Grisby

Food is made to order and quite tasty. Can’t beat for the price! There are daily special that provide a nice variety. The chicken salad and pork chop sandwich are excellent. Can’t go wrong.

Downtown in this area around the appellate courts used to be a lot different. Think back a few years and there was no Pavillions. There was no Guadalajara del Centro with their baller fish tacos. There was no House of Blues with their ridic’ overpriced hamburger of questionable quality. There was no III Forks with their three martini and steak lunch option. And the Park Shops are alllllllllllllllllll the way over there *points*
Enter Grisby’s which occupied the unique niche of «I am so hungry — but I need to be in this immediate area.» Also enter: surly and grumpy people behind the counter. No they did not accept credit or debit, cash only.
The food is atrociously low quality. I went with the tuna sandwich my first time here and it was so drippy, piecey, and awful tasting that no amount of mustard was going to salvage that train wreck. Every so often I get stuck in the building (either STCL or up in the appellate courts) and completely unable to go to anything else, like my baller fish tacos at GDC next door, I am relegated to deciding whether I want to order anything here or fish something out of the trash can — which seem to be of equivalent quality, taste, and texture. Their burgers are even worse so I will just leave it at that — the burgers are even worse than that.
Pack a sack lunch or bring a Clif Bar in your briefcase if you are going to be dropped on this end of downtown, because that is a much better outcome than trying this.

Located in the student lounge area of South Texas College of Law, Grisby’s is not likely to attract attention outside of students or faculty. In fact, if you want to stop by Grisby’s for lunch, you’ll need to sign in as a visitor at the front desk.
If you manage to make it past security, you’ll enjoy VERY affordable lunch fare that hits the spot. Cheeseburgers with a small serving of fries are $ 4.50. Delicious chicken salad sandwiches are $ 3.50. Try their rice and beans — yum! The best thing about Grisby’s is the service with a smile. It’s hard not to call the nice lady behind the counter «mom.»
