Cash only! Pretty good zhajiang noodles and prok and chives dumplings. Free self-serving porridge is a big plus, because who doesn’t love dumplings and porridge?

I went to H-Mart to grab a few of my favorite things and this place was right next door. I read the reviews and it seemed like a good place to try. It is. However, I docked it a star because they are open until 9pm but close the kitchen at 830pm. It’s cash only and I thought I didn’t have enough on me so I only ordered the Beef Noodle Soup. However I rechecked my cash stash ams discovered I had enough to get dumplings only to be turned away when there was still 15 mins until closing. So have your pennies ready when you walk in! Now back to the Beef Noodle Soup… BIGCHUNKS of tender beef in a delectable broth that also had pieces of leeks throughout. It was rich in flavor and so much I decided just eat the important parts and drink as much of the broth I could hold. The lady who took my order was very nice but I wish she would have let me know about the dumpling order cut off time. So, I guess I will have to return and order just those! They are hand made by the elders and so you know they must be great! I will update when I have tried them!

Fair warning, I have not tried enough dumplings in my life to give an accurate«dumpling review.» However, for what it’s worth, this place serves delicious dumplings. I had their pork and veggie fried dumplings and their chicken steamed dumplings. I also had their shrimp fried rice. The fried dumplings(or pot stickers to some) had the signature golden and crispy«side» with the rest of the body steamed and succulent. Steamed dumplings had a nice dense chew. Fried rice had a nice wok stir fry smokey-ness, if you know what I mean; not the best but good enough. Really great value. You could get real full for under 7 bucks here! I think the lady at the counter is the owner; she was very attentive and polite; great service for a small mom & pop joint. Didn’t check out the restroom but the dining area is clean. Oh the hot oil isn’t bad either. Give it a try if you’re in the area.

Food(5⁄5) — I ordered the pork and leek boiled dumplings. The order had 18 dumplings and they were absolutely delicious. There are sauces(vinegar, white vinegar, soy sauce, and hot red oil) and there is also unlimited self serve congee(rice soup) which is traditional Chinese soup. I have also tried potstickers, DanDan noodle, Zha Jiang noodle, and egg and tomato noodle soup which were all great! The DanDan noodle was not as spicy as the authentic version but that is to be expected as this is a dumpling place and not a Sichuan restaurant. The food here is so cheap I feel like I’m stealing from the restaurant; around $ 5 can get you either 18 dumplings, 10 potstickers, or a very large bowl of noodles. They also offer green onion pancakes, Chinese buns, and vegetarian options for everything. Service(4⁄5) — Most important thing to know is that they are cash only. The service is decent. Pay at the counter and they bring your food to you. Everything is made fresh and they have more or less an open kitchen and you can see the dough bring kneaded and fillings being made. This definitely added to the experience. Ambience(4⁄5) — The restaurant has a very strong Chinese café feel. Nothing particularly special but it’s a great place for families and large groups to share food.

This is a typical Chinese café here. Counter service, DIY free soup, side dishes in the fridge, insane CHEAP prices, even communal table seating during peak hours, hey! But unfortunately, the food is just so-so overall. You can’t make dumplings like these and call yourself a dumpling house. Dumplings are ridiculously cheap(can get a frozen bag of 40 for $ 8 whaat?), but they’re no better than your average frozen Wei-Chuan dumplings from the supermarket. Actually maybe even a bit worse. Like many have said, the skin was just way too thick and chewy(though some people might like this for whatever reason). There’s a decent portion of filling to balance it out a bit, but there’s still no getting over the doughyness of the skin. The pork & leek filling was also not that juicy and pretty much the same questionable quality of the frozen stuff. But it’s still not Lai Lai bad — it’s just not what you’d expect from a restaurant that specializes in dumplings. Zhajiang noodles($ 4.95) were also pretty meh. Crazy portion for the price but average noodles and overly soupy meat sauce. I can live with the noodles but the sauce was just killing it. Not recommended. Now they do have one redeeming factor — their pan fried scallion pancake($ 1.95) was one of the best I’ve ever had. Drenched in oil but soo crisp, so light and flaky. This pancake alone would make it worth coming here to me. But I’ll still probably buy my dumplings from the H Mart next door.

Man, can’t believe it took me 5 years to find this hole-in-the-wall serving delicious Chinese dumplings cooked in the 3 ways of the Chinese dumpling: steamed, boiled, or pan-fried. My favorite here is the pan fried vegetarian dumplings, which consists of spinach, tofu, egg, and clear mung bean noodles. These are also bigger than your average(frozen) dumplings as they stuff them plump with filling. We always get a frozen bag to-go to fry them up fresh at home. At $ 18 for a bag of 40, you really can’t beat the price. I also like their pork and cabbage dumplings, although they only serve these boiled. The xiao long bao(mini steamed pork buns) are pretty good, just that the skin dough is too thick, but good thing the filling is generous so that you don’t feel like you are only eating dumpling skin with every bite. The only«meh”-ness about these xiao long baos is that the filling consists of pork and shrimp, and I’m not a big fan of shrimp(I know, I’m weird), but my shrimp addict friends LOVE this one. oh! and when you come here, get the small dry fish with tofu and peanut side dish. It’s located in the self-serve fridge to the left of the cashier. Pan fried tofu bean curd and baby fish mixed with jalepenos and crunchy peanuts, this one is DELICIOUS. I’ve also tried the DanDan noodle, but just average. Wouldn’t order again. However, other noodles like the beef noodle soup seem to get more love, so may try that one day. There’s also unlimited millet porridge if you dine in, but in my opinion, the porridge is over thickened with corn starch and has a tap water taste, not a fan. Regardless, this place serves awesome dumplings so you should definitely come check it out!

Can’t really beat the price for good Chinese food. The dumplings and beef noodle soup were definitely on point. Bonus: you can buy a pack of 40 frozen dumplings for $ 8 so you can enjoy them in the comforts of your own home.

Decent, authentic Chinese food. The Price: The prices are so cheap. A $ 5 plate of food will have you leaving with a full stomach. My friend and I came starving and were a bit aggressive with our ordering… AKA we bought $ 45 of food and boy did we regret it… The Food: –The Dan Dan noodles are a little bit different from normal Sichuan Dan Dan noodles that I’m used to having. It’s not really spicy, and there’s a lot more peanut butter in it than I’m typically used to having. This dish had thicker noodles than the noodles used in the beef noodle soup and ZhaJiangMian. –The beef noodle soup was good, but I still prefer San Dong Noodle House’s. –ZhaJianMian was pretty solid. It’s pretty hard to mess up marinated meat and noodles. –I think the steamed buns really needed a lot more work. There was no moisture in it by the time it was served and generally felt very dry. –My friend ordered steamed and fried veggies. While I can’t speak to those, each dumpling was HUGE. The ambience: –Pretty typical Chinatown. I would say it has a similar style as San Dong Noodle House in that you order at the front and then seat yourself after. There’s a condiment area that can get pretty messy –Cleaner than most Chinatown restaurants I’ve been to, but that’s obviously not saying much. While I liked my meal, I don’t know if I’ll come back again with all the competition in Chinatown. Make sure to bring cash!

If you like hearty, home-style Chinese food here you go. They have great, rich noodle soups, pan-fried dumplings, scallion pancakes, and other staples. It is not a fancy place they just exist to serve good food. And it is always fresh and piping hot. Very bright, open, and friendly. They only take cash or at least that used to be the case. We always take and pay for cash haven’t noticed if they take credit cards yet ’cause we haven’t tried, that’s why.

I wouldn’t’ necessarily say this is the best dumplings I’ve ever had but it’s decent. My friend and I ordered 3 dishes: beef noodle soup, pan fried pork dumplings, and wonton soup. Everything came out within 5 minutes after ordering which wasn’t a bad thing but our soups weren’t at the temperature I wanted. I love eating my soups piping hot, these were just warm through. I have to say the pan fried dumplings were tasty, and super generous portions. This can easily feed more than 2 people! It’s rather reasonably priced and I can see why so many people come here. Side note — First time here was enjoyable but I don’t like the fact that they tell you where to sit when there’s so many open tables. Ooh btw pretty much everything is self serve like getting your own dipping sauces, plates, bowls, eating utensils and what not.

CASHONLY! My favorite dish at Golden Dumpling House is their beef noodle soup(I know, weird). At $ 5.50 for a huge bowl filled to the brim with tons of noodles(they do NOT skimp out on noodles here), huge chunks of tender beef, baby bok choy, mustard greens, and the most flavorful, delicious, savory beef broth known to man, this is a STEAL. After I give my noodles away to someone else, I take my leftover broth home and cook up another batch of noodles for another meal. The broth is that good! A close second to the beef noodle soup is what the restaurant is named after… their dumplings. I’m partial to their pan fried dumplings(guo tei) which are humongous — crispy fried skin with generous and tasty fillings. My fave is the shrimp/pork or the pork/cabbage. Steamed or fried — they’re both great and both come with tons of dumplings for just $ 5 a plate. On a few occasions the food has been slower to come out and the owner/chef or whoever will tip a few extra dumplings onto the plate as a way of apology — how nice! It’s counter service so order in the front then find a seat. It’s great for groups of 6 or less since the tables are all small squares, we’ve crammed 8 at tables meant for 6 though. In the front there’s a little station with free soup, water/tea, and different condiments with which to make your dipping sauces(vinegar, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, chili pastes etc) so go wild. Service is polite and friendly and the restaurant is very clean, even the bathrooms(which is saying something in Chinatown). We often buy some dumplings to-go, which are frozen and sold by the dozen. They’re a perfect meal to keep in the freezer to steam, boil, or fry up on busy nights for a delicious meal!

I LOVETHISPLACE! also probably because I could eat dumplings like everyday & still enjoy it the same. Cheap & you definitely get your money’s worth. Handmade & it’s big portion dumplings too. I normally get the Pork w/shrimp & vegetables pan fried dumplings & three orders of green onion pan fried pancakes(for me & my bf &ITSMYFAVORITE!!) & that would fill us up plenty. when we are feeling super hungry & our eyes are bigger than our stomach, we’ll also order chicken w/vegetables pan fried dumplings as well but still have a bunch of dumplings left over. *WARNING* CASHONLY& food does take a bit of time to come out NOTE: you do have to make your own dipping sauce, my favorite mixture is some soy sauce, white vinegar & spoonful of some chili if you’re into spicy. I love tangy & spicy =9& also I chop up some cloves of garlic that they have & throw that in my sauce as well.

Cheap but very good dumplings and wontons. Made fresh and delicious. You can also buy frozen ones to go. The only thing that not good is they only accept cash. Otherwise the place is nice food is not bad and they also got noodles and buns.

**CASHONLY** Fresh. Traditional. Cheap. Delicious Dumplings! This restaurant is located right next to HMart sharing the same shopping center as Sinh Sinh. Everything here is self-serve, sauce, water, tea, plates, etc. They make your dumplings the moment you order so it takes a bit longer than other places but is so worth the wait. My friend and I ordered… Pork & Vegetable Pan Fried Dumplings, Pork, Vegetable & Shrimp Steamed Dumplings, and an order of their Beef Noodle Soup to share. The Beef Noodle Soup is tasty. Great flavors. The Pan Fried Dumplings were perfect! Crispy on the bottom and soft on the top. The Steamed dumplings were my favorite. I feel like steamed dumplings gives you the most flavor. The dumplings are little fatties and filled to maximum capacity, you did not give your good money for flappy skin. Nothing fancy about this place whatsoever. Just delicious food prepared by hardworking dumpling masters.

I came here with a big group on a Saturday night and the food was fresh, fast, cheap, and plentiful — it’s hard to say anything negative about that! We had a bit of a scare initially because we didn’t realize they only accepted cash, so we were lucky that someone in our group happened to have enough to cover those of us who didn’t have any. So just be aware that most places in Chinatown, and definitely here, you can pay in cash only. Since there were so many of us, we decided to go family style and order two plates of every kind of dumpling, and most of us split a noodle dish as a main course. My friend and I split the chicken and veggie lo mein, which was literally so huge that even after both of us ate our fill, it looked like we’d barely touched it. It was really good and I’d order it again, but I can’t say it was anything extremely special. That being said, I’m going to be honest and say I’ve never really been a huge dumpling fan. Idk something about the weird noodlish texture doesn’t particularly appeal to me, so when we ordered all the dumplings I wasn’t super thrilled. But to my surprise, they were actually so delicious and I ate about three of them, the shrimp being my favorite. I always say that if you’re going to put a specific food in the name of your restaurant, it had better be good, and I do think the dumplings at Golden Dumpling House live up to the title! We also ordered some sort of pancake thing, the name of which I don’t recall, but it was really good and fresh and I’d totally order them again. And for such a huge group, all of this food came out within 10 – 15 minutes and was really fresh(and ridiculously cheap), so overall I’m a big fan! I want to keep exploring other Chinatown restaurants, but if I ever wanted to get reliably good food/dumplings, I would definitely come back.

This is Chinatown so bring some CASH! That is the only thing they accept I’ve heard all the talks and hype how this place had the best dumplings in town. With the name golden dumplings you for sure can’t go wrong. well I was a bit hungry, Ordered the Beef noodle soup(niu ro mien) and fried pork and shrimp dumplings. I’ve read a few reviews about how the dumpling filling was a bit of a mush, I’m usually a bit skeptical or more curious so I gave it a go. Well everyone is correct the protein was a mush immediately reminded me of McDonalds chicken nugget pink goop. Well it didn’t look that disgusting but i can only imagine the consistency was probably similar. Taste wise it was a FAIL, I can’t imagine ordering the boiled or steam version Double the mush. Beef noodle soup for the price $ 5 you can’t really lose out on it, Tons of noodle broth was a bit flavorful but wish it had a kick to it.

1. Service — Similar to most Dumpling restaurants in Houston, you order and pay up front, grab a seat, and wait to be served. For the most part, it’s self serve. You have to make your own sauce, grab your own plates and utensils, drinks, and to-go boxes. But as far as dealing with the cashier, and the people serving your food, they all seem pretty nice and friendly. This place speaks English, and they definitely have a lot of staff. Which is what one should expect at any restaurant. I went to another dumpling house where the server and cashier were the same person. 2. Price — I’ve paid $ 19 for 1 chicken fried rice, 1 steam pork dumplings, and 1 pan fried pork dumplings. Not bad for feeding 3 people! 3. Ambiance — The place looks nicely decorated. Looks modern. Dress code is casual. 4. Food — The veggie and pork dumplings(both steam and pan fried) were definitely good, but not enough meat as I wanted. The reason is that the meat were grounded and mixed with the veggies. I feel that there were more veggies than meat. I hope they had more of a selection when it comes to the sauces. They had two types of vinegar(brown and white) with some sugar on the side. I wish they had chili oil, garlic, onion powder, soy sauce, and pepper. Fried Rice was tasty, but didn’t notice a lot of chicken. Will have to go back and try out the other dishes. Definitely, satisfied with this meal. 5. Cleanliness — Definitely clean and spotless. Outstanding job! I recommend this place.

A little dumpling restaurant located in the busy H-mart shopping center, this place specializes in housemade dumplings served in a variety of ways. The dumplings here are cooked three ways: water boiled, steamed, or fried. They comes with a variety of fillings including shrimp, pork, and beef. Vegetables are included in most of the fillings. There was one variety that had pork and shrimp only with no vegetables available steamed only if you have some aversion to vegetables. They also have vegetarian dumplings if you have an aversion to meat. If you’re at a dumpling house and you don’t like dumplings, what tha? Anyway… they offer beef noodle soup and wonton soup as well. I ordered the boiled dumplings containing pork, shrimp, and vegetables to go. The quoted time was twenty minutes, and they were ready when I arrived on time. The cashier asked if I wanted the regular dipping sauce or the spicy dipping sauce. If you want an extra cup of sauce, it’s $.25 more. There wasn’t much sauce in the containers to begin with. Stingy I say! As for the dumplings themselves, I really didn’t care for them, and it’s quite apparent why they are so cheap. The boiled dumplings came with fifteen small roundish dumplings. The minuscule filling barely contained any bits of pork or shrimp, and on the peculiar side, there was imitation crab meat and some mystery seafood protein also included in the dumplings. The filling tasted bland. The skin is very thick and not to my liking. Towards the end of my order, I was just biting off the filling and leaving the majority of the gummy skin uneaten. The only thing that made the dumplings bearable was the lovely dipping sauce. If I ever return I will order the fried dumpling because I would think there would be a better filling to skin ratio, and the crispy skin might help with the thick and chewy texture of the smaller boiled dumplings.
