Every time I come here the food hurts my stomach. One time me and a couple friends came here and we all went home with«stomach problems» I’ve had food like this before in New York and even though it my not be fair, this place doesn’t even compare. Also the restaurant it self is very rundown and dirty. I’ve only been here twice and do not intend to come back. I’ve heard they’ve had some health violations as well and don’t know if it’s true but it gives me even more incentive to not come here. Try it for yourself I’m not exaggerating.

Best hala I’ve tried in houston. The food is the worth the try and I always recommend lamb over rice with the hala spicy sauce on the side. If you want really want spicy food you need to go to this place. For $ 11 you can get a large, which I barely finish myself, and any drink.

Great fried chicken wings for a great price. Full chicken wing what you get so you get double the amount you would pay at a place that serves wings. Area is not the best but it’s worth venturing here. Ask for the white sauce and if you ask for hot sauce-beware!!! It is spicy and a little goes a long way-delicious!!!

I’ve had their lamb over rice dish 3 times now and it was consistently good. Order large since the price difference makes up for the size. The spicy rice is fire. I wouldn’t try it again since i can’t even handle cream cheese stuffed jalapeños. This place is a hole in the wall. Order take out instead. The drive thru takes a while so just walk in. The driveways are steep. Always ask for extra white sauce!

Late night eatery in sketcky-ish neighborhood. lifesaver for late nights. good halal grub ’til 4am(sun-wed) and 5pm(thurs-sat). Lamb over rice: the bomb. comb; if a genie gave me 3 wishes, I would use 1 to get unlimited instant deliveries of their lamb over rice. Chicken over rice: good if you don’t eat/like lamb. Fries: nothing spectacular. only ordered when needed $ 10+ purchase for card. Rice: can get regular, spicy, or mix. personally like mix(spice from spicy one and more flavor from regular) Hot sauce: super duper spicy(and i love spicy food). comes on side for a reason White sauce: this $!!@ is good. more is better. cover everything in it. Drive-thru: don’t use it. ever. period. unless you want to waste your tank of gas waiting for your food. Used it once and got stuck for 1 hour between 2 cars. Call-ahead: depends. used it 3 times and they didn’t start making my food until i got there. had to wait in the queue 2 times. got my food quickly 1 time. take a chance? Staff: really friendly and fun to talk to while you wait. service can be a bit slow at times. Bottom Line: great for late night munchies and late night(drunk) people watching. Waited in line(sober) too. $ 10 min for credit card.

Glad I went. Sure, it’s a hole in the wall. BUT the Lamb over rice w salad and white sauce… was refreshing and high on the savory notes. Here’s the drill. Park. Walk in. Be greeted by the massive wall of food menu with pictures. Wait in a cafeteria line and give your order. Pay and get your receipt number. Don’t bother with the drink fountain, but seek the refrigerator case. There your beverage(assuming it’s paid for) awaits!

I was a strong believer in jones. Quality has dropped so much. Tons of health code violations which they were caught for RECENTLY. The sauces will make you sick. White makes you feel like dying the red one will literally explode your stomach. Rice is always burnt. Place is a dump. They havent fixed their toilet in about 6 years. Dont do it. In the words of DJKHALED«DONTEVERPLAYYOURSELF» by coming here.

I finally got to try this place last weekend when my roommate suggested it for dinner. She got the lamb over rice and I got the chicken over rice. We also got 2 pieces of fried chicken to try on the side. Lamb/chicken over rice — definitely bigger portions Halal Bros(Austin), they are not stingy with their white sauce, their definition of «spicy» is pretty spicy Fried chicken — definitely a must try, flavor was different from fried chicken that I’ve had in the past Location seems a little sketchy late at night so try going during the daytime.

Had the chicken tenders, not bad at all. French fries were horrible, no flavor at all. My man ordered a Philly cheesesteak, it was so so. Going to come back and try the wings… Maybe it will redeem themselves

I am the first to admit that I am a cheesesteak snob. To the CORE. I lived in Philly for six years and learned quickly that the best cheesesteaks are not only sold in mom and pops but also on the street — Center City, Philadelphia southeast corner near Indepenence Hall to be exact. Now — since moving back to Texas I flat out refused to buy a cheesesteak anywhere. «No way will it be worth the calories» I thought to myself. I am happy to report that now, after 13 years of being back home, I found my cheesesteak haven. I am almost fearful of giving them this much praise because in the past, this usually turns out to be a jinx. But they deserve the praise, and that is where all three stars of this review stop. Two stars deducted because I don’t dig the Soup Nazi attitude at any eating establishment — or any establishment for that manner. Don’t roll your eyes at the blonde girl in line because I ask for you to omit my peppers and onions. I guess you can’t have it all — but I’ll work around the attitudes for my cheesteaks from now on when I have a craving.

Heard about this place from a friend on fb after he checked in n posted a pic of his lamb over rice. Something I’ve been craving for after trying it for the first time in NYC from Halal Guys. It’s not the best but it’s close enough to HG. Good portion for a decent price. I ordered the mix lamb chicken over rice. Their gyro sandwich n fried chicken wings were alright. Until they open a HG in Houston I will definitely come back to jones. *tip: ask for extra white sauce. The red sauce is super spicy. A little bit goes a long way

I used to come here often. It’s the distance. It’s a really good really late, by Houston’s standards, night spot. Their fried chicken wings are some of the best around. I get the lamb over spicy rice with salad. They squeeze white sauce all over it all. It reminds me of true NYC street food. I would know, I am a New Yorker in Texas and used to eat this kind of street food in Manhattan on my lunch break. It can get crowded. They have a drive thru. You can call your order in as well. Check out the photos. I’ll have this tomorrow while I watch Sunday football.

Who knew. A halal place that opens till 5am. I do love me some lamb over rice. If Gyro King is closed, then I know that I can head over here for my lamb rice fix. I obviously haven’t been to the place in NY nor have I been to the one in Austin. Not going to bother to say anything. BUT I have been to Gyro King food truck. This place isn’t as clean or fancy looking as most people would like it to be, but that didn’t phase me. Not too crowded but when I walked in, the place was so foggy, it seemed like there was literally no ventilation. Ordered a large lamb over rice. It can feed two but since I was so hungry, at the time I wanted the large. It is SO different than ordering from Gyro King. The basmati rice was yellow(Gyro king it’s white). There were tomatoes, lettuce, and something that made it tangy that I can’t quite pin point what it was. I didn’t even make a dent since there was so much food. Meat was bigger in portion. It’s really hard to compare because the taste is completely different. Lots of white sauce too. My friend was being lame and got fried shrimp with rice. Not bad. The fried shrimp actually had flavor. As for the fries, tasted like Tony’s seasoning all over that. Didn’t care too much for it. In the end Gyro King has won me over.

I hate to admit that Jones has become a 3 star to me :(I use to love the lamb over spicy rice and have it pretty regularly. Over time, the consistency has been lacking like crazy and they’ve become super particular about everything. they pack in mostly rice, which often is over and under spiced and have been skimping on the meat. I always have so much rice left over. They charge for extra sauce now. I have to say that they have the best flavors for chicken/lamb over rice compared to any other place in town I’ve tried, but that’s if you catch it on a good day!

So after breaking my lamb over rice virginity from Gyro King food truck on OST and Almeda, I found out about Jones fried chicken and had to try it for comparison. I just ordered half lamb half chicken over spicy rice with extra white and red sauce. I love spicy food and consider myself to have a high tolerance but whew the red sauce from Jones is really really really spicy in a good way. I am sweating as I am eating and writing this review. Bottom line, the meats over rice with white and red sauce is GOOT. However I think the meats over rice from Gryo King is just slightly better. Now I’m waiting for Halal Guys to open their brick and mortar location so I can try their meats over rice as well. I can’t wait. They already created a face book page and says they are expecting to open later this year.

Don’t come here expecting New York halal guys level of food, because jones won’t live up to those unreasonably high expectations. Nevertheless, jones is very good halal food by basically any place except New York standards. It’s open late and its undeniably amazing drunk food. Lamb over rice with all that white sauce is my go to order. Spicy sauce on the side because man that spicy red sauce packs one heck of a punch. Use with caution because they don’t give free water here(only bottled water). I’ve tried the fried chicken before but since I’m not a huge fan of fried chicken to start with, I can’t really comment on it without bias. The fried chicken comes with fries or rice. The fried were seasoned and pretty tasty. Overall, it’s cheap, it’s open late, and it’s good food for the soul. Can’t argue with that. Happy eating!

This was my second time here. I wanted to try it again because the first time was so good. LAMBOVERRICE This is my favorite dish here. I don’t know how to describe it. All I can say is that you have to try it for yourself. It’s creamy, acidic, savory, and sweet. All in one bite! Every time I took a bite I just keep going back for more. The only downside about this establishment is the waiting time. People who came after me in the line got their food first and I’m just standing there watching all the food go away. The wait is a bit long, but the food is worth it. Overall experience: I’ll find myself coming back here again I’m sure. The food is great and cheap! The employees are always busy making orders and the wait is unbearable.

My sister has been trying to make me try this for years… And I’ve heard about it but just never was in the mood for it… I finally tried it… It’s pretty good… I can see how some people will crave this. So you all know the good… It’s quick, good, and late night… Here are my cons: –sketchy location and building… It’s a bit dated and doesn’t seem too clean… –employees are a bit rude and don’t seem happy to be there… I hate spending my money at a place where the employees look like they want to shoot me in the face –it was really warm… Like the air conditioner in a cheap persons house… Maybe the like to keep it high to keep people from staying… I hate eating in an establishment t where I’m feeling hot and sweaty. –I hate the seed looking things in the rice… I know it’s a type of spice but I don’t like it… I might try it again… See how it is… Maybe take it Togo

So Jones Fried Chicken finally happened, after all the hype I’ve heard about this halal joint, plus the gf having been blown away by the lamb over rice she had tried in New York. I’ve had no previous halal food experiences to compare with, so I can’t judge on the authenticity of this place. Don’t take me the wrong way when I say that I was pretty disappointed. Main Reason: SPICEOVERLOAD. Yes I’ve heard Halal food involve a lot of spices, but this was completely out of the ball park from what I had expected. The fried chicken wings I ordered literally tasted like someone had dumped a bowl of spices onto it, not to mention the meat was pretty dry as well. My mouth turned into a SALTLICK after 2 or 3 wings. The Lamb over rice was barely passable. Not that I like lamb to begin with, but I also hate my food being drenched in sauce. Even with the sauce on the side, everything else(rice, meat, and veggies) were already pretty moist. After stirring the sauce in, it all just felt like one big, wet, slimy mess in my mouth. The gf was terribly disappointed as well because it didn’t taste anywhere close to the lamb over rice she had in New York. Then you’ve got the restaurant itself, which was pretty run down, shady and ghetto looking. Not to mention the intense and overwhelming smell of spices that clung onto my clothes and hair after I was inside for about only 15 minutes. Not a very good overall experience.

First order was spicy chicken over rice and white sauce. I didn’t like it at all. Chicken was not cooked well and it smelled. I was disappointed by their food & thought I wasn’t going to eat there. However, that was wrong. This time, I ordered spicy lamb over rice and white sauce. It was spicy, but it was real good. The lamb didn’t smell and it was cooked properly. The spicy lamb was better than chicken! I would definitely come again for the lamb dish.
