Houstonian Lite

Really nice gym. Small but good. For free weights it has everything you need including squat rack, barbells and chin bars, etc. The locker rooms are super nice. Free coffee. Daypass is 15 $.

Greeted by extremely professional and knowledgeable staff but I wouldn’t expect less than that for what you pay monthly. It’s not a large fun but for the size they offer all the amenities of a larger gym.
As an alternative, they have a partnered gym just two blocks away that offer more amenities at a lower cost. Included in these additional amenities are: basketball court, indoor track, and larger facility full of equipment.

My layover hotel doesn’t have an adequate fitness center, so I Googled this place and I contacted them before my travel into Houston. The phone conversation was smooth. They told me they have a visitor pass at $ 15. Upon arriving in Houston, I walked over to the building and a security guard at the desk asked me to sign in. After the business hours, the entrance door to this building will close, I believe and I got there after 6pm.
Houstonian Lite is located on the second floor. As I entered and asked the receptionist, Tamara, she was politely greeted me and processed my registration as a day visit. She showed me around the facility and taught me how to use the lock on the locker in the dressing room.
I only had a limited time available to myself on that evening, though I had a really good workout. They have basic equipments like treadmill, elliptical, stationed bike, body conditioning machines, weights, kettle bells, stretching area, barre, lounge with some refreshments, shower, vanity, sink, restroom and scale, etc.
They have all the amenities you might need if you are just visiting such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower cap, hair dryer, cotton swab, mouth wash, hair styling spray, body lotion, bath towel, etc. By the reception, there is a small shop selling some gym clothes, snack bars, sports drinks and bottled water. Besides that, if you bring your water bottle, you can fill up with cold filtered water there, too.(Don’t worry, they have paper cups if you don’t have one with you) For hand towels, these are located in between machines.
What I liked this place the most is the view from the treadmill. The gym I used to go was located at the same level as parking, so when I was running, all I could see was a view of people in and out of the car, and trucks passing by to drop off packages. This place is facing a glass roof of opposite building and in the evening time, it never distracts you.
The only reasons I didn’t give 5 stars is that the shower knobs and shower head were a bit awkward and could be better maintain (or designed), and also treadmill’s TV selection control was very hard to operate once you are in running mode… Such little things for most of people, though it disappointed me. Rather than that, I loved this place.
I truly enjoy my visit. When I am in Houston, I will definitely go back. It is nice to finish your workout totally refreshed! Highly recommend this place.

Incredible club… Well worth your dollar if you work in the downtown area. Very clean, professional and luxurious.
Enrollment fees have gone down and are $ 175 but include 3 personal training sessions.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

As the mantra goes: «You get what you pay for.» And in the case of the Houstonian, it’s completely true.
Look to pay ~$ 400 for initiation and an incremental $ 100+ per month (includes locker + laundry service).
For the price tag, you get the following:
1. A locker room that does not have the slightest hint of BO
2. Personalized locker (with name tag) + laundry service
3. Fully stocked (Shampoo, soap, lotion, hair products, drinks, tea, coffee, ice water, etc.)
4. Clean and new equipment
5. Dry cleaning and shoe shine service
6. Awesome group exercise program (Amazing instructors)
Seeing it’s in the Wells Fargo Plaza, you’re really paying for the convenience. For guys, you can get a quick 1 hour work out (including travel, shower and dress) during lunch.

— Not 24/​7, closes at 9pm. Wells Fargo Plaza, unlike the Pennzoil location, is not open during the weekends

I have been a member of the Houstonian Lite for 3 – 4 years now. This is despite: a) there being a gym in the basement of my office building which would be a whole lot more convenient for me, and b) the Houstonian Lite being pricier. But for me, it is all about what gets me to the gym on days when I really don’t want to go and what is not to love about the Houstonian Lite?
I primarily use the Wells Fargo location and like their bounteous ladies locker room, stylish modern décor and the panoramic view of downtown from the 14^th floor. The workout area is pleasantly full at the beginning of the week and tapers off significantly by Friday. I have never had a problem getting a cardio machine that I wanted and the equipment is generally well maintained. There are also group exercise classes which I try on occasion — the last one being «Cardio Kickboxing» which left me panting and sore, but in a good way — and a decent sized weight lifting area.
The Pennzoil location is twice as big as the Wells Fargo location. Pennzoil is also open in the mornings and early afternoons on the weekends (WF is not) so we trek there most Saturdays and Sundays to work out since that is also included in our WF membership.
However, what I like most about the Houstonian Lite is the superb customer service. If something is not right, they cheerfully fix it. If you need something special, they do their best to make it happen. The staffers are friendly but not intrusive and there is definitely no hard-​sell to coerce you into signing up for the private training classes. In short, the Houstonian Lite is an extremely well-​run exercise facility that caters to its members and I love that!

If you prefer going to the gym to actually workout as opposed to getting «checked out» or hit on, this is the gym for you. If you prefer a staff that actually cares for your well-​being as opposed to how much money they can squeeze out of you, then Houstonian Lite is where you should be. The atmosphere is so pleasant in there that I usually can’t wait to get in and start my workout… which is saying a lot coming from me. Being someone that has struggled with getting started on a good health régime, The Houstonian Lite was just the perfect catalyst to push me to where I needed to be. Because I WANT to be there, I’ve been able to reach my health goals and stay on track. For the first time in my life, I do not fear… the dreaded… gym. The staff there is incredible. They remember your name, always say hello and if you can afford one, the personal trainers are amazingly attentive and really listen to what it is you want to achieve and help you get there. They are all highly trained professionals with great credentials. The locker rooms are immaculate, comfy and stocked with hygiene necessities like deodorant, brushes, hair dryers, mouth wash, lotion, coffee, tea, you name it! They even have ice-​machines with my favorite crushed ice! The showers are great. They’re private and have those fancy shower-​heads that I love. It’s better than my own bathroom at home! The equipment is always working and so easy to use. There is an on-​site masseuse, a private Pilate’s instructor, and a nutritionist. They also have a lot of classes like spinning and yoga. I can’t say enough positive things about this place. It gets an A+ in my book. Yes, it’s expensive, but worth it if you can afford it. Oh, and I do wish it had a steam room, but that’s ok. I think I’ll live. :)
