Next to a tire shop, this place is a gem! you find yourself anywhere close, make sure you get there. Run by a gentleman Santana(who also teaches high school) and his family — its like going to eat at his home. Amazingly simple, amazingly awesome — doesn’t matter what you order. There is no tacos, no burritos, just tortas! and they are awesome. Of the 4 days we were around, we ate there 3 times.

The dining area is clean, and you can walk up and watch them prepare your food. They offer tons of named sandwiches, and enough meat and toppers you can make your’s uniquely your own.(If you are disappointed, it may be lack of imagination.) The double-milanesa was hot, well seasoned and decadent. They chop the milanesa which makes handling much easier. I asked for«crema» on mine, which let to my only disappointment… they had none… mayo only. The menu could be made more user friendly as it took longer to «digest» it than it did to get my food. They have«flair» on the walls that give it that homey, local vibe including one that may become my new mantra.

I have been living in Houston for 28 yrs. I have gotten used to mediocre«Mexican» food. I was attracted to name, Tortas Perronas, made me laugh and recall how the word Perrona was used in Mexico City growing up. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner(sorry, I forgot your name) he immediately commented on my smile and asked if it was from reading the stickers and notices in the restaurant. I said yes, it was reaching to see something so authentic from home. We talked for a little, he took my order with such joy. OMG, I hid my face when I bit into my Double Milanesa torta, because I got emotional. I don’t have strong ties to Mexico anymore, so I haven’t been back for 28 yrs. when I bit into my torta, I was transported to my childhood, my memories came to me with the sounds of the Tiangis(mercado/farmers markets) the smells, the tastes. I felt a little jolt in my heart and felt like I was back home. My son had the Gringa, cannot be matched by any other place and my husband had the Abandonada, it was the best of all. The Aguas frescas were so delicious, hair lielbones my mom and Tias used to make! I was genuinely surprised, great food, great atmosphere and service was fast! Will be back for sure!

Fantastic!!! The service was impeccable, the man behind the counter explained everything about the sandwiches, the region of Mexico where they come from(Mexico City) and why he’s never eaten a fajita. We all had different tortas and shared them, equally loving them all. We’ll be back, again and again. Love this local gem!

I haven’t had a lot of tortas, but I have had a lot of American style sandwiches and I must say that the Colorada is in the top 5 of any sandwich I’ve had in my short adult life, although I imagine that any sandwich from here is delicious. I asked which sandwich I should choose between a couple options and the pretty lady up front said the Colorada was ordered more often; I always appreciate a fact-based answer! Will bring my friends to this great hole in the wall next time I’m in Houston.

Pros: Clean facility Friendly staff Available parking Cons: Their food is bland. Maybe that’s just the nature of Tortas. My boyfriend and I went here for lunch on Saturday and had high expectations based on reviews. I had the chicken torta and he had the supreme cubana or something like that. Basically had a ton of meat on it. Definitely have to dip it in the sauce they provide. We ordered jalepeno but they gave us chipotle dipping sauce. Don’t get me wrong, the food is definitely edible and they prepare it in front of you. But I feel like it’s one of those things you could make just as good at home, if not better depending on your seasoning and toppings. Probably won’t be returning. Decent prices, ate here for less than $ 10 for two sandwiches. Just not a big fan.

This is by far the best hole in the wall ever! Their Tortas are beyond delicious and they make them right in front of you! I’ve eaten Tortas everywhere, and these by far are the best tasting. The owner(Santana) had great Hospitality and treated us like family. Me and my girlfriend enjoyed the Hawaiana, La Norteña y La Tejana. The flavors were perfect for all three. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stopping by and getting you one! You won’t be disappointed, simply spectacular Tortas!

Finally! A different kind of Mexican joint! This place is not for the vegans or health-conscience eaters. This is some good ‘ol dirty Mexico City-style grub. Half of the fun is reading the funny names of the different kind of tortas(sorry non-Spanish speakers, translations would never do them justice). The tortas are big, as are the cups of aguas frescas. And you get a free bag of chips with your order. The tortas are adequately stuffed and very tasty. Definitely adding this modest Mexican joint to my list of go-to lunch places.

I’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints. I love the food so much. It’s an instant favorite and they do everything well. I come here frequently because it’s right down the street from my office but who can argue with food this good? Really, I dare someone to prove me wrong.

First time visitor, won’t be the last. Place offers extensive tortas options, all elements prepared in house. Flavorful meats over creamy beans in warm and crunchy bread. Definitely say yes to their red sauce. You’re lucky if Santana is the one ringing you up, friendly and funny guy who can help you navigate all the options. Highly recommended.

Fantastic hole in the wall! The owner is a true service oriented person and will personally make sure your meal is nothing short from extraordinary. Make sure you get the Cuban! It is a packed torta with lots of scrumptious meat and sure to get you nice and full. Great experience overall!

Hands down the best Torta I have had in Houston. I work in Mexico City and this rivals any that I have had down there.

WOW, And I thought I knew Tortas! This place is amazing. They have raised a simple sandwich into a gourmet symphony of flavor! I’m used to the delicious food truck Torta. This place is in another galaxy. They start with artisan bread which is both thinner and crispier than the typical Houston Torta. They then paint a masterpiece of flavor by combining a variety of harmonious flavored meats, cheeses and peppers on the canvas of artisan bread. Do yourself a kindness and try it. Wow!

Las Tortugas serves delicious tortas! I recently tried the Perrona — sliced ham, pierna(pork leg) and milanesa(breaded beef), and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. I loved that the cheese was EXTRA melty on top of my meats. I was a bit hesitant at first about the pierna, but it ended up being my favorite of the three meats. It was tender shredded pork, and the cheese and super soft bread made a perfect bite. My torta was loaded with lots of creamy avocado. I opted for chipotle peppers over jalepenos and it was the right amount of spice and sauce without making the bread fall apart. I tried a pineapple agua fresca and it was OK. The fruit wasn’t quite sweet enough. In the summer when the fruits are in season, I’m sure the agua frescas will be great. My husband gets the Cubana usually, and he says he likes the tortas from Las Tortugas better than from Las Llardas. I’m not sure if I’d go that far, but it’s a close call. The interior is really nice. You order at the counter, and there are a few metal tables to sit at. Overall it is small, but clean. There are some funny signs around in Spanish that will make you chuckle if you know any Spanish curse words or idioms.

This small restaurant on Bingle can be easy to pass by without noticing it. Come and eat here and then you won’t accidentally pass it by in the future. The owner greets you when entering and is very friendly and helpful. His attitude is like thanking you for stopping by and I want you to be satisfied. On my first visit I had the Hawaiian torta with a drink. I really liked it. Nice sized sandwich with tasty ham, porkcop and pineapple(of course) on good bread. I came back a week later to go for the super cubana that had included frank’s as one of the meats. It was also very good and filling. I liked both of them. The interior has indoor seating at two elevated benches, one table and then seating along the wall. This is a very casual restaurant that would be conducive to take out however you can eat here. If you like a good torta, you will like coming here. I give this place a 4 because I am a fan!

Was in the area and this place intrigued me based on Unilocal(hurray!) and my love for tortas(most of my experience from various taquerias around Houston).The lady behind the counter was super helpful and gave recommendations, of which I chose the hawaiana torta and watermelon juice for my drink. The torta was cooked in front of me to order, and the pineapple slices were the perfect foil for the meats and chipotle sauce slathered on top. The drink reminded me of vacationing in Cancun and spending the day drinking various fruit juices and hanging on the beach. Took off a star as I thought refried beans, veggies, etc were supposed to come with my torta, but I couldn’t find any on or around it, aside from the avocado on my torta. If they’re NOT supposed to, then the torta itself may be slightly overpriced(yes, I’m spoiled with taqueria tortas). Still recommend this spot;

It’s small, it’s friendly, it’s funny and it’s reasonable, it’s The Turtles… er es los tortugas y no estoy hablando de los artistas entiende guey? The owner is a very informative, funny and friendly guy. He will at all costs try to advise you what they sell best, what he thinks you will like and description of each ingredients that is served to you. The place is darkly lit at night so be careful when you’re entering or leaving. It’s small inside and noisy but once you get past all of that you’ll have a pleasant taste bud party. There are some of us that are used to sit down restaurants where people come to you but this counter service is really ok. Some of the tables are wobbly but you can sit at a counter for sturdier eatings. For your drinks they have Aguas Frescas along with a few other drinks you might be comfortable with. The menu is self explanatory and it is one of those where you have to kind of step back and read, no «in hand» menus when I was there. You might be hard up to pass this place since it’s very inconspicious but give it a try and you’ll remember your experience forever whenever you are in the area. P. S. Owner is not responsible for your over dosage calorie count here, you have been warned.

Las Tortugas is DELICIOUS! The staff was super patient and explained the menu. Of the 20 plus options, which are described in Spanish first and English second, you can opt to create your own. The ingredients are fresh. The bread is kind of thin compared to tortas I have had, and crisped on the grill to a buttery deliciousness. This bread is a perfect vehicle to serve whatever ingredients you choose, be it beef, pork, ham, egg. All sandwiches come with avocado, onion, beans and cilantro. These sandwiches can become an addiction. This place is worth trying out!
