Croute, which was described in the menu as being baked eggs in bread bowl filled with spinach & artichokes. I can’t comment on the taste, but my friend enjoyed it. It was definitely really cool to look at. Order it just for the WOW factor of receiving a big-as-your-face bread bowl with eggs artfully spilling out. When you put your fork into it, a cool looking sauce with vegetables emerges. My chicken was beautiful, but definitely not as mind-blowing to look at. Last up, I had the raspberry sorbet. I could write another paragraph about how good it was, how refreshing it was on a hot August morning, and how fresh the berries in it tasted. I jokingly(kind of) remarked how I wanted to sit there the rest of the day and eat more of them. My friend had the bourbon bread pudding, which sent her into a happy food coma. Our server happily described to us what the menu described their restaurant to be «ethically supervised.» I am very ignorant when it comes to kosher practices, but our server spent a lot of time with us and was very knowledgeable and patiently answered all of our questions and explained to us some of the different practices the restaurant follows. I was blown away! The main takeaway for me was that the restaurant goes through a lot of trouble to make sure their food follows Jewish customs very strictly and gives their customers extremely high quality food. I can definitely respect that. The only reason I give this restaurant 4 stars is that things moved very slowly and awkwardly, enough to lessen my enjoyment of the place. Overall, our brunch took 2 hours. I have to take into consideration that we had 3 different small courses, but it was still a long time. The hostess was kind and prompt, but we probably sat for at least 10 – 15 minutes before our presence was acknowledged by a server at the table. We had to wait a long time before we could order our food. The food seemingly took awhile to come out, and our 2nd course came out shortly after our 1st one did, so we had a lot of plates sitting around and we weren’t really sure what to do with them. My friend’s first course(that she originally ordered) came out in the middle of her 2nd course. Also, I think the server and I were having some communication difficulties, and I felt uncomfortable/confused after some of our exchanges(as in I didn’t know if he understood that I didn’t seriously want him to bring me 800 more raspberry sorbets and I couldn’t tell if he was joking with me that I should finish my plate and not take it home). That kind of thing. Overall, I had a great experience here. I don’t think I could afford to come here for dinner, but I’d definitely consider coming back for a special brunch occasion. I enjoyed learning more about Kosher practices, and I appreciated the art and hard work that goes into preparing food in such special ways to give patrons a Kosher and delicious experience.

First time trying kosher food, its tasty! The atmosphere was nice and quiet. The crab cake was delicious! «Kosher» — a Definition«Kosher» is a Hebrew word that literally means«fit» or «proper.» When used in relation to food products, «kosher» means that the item in question meets the dietary requirements of Jewish law.

Two reasons why we will unfortunately not be back: 1. Special was not as ordered. It was supposed to come with green beans and steak fries. Came with asparagus and Brussel sprouts which my husband hates. Ribs were overlooked and couldn’t get them off the bone without getting BBQ sauce everywhere. 2. Someone was on hold with their cell phone on speaker phone so we asked waiter to have them turn it down and nothing was done. On a positive note the beef carpaccio was amazing and the filet I had was good.

I came here with my family for an early birthday celebration on a Tuesday night. We came early to do small plates and enjoy the happy hour at the bar. No one else was there, it was early. The whole staff catered to us. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and the various appetizers we ordered. The tuna was good, and the deviled eggs were really good! When we all were seated we were near the beautiful tree! At this point a few more families were sat. Our waiter was fantastic!!! Most of us ordered steak, which is honestly some of the best kosher steak I’ve had. My mother did a fish dish that was really incredible. The desserts followed, we had tiramisu box, and the lava cake. My personal favorite was the lave cake!

Food Service Ambiance = Awesome This restaurant is a great gem located in the heart of Bellaire, it differently brings a new, fresh face to the area. I love the décor of the place! Now on to what you all really want to know. FOOD For a starter I had the House Salad and the Filet with spinach. My friend had the duck. Although my Filet was cooked a little more well done than I would have like, it was still pretty juicy. My friend enjoyed his duck. Ambience The décor is chic and trendy, it gives the vibe of a young, vibrant and energetic. It’s great for a date night, girls night out or a group of people. Either way you are sure to have a great time! Service In one word the service was«GREAT» I cannot wait to try there weekend brunch!
