Opens at 6am and has breakfast tacos to go! I used to come here between 6 – 6:45am during the workweek for breakfast tacos to go. The earlier I came the less likely there was a line. When there was a line, it was mostly guys looking like they were in construction of some sort. I always found a parking space in the main parking lot, though there is more parking across the side street. For breakfast you walk through the serving line and tell the ladies what you want. At the cashier you can request salsa, and order your drink. Then I would sit down at a table until they brought me my coffee. I’d add in my sugar and cream(from the little creamer pods, not fresh, my only complaint) and then I’d be on my way. I definitely recommend for a more«authentic» taqueria for breakfast tacos!

What a great place if you enjoy freshly made Mexican breakfast. I went in after reading another Unilocal review and left a returning customer. The place is very small with about 20 tables and a staff of a few servers. The food was delicious and made very fresh. I highly recommend the chiquales for anyone looking for something with a kick to it. The onions and jalepnos give this dish a unique taste. The breakfast comes with tortillas, beans and fries, which you should substitute for rice. All in all it was a friendly place that had homemade, good Mexican breakfast. If you make it in before 10 am the breakfast is $ 4.78 after tax. It’s a steal for anyone in the neighborhood.

«Yay! I’m a fan.» As a third generation Houstonian, this is what we look for in our hole-in-the-wall Tex-Mex. No, it’s not fancy. It’s fresh and it hits the spot. Every meal starts with a bowl of chips, red and green salsa. The red salsa is always served warm, which I really like. It is the kind of salsa that has larger chunks of tomato and the juices from the sliced up items. The green salsa is the spicier, more finely-blended option. I still have not made up my mind about these two and typically switch from salsa-to-salsa on every chip. Some days the green is a little too spicy for me, so I skip on it. Most plates come with a variety of items. I typically get enchiladas with a taco and tostada. I can’t eat that much so the enchiladas are eaten later. All of the veggies are fresh, which I appreciate. I also like that when I sit at the bar while picking up a To Go order, I have never heard any signs of a microwave coming from the kitchen(there’s a window between the bar and kitchen). The rice is pretty boring so I usually only eat a little. I like the refried beans. I do like the breakfast tacos, but am rarely up by 10 on the weekend, when I feel like eating them. They have these fried potato bits that I love. If you are an out-of-towner that is renting a condo down the street, you probably won’t like this. And that’s okay. Maybe you’ll like something like Torchys. PSA: Texas guac is mostly avocado, with little seasoning. When I lived in Cali, this was my trademark dish for parties because everybody was in love with it and always said how much better it tasted than what they ate at restaurants. Nobody believed it was only 3 ingredients. Avocado with a little upgrade. All the salsa, onions, jalapenos, and other junk that are typically added in are fillers because avocados are kind of pricey and not always ripe(ex: this is how they serve it at bad fast food places like TacoCabana — there’s your sign). If you want salsa in your guac, take a spoonful of salsa and mix. Voila! Want jalapenos in it? Get a side of jalapenos and stir together. Watch everybody else at your table enjoy their jalapeño-free guac that allows them to actually taste the avocado. Want pepper on it? Like magic, there’s a pepper shaker on the table! You can even disco dance while you shake, shake, shake. Bonus: They have one TV at the bar and it never has on ESPN. NEVER! :) I absolutely adore this. It’s typically on light local news and the occasional big futbol game. Perfect. Keep doing what you’re doing, Dos Amigos. PS– writing this inspired me to run down the street to grab some for lunch. I had the #2, which is the Thursday Lunch special for a little over $ 7: 2 enchiladas(pick your filling), rice, beans, tostada, and ground beef taco.

Together with a small group of friends, I decided to check this place out and hopefully enjoy some delicious Sunday brunch. Unfortunately, the food and service was lackluster. Chips and salsa(red and green) were placed on our table. The chips were very stale and chewy not crisp and fresh as you would expect. The salsas were watered down. They were quickly set aside. Two of my friends decided to order the chilaquiles. The plate consisted of crispy tortilla chips mixed with sauce, cheese, and two scrambled eggs. My friend asked if she could have the eggs cooked over easy and placed on top of the chilaquiles, instead of scrambled and mixed in. The waitress said that she would have to order the plate without eggs, then order a side of eggs as a side order(paid extra). The food itself was mediocre at best. I ordered the huevos rancheros which arrived cold, and with the same watered down red salsa set on the table. One of the eggs was overcooked with a solidified yolk. The beans were okay. We asked the waitress for our check and she gave us our total. I gave the cashier my card and asked for a receipt. She asked my why I needed a receipt. Since they don’t accept separate checks, I needed the itemized receipt so we can divide the costs between our friends on our own after brunch. She ripped the itemized copy from her stack of papers and said«whatever, here you go». The service was bad, the food was bad. I’m sorry, please scratch this restaurant off your list. There are many more tex-mex restaurants in the neighborhood that serve spectacular food with friendly service. This isn’t one of them.

This was exactly what I expected. I have driven by this place many times after eating at El Tiempo(which I love). I was eating solo today and didn’t have much time. The service was great, food came fast and was the sloppy type of Tex-Mex that I expected. I had cheese enchiladas with fried eggs. I’ll be back. This place was reasonably priced and hit the spot.

Why are there so many letdowns in Houston? Whether high end, hole in the wall, ethnic, whatever? I’m getting so frustrated. The«guacamole» was just avocado mashed up — no salt even added. Got the #2 with chicken enchiladas — the sauce tasted watered down. The beans were good — taco and chalupa were eh. The salsas brought with dinner were mediocre at best. But not going to go back somewhere just for the beans. Please people of Houston — travel outside Houston and eat elsewhere so you don’t give these places such good reviews. You don’t even have to go that far. Dallas and Austin will suffice.

Very bland food. The salsas were very plain. The guacamole was just avocado. The enchilada sauce tasted like someone had taken 1 part thanksgiving gravy, 10 parts water, and added flour to thicken it. Need to find some better Mexican places in Houston. Tacoa Tierra Caliente is still my favorite — I just didn’t want to eat standing to tonight. But I will gladly go there and stand then come here and sit. Actually on my way there now.

This place is near our house and as I had an enchilada craving, my boyfriend suggesting trying this place as it’s been on his bookmarks for a while. He ordered the suiza chicken enchiladas and I ordered cheese enchiladas with the fried egg on top. I was definitely disappointed in both dishes. Nothing flavor wise stood out and it definitely didn’t hit my enchilada craving. The only good thing this place has going for them is that they’re cheap, but it won’t have me returning. Too bland for my taste and I need something that will definitely hit my cravings.

I had a cheap breakfast meal along with some salsa. The place was busy, but the service was friendly and quick. The warm salsa was great, the guacamole looked amazing and was being ordered by numerous other tables, and everything on my plate was very tasty.

This place is walking distance from my house, and it has saved my life and the lives of my friends several times with its delicious greasy breakfast tacos and salsa. The place is a little dirty, but it’s cheap as hell and the lunch/dinner food is decent. We don’t go there for dinner anymore because it garnered the nickname«Los Deuce» for the awful smells you make afterward.

First time here, I was looking for good breakfast tacos in the area. I looked up Unilocal for reviews. I found good reviews so my boyfriend and I decided to come. Small place, but seems to have good authentic Mexican food. I ordered the flour egg/chorizo/potato tacos(w shredded cheese) I loved them! My boyfriend really liked the homemade flour tortillas! The tomatillo green salsa was really good. We will definitely come back and try other plates…

I stopped in for lunch today. I started with some nachos which were just the chips, beans, cheese and jalapenos. They were individually prepared, which I love. I hate that most places call a big pile of stuff nachos. I enjoy getting some of everything on every chip. For my main course I had the Carnitas Los Dos Amigos. These were really good. They came out sizzling hot on a cast iron plate the way fajitas are often served. The pork was tender and flavorful. I would definitely get it again. I ordered a diet coke, and it came in a can. While I guess that’s ok, but I much prefer fountain soda. My lunch overall was really good, and I plan on going back to try more of their specials.

Saw the reviews and price and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. They start you off with a nice chunky mild red(homemade?) and spicy verde salsa. The service was quick and the food filling with a spicy/garlicy red sauce that could go on almost anything. Not a five star restaurant, but good and tasty mexican food. Not a place to go for the décor, go to get full. If you are looking for the best bang for your buck this one the places to go. You will definitely leave will a full tummy.

Still one of my favs for an old school Tex Mex breakfast. My new discovery is Huevos Divorciados. Two fried eggs, one with red sauce, one with green. Best of both worlds. Served with beans, potato, and tortillas, you can make your own breakfast tacos.

Sometimes, things hidden in plain sight would be better hidden under a metric ton of rubble. Six Choir Guy convinced me to meet for dinner here since it is smack dab in the middle of the gentrified Washington Avenue bar zone, which did not bode well. All told, I think the people who think this place is the cat’s pajamas are: (1) those who are stumbling drunk from one of the Washington Avenue bars, (2) those who remember eating here many years ago when Houston had 1⁄20th of the Tex-Mex options, or (3) those whose taste buds have been nullified by exposure to a nuclear blast. Décor is tired with what appears to be homemade curtains and fake flowers as window treatments. Service is meted out by two ladies who appear to be sisters but whose operating philosophy is «What me, worry?» I’d expect such lackluster energy from small-town Texas or a place serving up exceptional food.(This place was neither.) Food: I had the carne asada dinner which was boring, bland, and not worth its pricing. I probably could have made a better dish at home. Six’s dinner had been ordered with fries but the entrée plate first came without — at first, Six wondered if the lady heard him wrong but then she reappeared two minutes later with a separate plate with the fries on it. Needless to say, the extra two minutes did not improve the original meal or present stupendous fries on its showcase plate. Ore-Ida, is that you? The final sprinkle on this sundae of sadness was that, on our way out to the car, a scruffy man on a bicycle rode past us and yelled out: «Best Mexican food in the city!» Talk about being an anti-spokesman. Bottom line: No, no, no señor. Save your cash by heading elsewhere.

My mom always said, «Never judge a book by its cover.» Well that can be applied to restaurants too… never judge a restaurant that looks like it would give you food poisoning without giving the food a chance! I love this place; they have some of the best Huevo Rancheros around! On Sunday morning it is crazy hard to get in here even though it looks sketchy. I like the nachos too and their enchilada’s with fried eggs are super fave! YUM! It reminds me of small restaurants in Mexico, with TV Novellas on, a fan to keep the temperature cool and hearty good food. The crowd ranges from urban hip to some South of the Border folks.

A few weeks before the 2012 Houston Press Best of Houston list was published, I finally made my way to Los Dos Amigos after reading about them on the 2011 list. The place is small, but they managed to seat customers quickly without too much of a wait. Of course we ordered the cheese enchiladas topped with a fried egg, and we also got a few of their breakfast tacos. The cheese enchiladas with the egg were good, but I didn’t feel like the plate was any better than so many of the other small Tex-Mex diners in the area. The 3 tacos I got were potato, machacado, and chorizo, each with egg. All 3 were good, but the machacado was probably the best, with tender beef and a great tortilla. I’m glad to have eaten here, but I don’t necessarily agree Houston Press’ ranking. My own search to complete a personal ‘Best of Houston’ list continues.

This very small restaurant is tiny compared to the size of everything on Washington Avenue. Don’t be afraid though. The tortillas used in their enchiladas really hold their shape unlike so many failures I’ve had over the years at other Mexican food establishments. Try the enchiladas topped with a fried eggs. It elevates the meal to you making sex noises as you gobble it up. The silkiness of the yolk with the beans and the nice thick consistency of the tortillas is absolutely divine. My only qualm is the flour tortillas with their other platters. I’ve eaten enough fresh, homemade tortillas to know which came out of a bag, or were already pre-cooked. So close. Regardless, I’m looking forward to slowly trying all the items on their menu.
