They told me I’d be disappointed. Truthfully, I wasn’t disappointed. I was insulted. I brought in multiple pieces of gold and a few pieces of sterling silver jewelry: a few were a jumbled tangle of chains, but most of it were good necklaces, several bracelets, a number of matched sets of earrings and earring jackets and several rings with precious stones. Other than the tangle of chains, only one of the of the pieces needed a repair(which had a total diamond weight of a half-carat); I simply hadn’t worn these pieces in a while and didn’t see the need to keep them any more. I was offered scrap metal price for everything, and nothing for the value of the stones. Gold was tested to verify it was 14K(even if it was stamped as such), weighed and calculated. I was informed that«silver isn’t worth much, you know.» I was also told that the«markup on jewelry is very high» and I would«probably be disappointed» with their offer. They weren’t joking. A ridiculously low offer that left my jaw hanging lower than any necklace I own was given to me. I know that we all think our items are worth more than someone else does; but to offer me a percentage of melt-down prices for jewelry that I know they will resell at a tremendous profit is, in my opinion, taking me for a fool. I’ve traded in gold before, but it was at a jewelry store that has since closed(so I don’t have the option to go there). Previously, though, everything I brought in was broken, tangled and had(in my opinion) no resale value other than the actual value for the gold. I was offered twice as much for that mess of jewelry nearly 4 years ago(gold was about $ 400 more per ounce then), but clearly none of it could be resold in its current condition, unlike what I brought to Goldwiser. I’d also like to know why I needed to hand over my driver’s license and give my cell phone number just to get an estimate on what I’d get for my jewelry. I regret handing over any of my ID, because I’d give my jewelry away before I sold it to Goldwiser for the offensively low offer I received. I would never, ever step foot back in this establishment again.
