This Asian market is not the best but not the worst either. They have a meat and fish dept. Large frozen food section. Lots of dry food goods, kitchen & cooking items, noodles, rice fruit and whatever else they can fit into the store. While they have a fairly large tea selection, they didn’t have what I wanted. The coffee selection is comprised of mostly instant G7. Only two ground coffee options which both are not worth the time.

I had to stop here for the name alone, as well as Eddie S.(1.0) vouching for it. Because I am a very mature adult I giggled appropriately at the name. But they don’t sell what you think! Even though the only thing I was thinking when I saw the bright lights illuminating HUNGDONG from the highway was Frank Reynolds’ line from one of the best episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: «Whoops! I dropped my monster condom that I use for my magnum dong.» They don’t sell that here, but thanks for asking. I found this while on a brief frolic and detour from trying to find the Sam Houston Race Park for the Cirque du Soleil and being led astray by Siri for a few turns just within spitting distance of actually finding SHRP — he was promptly put in time out for that freshman move. I wanted to stock up on snacks that could be smuggled into Amaluna a la movie theatre style — I had the pocket depth for some real candy. Unfortunately I walked out empty handed. Nothing caught my fancy. Selection of snacks took a hit for one star and then the overwhelming smell that slaps you in the face as you walk in also reduced it a star. It’s in a huge strip mall and parking is very limited. That might reduce star quality further. But if you use it as a waypoint when you try to find SHRP and Siri is sassin’ you up with wrong directions, it’s a good place to stop and look for snacks. Don’t expect a five star assortment and be ready to become one with the overwhelming stench.

I can’t complain about Hung Dong, I have been going here forever! Asian stores have basically everything you need at a very good price. This location is the closest to my house and as long as it has what I need, I’ll keep coming back. This plaza is building more restaurants also, so that is really convenient. Such as bambu, location location, once I’m done with shopping, I can just walk there! The meat and seafood dept are nice people, treating my grandma very nice, kudos kudos. The cashiers are so nice :) friendly as usually.

If you are not use to it the smell will hit you in the face for the first 5 minutes after that you get use to it.

I’m a little spoiled by the huge supermarkets in Chinatown, and Ranch 99 on I-10, but when I need to pick up a few things close to home, this is my go-to place! They have fresh seafood and a meat market in the back, and a good selection(as far as what I need to get there!). The man who is always at the register is super sweet, always telling me, «See you tomorrow!». The prices are great… it’s a great place to buy some Café du Monde if you love that like I do. It’s much cheaper than a standard grocery store! Tip: Credit cards are accepted, but they have a $ 10 minimum.

If you want a quick in and out store for your Asian foodstuff this place is really great. Being bigger than their 1st location on Veterans allows you more space to navigate your cart, and the items are more organized. Items are usually fresher too, perhaps because there really is no competition within comparable distance, they must move their inventory faster. Also they are conveniently located next to a fast food tofu place, a Mama’s Tapioca Teahouse, and is across the street from another shopping center containing a Kroger’s. Basically you can pick up your American items and your Asian items all in one go, and pick up a to-go dinner or dine in at the many surrounding options. Besides the tofu place there is a Cici’s, Wing-stop, and Taco Cabana.
