Joshua’s Native Plants & Garden Antiques

I visited this place today because it was close to Teotihuacan and I fell in love! Lots and lots of native plants and trees and plenty of cactus and succulents. I found a specific succulent that I was looking for and there were plenty of pots to choose from to put my new plant into. Joshua’s also carries Talavera items that will keep me coming back.

Went there today after stopping at a different nursery. They had all sorts of plants, succulents, pots & other fun stuff. Their prices were lower then the other place we visited but seemed to have just as nice & healthy plants, just not a gigantic selection.
We live in Cypress and would rather come here then Home Depot or Lowe’s for plants. I’m not sure of the selection of other garden/​outdoor items. We needed any killer & they didn’t carry that.

I had done a search for another nursery and Joshua’s popped up as well. I researched both places & decided on both. My Valentine’s request was instead of flowers, to go herb shopping w/​my husband for my herb garden. Found herbs like spearmint, peppermint, different thymes, rosemary, oregano, cilantro, fennel and more. Many different plants that I had never seen or hadn’t seen in a long time. Star Jasmine, Japanese Maple, shrimp plant, dwarf bottle brush and Laura Bush petunia were some of my faves among the variety of what they had. Even found three, 3″ pots of Texas Bluebonnets to transplant into my garden. Then I found the succulents! I love rocks, cactus, clay and easy care. We love the desert and mountains of the southwest and I was in heaven. They had many new-​to-​me tiny sized up to med/​larger succulents. They had a few cactus/​rock gardens for sale/​display that were great for ideas as well as purchase. Prices were reasonable and comparable. (See pics). I fell in love w/​the only Royal Red euphorbia trigona they had & found the perfect pot for it as well. (See pic). Will definitely be back and soon!

Joshua’s is a nice place, however I found it very confusing as only some things were marked with price and plant info and some were not. I spent half my time there trying to figure out what everything was and how much it cost… they had a good selection, but in my opinion Buchanan’s nearby has a lot more. They have some cool antique stuff and garden décor, and the staff were very friendly.

It is my favorite place to find plants in Houston, just to wander through their selection is exciting! Always have something different to try plus all my tried and true favorites. Joshua and his crew greet you like an old friend, are knowledgeable and the prices are good.

I came here for the succulents and was greeted with friendly and passionate staff who clearly love what they do. I was wheeling around my delicate succulents in the red wagons they have for customer use and one of the staff members noticed that the plants kept tipping over, so he got me a plastic carton to keep all my plants standing upright. Very observant of them! I had a chance to look around a bit and noticed an awesome variety of some really unusual plants.
What I liked best about this place is that all the staff there seemed to be happy doing what they did. I wasn’t greeting with the typical monotone «If you have any questions let me know,» I was welcomed with a resounding boom from a man in a gardening-​hat: «If you need help, you come ask me.» That was nice of him. Shop here for the plants and for the smile you will have on your face when you leave.

Visited Joshua’s at the suggestion of my daughter & son-​in-​law who have bought flowers and bushes to landscape their newly constructed home in the Heights. I found the nursery had all kinds of plants that many nurseries in the Houston-​Galveston area do not stock. The selections are outstanding and price for their plants and trees are very reasonable. I visited the nursery for the first time 11÷01÷12 and bought 2 well-​formed trees in 35 gallons containers, and a volcano and gold duranta bush. Those who served me were friendly and helpful. It’s about 35 mile drive one way from my house in Texas City to Joshua’s but I will be shopping there soon for my fall and winter garden needs.

This place is adorable! I love it.
I’ve recently moved into my first house and was in desperate need of an affordable, yet nice looking plant to put in the flower box in the front yard. Being that I’m in The Heights now, I jumped on the Unilocal machine and looked up what my pals had to say about nurseries in the area.
We ended up going to a couple other nurseries first, and we were really let down. Joshua’s didn’t have many reviews, but we decided to check it out.
It was so unassuming. Located on a the corner of a residential street, it’s kind of hard to spot as a business actually. But it was a true oasis. Unlike the other nurseries, it wasn’t sprawling and hot. It was cozy and homey. Underneath a canopy of trees and greenery, I felt like it was how ever nursery ever should feel.
The prices were really great. We got really big, nice plants to fill up the flower box for a under $ 20, including a bag of soil.
The guys that work here are very nice and really know a lot about the plants. I only remarked to my husband how pretty a tree that was growing on the edge of the property. The guy working there started to tell me the name of the tree and that it blossomed 3 times a year. He told me several other random facts through out the visit. But don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t following me around or anything. Actually, my husband and I felt like we were alone in our private world. I loved how intimate and unique the experience was.
I honestly don’t think I can shop at any other nursery now. This place made me feel like I was Wendy from Peter Pan.

Strange and wonderful and not entirely planet bound, it varies day to day.
He apparently sells a lot of the junk, but I wish he would concentrate on the plants as he really does know his stuff.
A word of warning; weekends in the spring are mobbed and difficult and if you need a lot of plants or soil, call ahead and order it, he gets regularly cleaned out.
It is a small place, do not expect the mega mart experience but for quirky neighborhood Houston it is an ideal spot.

Joshua’s is a mecca for plant and pottery. Joshua and his team are extremely helpful and friendly by assisting customers with plant choices and will give you great advice on what plants to buy according to sun/​shade capability.
For some reason, plants purchased at Joshua’s grow better than those purchased from other Houston garden centers… this makes Joshua’s a better investment choice for your home garden IMO.

If you need a plant and don’t want a boring vinca, marigold, or coleus, THIS is the place to find exactly what you need or didn’t know you wanted. The nursery itself is a walk through a maze of native (read: can grow in our lovely sub-​tropic region) plants I had never seen or smelled. There was a couple of sweet olive trees whose scent wafted through the nursery… I kept wondering where on my tiny balcony I could negotiate a space for a rather large shrub.
Once I found two plants I COULD find space for (a thai basil and a staghorn fern), I set them down near the register so I could wander more easily amongst the antiques in the store in back.
This place is very eclectic, very «heights,» and a very good place to lose half a day in, leaving with something wonderful and rather inexpensive.
