Host Gator

I wish I had read this reviews prior to signing up. I originally signed up with GoDaddy until I found out there was an additional charge per e-​mail account. I quickly moved to Host Gator and what a nightmare it has been. I’ve never seen such dysfunction. Everytime I called or chat with the support team they answer my questions with a link. I told the last person I was tired of watching video tutorials and reading articles. I needed a solution now.
Whenever I want to chat with someone I have to wait 20 – 30 minutes and once that person is online you have to wait about 3 – 5 minutes for them to answer. To top it off they always send a link. It’s a freaking chat! I’ll be starting to look for a better host.
STAY AWAY from this people!

Been a loyal customer for over 10 years and have hosted dozens of sites. These guys were once the rock stars of hosting. I’ve seen a gradual degradation of the support — most support tickets simply go unanswered. Hate to say it, but it’s time to begin looking elsewhere.

They have the WORST customer service. I have never dealt with someone so rude, uninformed and proud (for whatever reason).
I had extra credit in my account and a ticket had been opened in a long time. According to the customer service agent, she didn’t have any way to know even when I will get the credit back.
When I asked her for an estimate, she started telling me that the estimate is a guess and she cannot make a guess.
Absolutely disgusted by the service.

do not use this company. actually if there was a ½ star that’s where i would go. this is the most unprofessional company i have ever had the misfortune to TRY to do business with.
it has taken over 3 months to fix simple issues that THEY created when they migrated my account. It has cost me thousands of dollars in lost business and trying to have someone fix their screw up. they keep sending me to the wrong people, last one was some one in the design dept thinking i needed design help. use at your own risk. i cannot say strongly enough how pissed i am. thinking of suing actually. anyone out there interested in a class action?.

There was a time I loved this company, but that was many years ago.
I had created a new site with them almost two years back and at first I was happy. No surprises and it did what I wanted it to do.
Fast forward one night I log in and my page’s code is corrupted. I spent some time unzipping my own personal backup and checking how the site would look locally before uploading. That was when the first «uh oh» started.
For some reason some joker at HostGator decided to just reinvent the freaking control panel. I spent a week trying to get the site working properly and in the end just decided to transfer hosting. That in of itself became a nightmare due to the discovery that other web hosting companies are also starting their own ‘unique’ ways of serving up our sites and backing them up– none of the remotely user friendly.
So after transferring the domain and hosting to other companies, Host Gator has kept trying to bill me monthly. I caught my account being debited so I removed all payment options from their site.
To this day, these folks keep trying to bill me every month. Emails and on site tickets are never responded to or just vanish after a period of time.
I have been creating web sites since 1996. I seriously have just given up on this hobby due to the sheer amount of incompetence from companies like this, GoDaddy, and Dreamhost. Even Bluehost is pulling the same proprietary UI nonsense.
I have never seen an industry self-​implode like this one seems to be doing.

Unfortunately I had high hopes working with this company, those hopes were crushed. Terrible customer service, just go somewhere else, it can not be worse.

After being a 10 year customer… Even though I called four times to request them not to renew a specific domain they continued to demand payment for that renewal and suspended my account… unacceptable.

I purchased hostgator services and cancelled in a day. I requested a refund they sent me an email with cancellation called several times requesting a refund. Three months latter no refund for the amount, Very disgusted with this company. Please do not do business with them. They will tell you they are refunding your money and it takes 7 business day each time you call them.

Service is really the worst i have tryed in the last 10 years. Customer service is horrible. This year of 2015 i opened 8 support tickets, always more than 4 days to get an answer. When you call they are polite but they dont solve a sh*t on your service. DO NOT EVER TRY THIS COMPANY.

Wow, if i could give this place negative 100 stars, I would! I only used this company since the previous web designer had purchased the domain and hosting from them so I thought I was «stuck» with them. omg, trying to get an answer regarding ANYTHING is pretty much like pulling teeth! Nobody knows anything and they put you on hold forever. (still waiting right now after 30 mins on hold). Wow. Just horrible. STAY AWAY!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. Suddenly after I switched to a more expensive hosting package last March Ive had nothing but trouble they assured me the memory issues, which was a word press plugin issue apparently they don;t under stand normal word press software would be fixed it was a space thing BLAH BLAH so I up graded and its been a NIGHTMARE. since September 27^th till now September the 30^th I have spent 8 hours on the phone the server rejects all my e-​mails my accounts won’t send wont receive. Rapidly they say the server can’t be validated no certificate. Its a NIGHTMARE I hate this Company they have no respect no consideration for Customers time DO NOT COME HERE.

Worst service ever. It takes forever to get a request properly handled. Not every agent provide the same quality service and answers the same questions differently. The staff needs to be better trained and their actual Linux Administration Team is grossly understaffed. I say go with Namecheap for their superior service.

In June 2012 I started an account at Hostgator. I discoved recently that they errantly created a duplicate account. I have a ticket, generated by their staff, that clearly states it was an error on their part.
They will not refund me the over $ 500 amount they owe me. I have been fighting this for about a month with numerous phone calls, emails, and tickets.
I requested to talk with the Billing Supervisor and they refused… said the billing supervisor was not reachable via phone or email.
I’m not an angry customer, but I do demand the refund owed to me.
This is not going well and I will be cancelling my other hosting account and moving on.

God, what an awful unreliable company. Our business had Host Gator for the last 7 years. We are so fed-​up with the unreliable service.
We were getting thousands of spam everyday and Comcast, EarthLink and AOL have blocked Host Gator, making it impossible to email people with those email accounts. We have learned that this is not a new matter and has been ongoing with Host Gator for a long time. Clear sign Host Gator has the wrong people working for them.
We went from receiving thousands of spam emails everyday to receiving NONE, including legitimate emails from clients and associates.
We have been attempting to contact Host Gator for the last 1.5 hours! That’s right, we have been on hold for 1.5 hours!
We are closing our account and going elsewhere. Host Gator is awful.

Avoid if you can if your website is any part of generating your income. This companies tech support is under-​trained and incapable.

They lie, and like to perform all their actions undocumented… just a lot of promise by word so that come time to dispute, you have no documentation of their promise.

Following today’s experience with Host Gator’s ignorant employee, I will be closing my company’s account and going elsewhere. Thankfully, Host Gator does not have a monopoly on this industry.
You would think that with all the competition in the market, companies would make certain they provide excellent product and service.
Our company email has been getting bombarded with spam since the beginning of May. Prior to that, I would receive… maybe 2 spam emails per day. I called today, following months of spam issues, AOL rejecting email sent from our domain, and now Comcast doing the same thing.
Josh W. (‘Jr. Administrator”) picked-​up and was rude from the get-​go. He was continuously talking over me, interrupting me, talking down to me as if he was better, and just flat-​out being rude. I got news for you Josh, I make more damn money in an hour than you do in a damn week! You are not in my league! Why the attitude?! See… I could be just as rude and honestly blunt.
Throughout the call, I was keeping my cool regarding Josh’s behavior. He put me on hold for about 5 minutes and when he returned, he began talking over me, interrupting me, etc.
I got tired of it and told him to stop cutting me off, talking over and interrupting me. Josh then hung up on me, obviously not realizing the call was set to go to a customer service survey following the session.
So, instead of the line be disconnected, the automated survey came-​on and I gave Host Gator the zero score rating they deserved. Furthermore, I left additional info pertaining to the issue via voicemail message that was offered at the end of the survey.
My assistants are researching competitors and we will be closing our accounts asap.
To Host Gator: This is not 1995; a time when there was a potential, but short-​lived monopoly on this industry. There’s too much competition out there for you to hire such chronically maladaptive borderline sociopaths. Those type of people are a liability to your company. My company for starters is going elsewhere.

I’ve had a terrible experience with Hostgator. After being hung up on, twice, I decided it was worth reviewing them. Their employees are just rude – it’s disgusting really. Here’s how I rank them:
1) Hosting price: ⁴⁄₅
They’re priced pretty reasonably, not the best of the best but not the worst either.
2) Hosting service: ⁵⁄₅
My site has had great uptime and always loaded right up.
3) Support wait time: ⁵⁄₅
Every time I called, they picked right up.
4) Support Quality: ¹⁄₅
Their employees really don’t know their own policy and one guy had me waiting for over 12 minutes because he was new. 2 extremely rude people hung up on me, and even a manager is not more helpful. They do not care about the customer, in my opinion.
5) Ethics: ¹⁄₅
Their policies are extremely backwards and unethical – possible illegal. If you ever have had any issue with your payment, your site (s) will go down and they will demand $ 100 minimum to be prepaid via wire transfer, even if all you owe is $ 10, which was my circumstance. My credit card was stolen and a bunch of purchases were made around the time their billing payment hit, and because of that, all they were willing to accept was Wire Transfer. They claim that the balance will act as a credit, but that goes against their offer of a monthly plan, which in essence forces you into a longer plan, by taking your site hostage. There is only one way around this: I was able to ask them for my content back and was emailed a file with my content intact, which I transferred to a different host.
Now, I use A Small Orange for my hosting needs, and it’s absolutely great. They have an amazing support staff and it’s like taking to actual people who care about you. They uploaded my content and re-​established my site within minutes. I’m glad this happened the way it did, because I can’t imagine having my business up and going and dealing with hostgator when a real issue comes up – bullet dodged.

Terrible costumer service. Dont let your friend use your credit card to bill the account and never change your email or you’ll receive hell if you try to cancel the hundreds to thousands they will charge you for a scam service

BEWARE! If you are a normal user of Wordpress and use plug-​ins, Hostgator gives you no ability to monitor CPU usage, but if a plugin affects it adversely, they immediately suspend your account taking down your site. They send you a message to let you know. In my case, it said «Your account has been abusing CPU resources for an extended period of time». So I called support.
I asked:
1. How long is this extended period of time. Response: Can not answer that
2. When did this extended priod of time begin? Response: Can not answer that
3. How can you send an email stating such a thing with no data to back it up. Response: Can not answer that.
4. Can I speak to a supervisor. None are available.
5. Is there a higher level support person available. Response. send a request to
. I did that and got an auto-​response saying that particular email is un-​monitored and telling me to submit a support ticket.
6. Told to respond to the message. I did. 4 hours later no response and meanwhile My site is still down.
7. Asked if there was a way to monitor CPU usage on my side to avoid this. NO there is not!
How then are we to troubleshoot with no way to monitor and no feedback to when or how ling the problem existed. can not answer that.
this is not my first time riding this merry go round. Service SUCKS!

Run from Hostgator! Only a few years ago they moved all their hosting to data centers to Utah (while their website said data centers were in Houston) that took people offline for days at a time. Now, they take up to 72 hours to renew an SSL certificate. This is a joke. That should take 30 minutes. Will be getting my last remaining old websites away from this company — they are the WORST! Today, it was just hilarious how the reps would say — yeah your request is sitting in the cue. Still sitting. No one has done anything for over 8 hours. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COMPANY. They do not care about customers AT ALL.

I have a dedicated server with Hostgator and my websites have been down 14 times in the past 1.5 months. 14 times!!!

I have multiple websites and when one goes down with a dedicated server, they ALL go down.
This is totally unacceptable. You can do SO MUCH BETTER than Hostgator. Don’t walk away from them… RUN. Do you want your website down every 3 – 5 days? That’s the pattern with Hostgator.
There have been times where I’ve been on hold for over 2 HOURS before I was able to finally speak to someone. OVER 2 HOURS!!! Their «Live Chat» is equally as slow.
One last thing: They always ask you to take the same ridiculous survey at the end of the phone call that asks how likely you are on a scale of 1 to 10 to refer Hostgator to someone else. Don’t answer this because it reflects back on the employee and it’s not their fault they represent such a horrible company.
On a scale of 1 to 10, the likeliness of me referring Hostgator is NEGATIVE 10. If there was a lower rating than 1 star on Unilocal,Hostgator would receive it because they don’t deserve any stars.
After I post this, I will be shopping for a new dedicated server.

For the last two months (November + December 2013) Hostgator has been experiencing server outages at their Provo Datacenter, taking multiple sites I manage offline. How many more will I go through before I take my business elsewhere? Not many.
I left GoDaddy because I was tired of slow servers, only to find that Hostgator — recommended to me by many people whose tech expertise I’m now questioning — is just as unstable, only in different directions.
Also, their mail servers are TERRIBLE and trying to deal with spam on HG is the most labor-​intensive headache I’ve ever experienced mail-​wise. At first I would have recommended this company myself, but the honeymoon’s over and I’m really, REALLY unimpressed.
