This is a post about the sports bar restaurant in the Marriott. The food is to die for! We walked over to the Marriott from the Spring Hill suites and had dinner. I got the fillet steak and my husband got the fried shrimp dinner with the chicken corn chowder. The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned very well. It was tender as well. My husband liked his shrimp also. We would definitely eat at this restaurant again and stay at the Marriott the next time we’re in Houston. Our flight got delayed due to this recent snowstorm.

Loved staying here for our vacation to Galveston! My kids loved the indoor pool while I enjoyed the hot tub! Will go again.

If I could give zero stars, I would do that. It took well over an hour for our food to be delivered from the time we were seated and it didn’t all come out at the same time. This was one of the most ridiculous experiences I’ve ever had. No one apologized or communicated with us. In fact, as I’m sitting in the restaurant we are still waiting for someone to come to our table. Never, ever eat at Spiritz. You will regret it and be stuck in this place for hours.

Stayed here in a group(extended family) before a cruise out of Galveston. The rooms were fine if basic. Wi-Fi is expensive unless you join their rewards program ahead of time. With the caveat that when we stayed there was a tropical storm passing through(so weather was nasty) the service here was terrible. The shuttle from the airport is small and slow — there were people lined up waiting for each trip — we spent more time waiting for the shuttle than we did on the airplane. Thankfully passengers were banding together to do things like put elderly and young kids on the first shuttle trip. We waited 2 round trips before we could get on. Once we got to the hotel and checked in we went to get some food at the restaurant. Again, slow and bad service. If you could even find a waiter it could take forever to get drinks much less food. There were groups with kids(including a portion of our party) on cell phones trying to order pizza delivery to the hotel restaurant because it was taking forever and kids were starting to lose it. The next morning we had the same thing happen with the breakfast(which is in the atrium, not in the restaurant). We got food from the buffet and completely finished eating before we even saw a staff member asking about coffee or juice. Then they brought a bill even though breakfast was supposed to be included in the rate(still waiting to see what shows up on the credit card, because I couldn’t find any staff to ask about it). Food prices were high.

The hotel was very clean, staff was very nice and the décor was very inviting. The lobby is beautuful and the morning breakfast was great. Would definitely stay here again.

They should re-brand this property. It is not up to par with marriott standards. Flew in at 1am, fast check-in, saved platinum rewards requests-high floor, no where near an elevator were missed I guess. Got the 4th floor right next to the elevator. Want a cold beer after a long day of traveling-not here! They said the bar closed at 11pm, no cold beers in the marketplace, I thought that was common across the brand. Asked if anything was close that we could walk to, like pulling teeth for any bit of service or a yes to make me feel like a valued PLATINUM rewards member. Oh, also airport shuttle runs every hour-plan accordingly.

Very good! I booked 2 rooms, both suites in October of 2015. Very nice. We had breakfast in the restaurant. Excellent service overall. Reasonably priced.

If there were an option to give something 3.5 stars I would have done it. I have stayed here probably 12 – 16 times/nights over the last 12 months and never had a bad experience. The hotel is always clean and the staff is nice. The hotel, however, is pretty dated and definitely has the feel of a hotel that needs an overhaul. The restaurant and bar(Spiritz) is somewhat similar to the hotel and I would give it 3.5 stars. They have tried to update the menu to «class» it up a bit so I give them credit for that. I don’t like their cooking methods though; for example if you order a fish dish and seasonal veggies you end up with some fish and veggies heavily coated in oil and butter. Make sure to ask them to hold or go light on the oil/butter if you’re trying to watch that sort of thing. In summary, if I need to stay around Hobby I would gladly stay here again. There’s not much food on waking distance so if you don’t have a car be prepared to eat there.

We have stayed here twice. The staff are always professional and courteous. Being a Marriott member, we received upgrades on weekend nights. Which helps. Weekend rates for this type of hotel are competitive. which impacts my rating. There are better quality marriotts, but for rate /room we received. It was great value

Stayed here a little over a year ago and it was excellent, however just revisited this hotel for a second stay and it was pitiful. 1. Made a simple request 2 days in advance from showing up and they did the exact opposite. 2. This hotel either has King beds or Double twin size bed rooms, no queens or double queens. 3. Since the room I was put in was wrong the staff was great and did what she could to accommodate my request however the room I was put in look as if it was under construction(mismatched carpet patches, gouges in the bathroom vanity that looked like it was painted with a wire brush) 4. Not even the basics like the hotel guest information book was in the room. 5. Went to eat at the hotel restaurant and with it being 10pm and only 5 – 10 people in the restaurant you would think service would be good and reasonably fast complete opposite a $ 17.00 burger took almost 20 minutes the fries were cold and the onion rings were nowhere to be found. 6. One elevator working for a 12 story hotel and a very slow elevator at that.

This hotel is amazing the beds are big and the rooms are clean. There is a water fall in the hotel & the food here is also amazing and for a good price. They also had a crib in case you have a baby. The only thing wrong with this hotel was that one of the elevators needed to be fixed. Everything else was great they also had a movie going on for he children in the lobby.

I’ve stayed at this hotel with a party of 15+. We were all on different floors and most of us has experienced the same mildewy smell in our rooms that has been covered up with airfreshner smell — which seems to oddly enough be coming from the AC unit. One of my friend was checked in to a room that was not cleaned and it took them 2 hours to change his room — cause the only(!) person who could switch his room was on a shuttle run. Two of our rooms had a pubic hairs in the beds when we checked in and some of us had cockroaches… All in all, there are several hotels along this stretch of Gulf Fwy — pick another one.

A number of issues added up over the course of several days that ultimately left me feeling nothing but«Meh» about Houston Marriott South. 1. I’m not sure some of the other reviewers actually stayed in Houston Marriott South… Unlike what Andrew S. claims, the elevators are one of the few things I can’t complain about. They’re really zippy and get you to your floor quickly. Also, I’m assuming when he said the rooms are updated, he meant they were updated in the 1980’s. And the wifi may be strong and fast if you’re willing to pay the gougey prices(see No. 4), but the free wifi in the lobby is so bad that you’re better off pretending it doesn’t exist. 2. The air in all of the rooms had a very musty, mildewy quality to it. In fact, it was so strong that of the large party(more than a hundred) who were staying in the hotel for the weekend, several dozens developed coughs that quickly progressed to moderately serious illnesses by the time we left. Now I’m not suggesting the hotel made us sick, but in the case of my family, we started having trouble breathing shortly after walking into our rooms(on various floors). By the time we left, we had terrible coughs. By the time we returned home, it had turned into full-on upper respiratory infections for me and a few others. Take from that what you will. 3. Room service was not great. The first full day that we were there, everything was replenished/restocked, but after that, we had to speak with the concierge desk to let them know that certain things weren’t being restocked. The people at the desk were friendly about it and stated that it would be taken care of, but the person who brought the stuff to our room had a bad attitude. 4. WiFi is not free. In fact, it’s $ 12.95 per day. Internet is practically an everyday utility now, yet you’re going to charge that much for basic wifi? It’s $ 15.95 for«enhanced» speeds. The lobby has«complimentary» wifi, which doesn’t even work properly. Like… think back on your elementary school days where you were trying to look at inappropriate things on the Internet, and you had to wait several minutes for the picture to load. Oh… Was that only me? Ahem… Also, the computers in the business center behaved as if they were laden with viruses and bloatware. 5. There was a wedding reception at this hotel, and the staff seemed to do fine on most fronts regarding the reception. The servers were on point. And the appetizers were delicious. However, the chicken and fish entrée was kind of terrible. They seemed as if they had been in the freezer too long, because the texture and taste on both were awful. Dessert was fine, and the coffee was great. I dunno what it is about hotel coffee… 6. I have never experienced sleep as uncomfortable as what was had at Houston Marriott South; painful, restless, lumpy bed sort of sleep. Also, the comforters were clearly meant for a queen bed, but were being used anyway on a king bed. I’m usually the person who doesn’t even notice what I lay down on, but I left feeling like I had received a back massage from a burly wrestler who was angry with me. 7. The on-site buffet restaurant is crazy overpriced for what they offer. [] Positives [] The staff is friendly(for the most part), parking is free, and the layout reminds me of the Peach Trees building from«Dredd.» If you’ve seen it, you’ll know what I’m referring to. [] Summary [] It is perhaps the cheapest option in this part of Houston. But not significantly so. Once you add fees and taxes to the advertised $ 79, it’s a little more than $ 90. Southeast Houston isn’t that impressive either, but Houston Marriott South was picked(not by me) because of close proximity to the church and because the reception was happening on-site. In hindsight, I would have rather paid an extra $ 10 – 20 and driven farther to stay someplace that didn’t leave me feeling absolutely miserable by the end of our stay.

I am a Marriott guy and stayed here on a recent business trip. I must say I was dissapointed in the room. Smell of musty mildew, dust caked on the air return, and the carpet was dingy. Room 225! I didn’t use them, but the bathroom glass cups were absolutely disgusting with stains and someone left over lip stick still on them. Staff was friendly and concierge room was as expected.

I came here for a company meeting recently. So this review is strictly for their parking lot and their conference rooms. It is easy to find, it’s right off the freeway, which is always a plus for meetings. Once I found the place, the parking lot was easy, with lots of spots and best part it’s FREE. We were using the pasadena conference room. It is right there as you walk into the lobby. I would imagine, if you were flying into town this hotel would not be a bad option as it is only minutes away from Hobby.

Rooms are updated and comfortable. I always do a dust check, and my room passed with flying colors. Bed and sheets were clean and comfortable. Check in staff were very friendly and quick. I didn’t eat in the restaurant, but the concierge suite is better than most. Wifi is strong and fast Elevator needs a little updating, as it isn’t the smoothest running elevator. Other than that fixable item, hotel is fantastic.

Very friendly service. Shuttle ran me to and from the airport also it’ll shuttle you to a restaurant within 5mi. Breakfast Buffett was very fresh with fruit and you-call-it omelets.

Spiritz with a «Z» restaurant… The«Z» is the only thing that makes this place«special». Uninspired hotel food served by mostly indifferent staff.

Pros: The front desk staff are super friendly and helpful. The convenience store isn’t terribly overpriced. The pool/hot tub/gym are open 24 hours. LOVE that! Our view(facing the highway) was great — we could see for miles. Free parking. Cons: The roach waiting for us in the bathroom. Hearing the TV of our neighbor. The elevators take FOREVER because not only are there just two for the large amount of rooms, but they are slow in and of themselves. The pool was freezing cold. Internet not complimentary. I went up to get an omelet from the station. I walk up and the omelet lady comes out from behind the station, without acknowledging me at all, and starts tidying up the rest of the buffet. I just stared at her in disbelief and waited for her to look at me, greet me, tell me she would be right with me, anything. A few minutes later, another staff member approached her and pointed me out to her. And she was snippy with me when she finally did wait on me. I don’t know if this is a pro or a con, but we got free breakfast the one morning we ate at the hotel. The reason it was free was because they were so unorganized and scattered. Hubby even went out of his way to try to pay, but after waiting over 20 minutes for the check, we just left. I feel like I could have had the same, if not better, experience at a less expensive hotel.

You will find this Hotel easily located off of the feeder from the freeway(I 45 South). When you see the discount tire, slow down to at least 10 mph and be on the right hand lane and be ready to turn in right past the tire center or you will be making a second pass. This hotel has shuttle but for only a 2 mile radius in which there is really nothing around to do besides a lot of fast foods and little chain stores. The thefts in the parking lot are being remedied with enter and exit access cards for the night time. There is only one restaurant here, one«Starbucks» type area and a bar. It is an «open atrium» style hotel with a water fall on the first floor. You will get sleepy reading if you don’t stop reading my reviews.
