We used to get food here all the time for family get together but after bad experience after bad experience after bad experience we stopped getting it. You get what you pay for! My husband and I got food poisoning from this place at least 3 or 4 times combined… It’s cheap and it tastes good but the after effects are not worth it!

Always a favorite of mine, their portions are generous and pretty good price. It’s not as good as it was before, but still pretty good. Been coming here for about 10 years now and I love their mapo tofu and pork with bean curd. As with the case for most chinese restaurant in chinatown, their deco is great but as long as the food is good I’m satisfied.

Giving this place 4 stars only because they have really good food and it’s really cheap as well. When my boyfriend and I don’t want to cook, this is our go-to spot… this place, in my opinion, has the best Kung Pao Chicken in Houston. My boyfriend agrees. He comes here for their Kung Pao. We’ve also tried other things on their menu, like their Salted Ribs, Crispy Fish Filet, Green Beans and the noodle dishes. All are really good, but the Kung Pao tops it all. As far as appearance, it really is not that great. The paint on the walls are chipping off, the little fish tank they have in the front has green water, is dirty and unappealing(not really the kind of thing I wanna see when walking into a restaurant), and the workers are ALWAYS on their phones. They’ll serve you the food but other than that, they hardly come around to check on you. We were just there yesterday and the servers didn’t even say goodbye to us because they were too busy watching videos on their phone. I wasn’t too happy about that. They need to be more attentive. Overall, we just come here for the food. It’s not the cleanest and service isn’t the best, but the food is awesome.

Had a good meal but service was off. Waiter did not seem to want to be there and it showed. There was no apparent manager on duty but him. Overall ok but the attitude…

Stay away from this place! 1. We saw a roach crawling next to the table 2. Food sucks I’m only giving it a one star because our waiter was nice and because Unilocal has nothing less.

I’ve had kung pao chicken from a lot of places and none have even compared to their kung pao here. It’s absolutely my favorite dish. Pretty cheap good food here. Taking a star off because the restaurant is not the cleanest one on the block. Service is good and atmosphere is casual; they have big table for big groups also but the restaurant is a bit small. So if you’re a kung pao chicken fan, I recommend giving it a try here among with the other pretty delish dishes they serve!

For the value, it is a good restaurant. Been eating here for at least 8 years. They cook me anything I want as long as they have the ingredients. Good place.

We love Hunan Plus! The food is delicious and the prices are unbelievable. When visiting Houston family, we rarely miss an opportunity to eat here. Please come to Dallas; nothing here compares. Don’t forget the onion pancakes and fun chow! We’ll be waiting.

My favorite Chinese restaurant. You won’t find better prices or better food. I love the lunch specials. Great place to try different foods. Try the Kung Pao Chicken and Shrimp(Spicy) or the Sweet and Sour Pork.

Their lunch special is awesome. For a low price, you get fried rice, eggroll, a little bit of salad, an entrée of your choice, and soup. I usually get their cashew chicken or Scallion beef for lunch special. But sometimes, when I don’t feel like ordering from the lunch menu, I’d get me some Gai Lan Chicken fun or Orange chiken, or even wonton soup. This four star rating was given with some reservation though. It’s mostly for the food because I love me some greasy Chinese food. However, just like other restaurants in Chinatown, you’re crazy if you’re expecting great, or even good service.

The original owners who started this place had a really great thing going. We used to eat here all the time and actually got to know the owner’s daughter Lisa pretty well. She was always very cordial to us and knew us on a first name basis. I can’t tell you how many take out orders that I’ve gotten from this place. Too many to remember! But since they moved to a new restaurant Yangtze… we have hardly been back. Well the other day I decided to check it out and found out it hasn’t really changed that much inside. I ordered my favorite lunch special expecting the free soup that I could always expect with it but was told that they didn’t offer that. I only received a ¾ full small bowl of lukewarm and watered down hot & sour soup… bummer. I do have to admit though that the lunch special that came out was pretty generous. A nice round plate with a nice mound of rice… some chopped up lettuce. not sure what that was for… an eggroll and the main course which tasted decent. My only complaint was the lack of free soup! Come on guys that’s what made Hunan Plus so special! It used to be you had to wait to get a seat in that place during lunch. when I was there it was hardly full! The next day I went to Yangtze but didn’t see Lisa… I saw some unfamiliar faces but the food appeared the same and the soup was free! I hope Lisa and her family didn’t sell the restaurant even though I didn’t detect a difference in the quality of the food… But things change… The restaurant business is tough and the competition is always breathing down your neck so I wouldn’t blame Lisa if she got out. Anyways…Hunan Plus is not the same… I miss the old days. It’s just ok.

Like a less greasy Chinese café, Hunan Plus offers many chinese dishes for dirt cheap. A family of four can eat for under 30 bucks. I recommend the pork with bamboo shoots, pork fried dumplings, kung pao chicken, or their fried rice. All big enough portions to feed 2 – 4 people, but I do have to say this place is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s really good and sometimes it’s terrible but nothing extra spicy sauce or soy sauce wouldn’t cure. My boyfriends family and I eat from here at least 2 – 3 times a month. In a seedy little corner next to Bodard restaurant that you probably would never notice if someone didn’t point it out to you. Be warned, even though the food is good and cheap, it’s not the cleanest place in the world nor the most sanitary.

I was torn between three and four stars. We come here when we are craving greasy Chinese food. You CAN’T beat the prices. Service is slow though… and when they don’t feel like making something, they tell you they have run out of it. Garlic eggplant — Chinese eggplant with some sort of mushroom/seaweed and ground pork with a sweet brown garlic sauce(5⁄5) — I always get this. Pork with Bamboo shoots — exactly what the name says 3.5÷5 — one of the greasier dishes, but my mom ALWAYS orders this. onion pancake — this is one of the dishes they say they run out of, but they just don’t feel like making it. 5⁄5 — i dip it in sugar. Pan fried dumplings — they fry one side, and it is PERFECT — for ten, you pay like $ 3-$ 4… LOVEIT, and you can’t beat the price. It kills me that you go to fusion restaurants and pay $ 1 per dumpling and they don’t taste nearly as good as the ones here. 5⁄5 Lo mein — at $ 5-$ 6 an order, we ordered four for a potluck we were going to. It was a tad greasy, but a nice potluck idea. The portion was a good size. Service — always slow, but they are nice 2⁄5 Ambiance — 1⁄5 — this is a hole in the wall restaurant, but the prices are awesome.

Hahaha Hunan Plus … cheap food. Totally for poor college kids who eat a lot and have no money and don’t care about service or quality. I miss those days :)

They’re open 7 days a week now – used to be closed on Tuesdays. Also, lunch specials are now $ 3.99, $ 4.35 after tax. It’s still a great deal compared to other places around town.

You’re deep in the heart of chinatown for a reason. It isn’t for the cleanliness and the great service. It is for the greasy, over-sauced CHEAP food. I go here when I have a hungering for old-fashioned Chinese food and when I get sick of Corporate America’s Chinese Panda food. I usually try not to drink water here because it is my believe that all pipes leading to Chinatown is dirty. But other than that… come with a group of friends and get WAY too full family style for about $ 6 a person.
