I will have to give it a one star because of the poor customer service. I had placed an order over the phone a taco and quesadilla. I walked in and picked up my ticket from the kitchen so I could pay it at the register. I noticed the sweet Mexican bread and made up my mind to buy some bread. I noticed one of the employees eating lunch and I patiently kept waiting. The phone rang and that employee got up and answered the phone. I still remained ignored. When she finished writing the phone to-go order, she greeted me and asked me to wait. At that moment I was upset by the poor service and I told her it was rude to prioritize the phone and keep customers waiting. Her excuse of ignoring me is that she was eating and walked away. Two more employees came from the back and neither one of them paid attention to me either. I then asked which one of them could help me with my order and one of them finally said she’d help me. I tried going back to the restaurant and speaking to the owner and was told she wasn’t there, though her car was outside. Overall, La Victoria offers good food, service is extremely poor.

I love this place I come often where they know my name even my voice. But today I order my regular and it was very disappointing. Very. Every other thumbs up. Maybe somebody was having a bad day. The food was awful.

Ok the positive pan dulce is good however unfortunately the negative out weighs my opinion here. The negative absolutely no customer service they are very indifferent as if you don’t exist. Secondly the wait is always at least 30 minutes in my experience. Once you get food it might be warm it may not. If you call in you still will wait just as long, place is dirty needs a really good cleaning yuck never again. I hope someone who understands English reads these reviews and lets them know they have been there too long to not do better

After hearing about this establishment for many, many years, I finally ventured in today for some breakfast tacos to go. I was extremely disappointed. For all its notariety, it exuded a lack of pride. It was dirty the customer service was poor and the food was less than mediocre. I ordered 6 small breakfast tacos which took about 30 minutes to finally get with very few customers in the store! The floor had clearly not been swept or mopped. I was told my coffee would be brought to me since a fresh pot had to be put on. TWO pots later, I had to remind them because the employee that told me this had gone to the back, not passed along this details and was visibly busy texting in the back. The empty bins and shelves were not impressive and the dirty dicer in the front corner of the counter was pretty gross. It didn’t help that the employee bagging our food wiped her runny nose with her bare fingers! After this initial impression, I hoped that at least the food would blow me away. But, I was let down there too. The chorizo was horrible tasting and the potatoes and machacado were average. The tortillas were soft and tasted good.

All I have to say is this place is way overpriced for the tiny portions and bland flavor. Not to mention, when I got my food, it was pretty room temp. Which can only mean that it wasn’t made when I ordered it but instead, sitting there on a steam table. I’m sure just 2 blocks away, there is a place with better food at a better price.

La Victoria Bakery is a southeast Houston gem(located in Pecan Park, my old hood). Run by a pair of sisters who live in the area, this is not your typical panaderia(Mexican bakery). Why? Because these gals not only produce great traditional pastries but also incredible cakes and some of the best eats in the area. Regarding classic Mexican pastries, they’re sweet confectionery perfection … but when it comes to cakes, these ladies can throw down. I’m not talking about those 1 sheeter cakes with the white buttercream frosting and the tacky blue rose decorations. These cakes could and should be featured on a Food Network special. We’re talking about art people! Let the gals at La Victoria dream up something fantastic for your next event or come in with a special request. I once ordered a huge baby shower cake to match the«pea in a pod» theme on the invitation for a friend’s party. Not only did the cake match the invite perfectly, it was absolutely delicious(a white layer cake featuring raspberry and lemon filling). Their work with the fondant was pure artistry. And now onto the kitchen… can you say YUM? The ladies in the kitchen may not be the friendliest folks on the planet but they mean business. Place your order and quietly wait, you’ll be happy you did. The flautas — delicious, crisp, just the way your momma use to fry em up for you when you were a kiddo. The green sauce… somebody give me an IV of the stuff… and the enchildads — to die for. As noted in the other review, it’s a pretty utilitarian space so don’t expect the Taj Mahal or anything like that. La Victoria isn’t about«ambiance», it’s all about the food. So do yourself a favor and venture down Lawndale Street to the little bakery around the corner. One taste and you’ll know it was worth the trek.

I’ll be honest I haven’t eaten here in well over a year, more like two. Parking is okay, they have a little space, but it fills up fairly quickly. The main thing is this is they have the slowest service known to man. I know some of you have been to slow places, but this place will make you walk away and leave your food, paid for and everything. So, why the four stars – these somewhat rude little ladies, who mostly only converse in Spanish, know how to cook. I am not sure how they feel about called in orders, while I was there I saw a lot of people picking up orders, i feel this is the only way to go. They have great tamales around the holiday season, they are slightly more expensive than some regular places, I think about $ 14.00 a dozen but they are excellent. The tortillas are really good too. The gorditas are made slightly different, but still good, they add lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado to the pocket. I have only had the quevos rancheros for breakfast here it was very runny looking but delicious and so is there caldo. They are essentially a Mexican bakery and make really fancy looking cakes. I haven’t tried them, but the results look pretty good. Some of their bakery items are very tasty, I think better than the Del Sol Taqueria bakery, but also a little more expensive. If I still lived on this side of town I would probably eat here at least a few times a month. The atmosphere is kind of drab, but very clean, drinks are mostly of the bottled cokes and juice variety and plain coffee. The area is not very scenic.
