I have eaten yuca root and Bandeja paisa several times. I’ve always enjoyed it. I never get tired of the same dish. Venue is consistently crowded on work day lunch hour. My next meal here will be the Lengua a la Criolla(broiled beef tongue in a house sauce served with rice, sweet plantain, salad and yuca root) with Guanabana jugo con leche(Jackfruit juice with milk). A friend shared some last time and the beef tongue is tender and full of flavor.

I come here just to get the Lengua a la Criolla(broiled beef tongue in a house sauce served with rice, sweet plantain, salad and yuca root) with Guanabana jugo con leche(Jackfruit juice with milk). The beef tongue is tender and full of flavor and you got to try their jugo con leche. Good service and nice staff. I come here alot and never get tired of the same dish. The food comes out excellent every time.

I was excited to try the empanadas here. A place with empanada in the name must have awesome empanadas right? Wrong. I ordered one beef and one chicken. The first bite of the chicken was chewy and unpleasant. A handy napkin took care of disposing that. Gamely, i tried a second bite, hoping the filing would be savory enough to overcome the wrapping. No go. Gingerly i attempted a very tiny third bite. Sigh. Not happening. Couldn’t bring myself to even attempt the beef. The chimicurri sauce was watery and uninspiring. Two stars for an authentic ambience.

I was in the area mid-afternoon and had some time to kill, so I popped in. Even at an awkward hour, the place had a consistent crowd(both dine in and take out). I ordered the papaya juice, chicken mole empanada and ham and cheese empanada. The service was a little slow, but when the food came it was great. The juice was nice and refreshing and the empanada was freshly made with wonderful crunch and lots of filling. I’ll definitely be back and I’ll have to try the full played they have, as well.

Empanadas are always delicious! Was my second choice today but I’m never disappointed when I come here! I recommend the columbianas and the Tia Maria! Absolutely yummy!

I’ve been twice to try and get a good feel for the place as it is near where I get my hair done. This time I got a cheese empanada, the sabroso and a ½ order of maduros(sweet platains). The filling of the sabroso was tasteless and oily. I was shocked and ended up throwing it out. The plain cheese was passable, but only barely. The crust was nice but not a good enough reason to buy an empanda. If I am eating a hand pie, I want the whole thing to taste great! I was most offended by the plantains which were pretty and dark but lukewarm and somehow tasted oily and flat. I’m Nigerian and I know my way around fried plantains and I was totally disappointed in what I got. They are quite friendly and I wonder if their other traditional dishes/sweets are better but I won’t be back to try it. Hard pass from me.

I had just tried the empanadas at The Original Marini’s Empanada House and thought this was the same business… Well, compared to Marini’s on westheimer, this place was quite terrible!!! The quality of food is just bad! One of my empanadas had a bone in it! Will never come here again. Go to The Original Marini’s Empanada House for good empanadas.

Awesome Columbian food and empanadas. I recommend the bandeja de paisa. Can’t go wrong with any empanadas and also get the monkey juice.

Went to this restaurant because my wife likes it. I order the bandeja paisa which come with beans, rice, one egg, pork belly, piece of meat and a sausage link. It was great. I also order some empanadas Colombianas can’t complain about the food it was great. Now the waitress we had that evening. She spent most of her time sitting behind the counter on her phone. Also the water at the restaurant taste amazing must be reverse osmosis.

Turned in on a whim while driving down Hillcrroft looking for lunch. I was hoping this was a branch of The Original Marni’s Empanadas… to be clear, it is not. That said, I had no complaints and enjoyed an affordable meal with friendly service. I ordered the poblana sabrosa(meh) and the spinach empanadas for about $ 2.60 each. Both decent and served pretty quickly. I also had the dulce de leche to go, which was a LOT to handle, so make sure you really like sweets before ordering. They have a wide variety on their menu, but prices are good even for bigger dishes like the mondongo(they serve mondongo!!!) and arroz con pollo. I plan to come back and try some of these dishes. I was there around 2 on a Friday, and it was almost full. Everyone inside was a Spanish speaker, and Spanish broadcasts were playing on the TVs. I was in heaven, as it let me practice my Spanish(with a lovely, patient waitress) and reminded me of my time abroad. That said, menus are in English and I feel confident that the servers would be able to accommodate English if you weren’t able to address them in Spanish(though I don’t technically know). 3 stars for food, 4 for service and atmosphere. You won’t lose out by skipping this place, but it’s not a bad place to stop.

This is a neat, clean and friendly restaurant. However, the food is some of the lowest quality I have ever eaten. While I’m sure their intentions are good, I think the food business is definitely not for them. The empanadas are a dry, bread-like type of crust with cheap, unseasoned, oily fillings(the spinach ones taste like canned spinach). I couldn’t even eat them. The longer I live in Houston, the more I realize that this is not a town for foodies. This place is a dime a dozen in this town. Low quality, as usual.

Not a bad place at all, though Unilocal ratings would have probably deterred me. There are some really tasty combo items for lunch and good service, and there is obviously a unique cultural atmosphere and element to the restaurant. Good place to go for lunch!

I ordered the chuck wagon, empanadas Colombians and pandebono. I was not so impressed. The pandebono was served cold. The wait time was long and there was no communication from the wait staff that I would have to wait 20mins to get my food. I had to go to the counter to ask if my food was ready.

Great variety of empanadas. Some are a little thinker but still delicious, I love thick crust. Plantains were a little dry but ok. Definitely going to try some of the sweet empanadas next time. The price is also very good.

I seriously don’t understand the bad reviews here. Décor is nice and casual with lots of Colombian knick-knacks all over the place. Service has always been friendly. I used to eat here frequently when I lived around the area. While some of their other empanadas are hit or miss, I always get one and only one empanada here that stands out for me, Hot Tia Maria. Its fillings are quite hearty. Filled with tomatoes, jalapeños, onions, and stewed beef. Basically a good beef stew in a hot pocket. Goes great with the chimichurri! Very good and I have no good reason to try anything else here.

I have been here a couple times and have really enjoyed their food each time. Wasn’t going to write a review, but seeing how this place has so many negative reviews I thought id put in my two cents. I really don’t understand why they are getting all this negative press but to each their own. I have tried their beef empanada, which are very very juicy!!! Be careful when you are eating this, as soon as you bite it, the juicy beef sauce just oozes out. I love the beef, not too crazy about the dough. But what really caught my attention was their arroz con pollo(rice with chicken) it’s so good and flavorful!!! And I know a good arroz con pollo when I taste one, I’m from panama and that’s one of our staple dishes! I even know how to make it but theirs is 10 times better!!! I would come back just for their rice! I like to stick to what I like so I haven’t really tried much else from their menu! Oh and their traditional Colombian empanada is good too! I like this place! If you are craving empanada or simple but flavorful Colombian food and you are in the area stop by!!!
