Medical Clinic of Houston

This is the first time that I have ever updated a review from five stars to one star. The Medical Clinic of Houston gets this new abysmal rating from me due to their imaging department. My neurologist wanted me to get a brain MRI with and without contrast. My insurance is an HMO with a huge deductible. I called around to many places so I could shop around and get the best price. Because my deductible is so high, I was told that it could actually be cheaper to self-​pay than even go through the insurance. When I called this place for a quote for MRI code 70 553, I was given a price of $ 383.32 plus an additional $ 13 for the contrast dye used for the MRI. I told the lady on the phone that this was the best price I had heard so far and would call back to schedule an appointment. I was very excited to find a good price since I don’t have a lot of extra money right now. My neurologist faxed the MRI order over and the imaging department called the next day to verify everything and schedule the appointment. Once again I told them I was using self-​pay and verified the price. Everything was great until the day before my appointment. They called to confirm and then told me the price would be over $ 2100. I explained to the lady on the phone that I was given a different quote the two previous times. She just simply said that couldn’t be right. I asked to talk to her boss and was told that quote was incorrect and there must have been a misunderstanding. Both ladies were very rude and wouldn’t take any responsibility for what happened nor could could they tell me why the price had multiplied five times over what I was quoted. I had to cancel because I couldn’t afford it and now I have to find another place to get an MRI, all the while knowing I might have a brain blood clot or something and now the MRI is delayed while I have to find another place. This place has really gone downhill. The customer service is atrocious and all they want to do is price-​gouge and go after your money. I felt like I was dealing with a bunch of crooks and dishonest people. They should have enough decency to honor the price quote instead of treating me like a liar. I didn’t just pull $ 383.32 out of thin air! I have been a loyal patient here for many years, but I am now leaving this practice. I thought the other bad Unilocal reviews for this place were over-​exaggerations, but now I have witnessed this treatment firsthand and would recommend to stay far away from this place and go someplace that actually treats patients with dignity and respect. **Update – somebody called me from the Medical Clinic of Houston and tried to claim that I had gotten the information from another radiology center and had mixed the two places up. Considering that I had called the Medical Clinic of Houston only and have the phone records to prove it, I knew I hadn’t called another place. I called the name of the radiology center they claimed was offering that price quote, and that place told me they had never offered that quote and the Medical Clinic of Houston was wrong. They are just trying to pass the buck so as to absolve blame from themselves and would go as far as trying to pin the fiasco on another radiology center that I didn’t even have contact with myself. What dishonesty! I have an advanced degree and don’t appreciate them attempting to play me like a fool. I will never be back and I have told my friends that go there to stop going there as well! I will also be letting my Twitter and Instagram followers know about this so they won’t patronize the place either.

Dr. Munsayac is absolutely wonderful! She was very attentive and allowed me ample time to explain my issues during my physical. The facility itself was very accessible with a clean environment and friendly staff. The best part about the office is the wide variety of services they provide. You won’t have to travel very far to see a doctor here. ⁵⁄₅

Been a patient for 4 years. Love the doctors, but the office is so incredibly inefficient I just switched practices. It takes weeks to get an appointment, days/​multiple phone calls for the office to call back (if they ever call back), weeks to get a prescription written or to hear back about lab results etc. They really make you work hard as a patient. Nothing is easy or streamlined. And it takes a substantial amount of effort and time to even communicate with the correct person, then getting the requested task accomplished is a whole separate ball game. If you have the time, patience and flexibility in your schedule to deal with it, it’s worth it. If not keep walkin’

Avoid this clinic! Go somewhere else! My family has been going to Medical Clinic of Houston since I was a teen. What once was was a clinic full of caring doctors with great bedside manner is now the opposite. I’ve been to numerous doctors here since the one I had left and they’ve all been ridiculous. Crappy attitudes, talking down to patients, not reading charts, not listening, complaining that they have to go pick up their kids when THEY were the one that was late to the appointment. Telling you that you have a credit, mailing you a check, then turning right around and telling you that you owe them money. Scheduling a physical and Pap smear for the doctor to tell you that you can wait a couple more years on both (when you need meds and have cancer run in your family). Telling you when you show up for your appointment that you canceled your appointment (that call never happened, a miracle to get time off to go to the doctor). Misdiagnoses multiple times.
Doctors with sloppy appearance, standing, flipping their hair and picking fingernail polish off their fingers. The list goes on!

Dr. Magid is the best! He is clever, funny and very kind. He listens to all my concerns and is very thorough. The staff is friendly, especially the main secretary, Toni (SUPER sweet!). I highly recommend this office. A couple of tips: take your parking ticket inside to pay for parking. Also, arrive a little early because the office can seem like a labyrinth at first (2 elevators — one for parking and one inside the building… Dr’s office on 5^th floor).

The doctors are great. I have to complain about the nurses and getting back test results. Takes forever to get ahold of the person you are trying to speak with. Staff can be rude.
Update: I am still waiting for the nurses to update me on helping me get a medication deemed medically necessary. This is the most incompetent staff I have ever been too. I love my doctor but will now be looking around since the nurses are unbearable to deal with. They never return your calls within the same business day, usually not for 2 days. I have been back and forth with them on a simple issue (them getting approval for me with my insurance) for a month now. Awful experience. You don’t feel taken care of at all.

This is a complaint and a warning to not to see Dr. Arup Achari at Sunset Clinic. Today I had an appointment at 9:30 while I’m sitting in the garage at 9:01 he had one of his little nurses call me to tell me that the St Luke in Pearland didn’t send them all their records I said well I’m not going to do another $ 1600 test I’ll do the other but not the one I already did at the ER. She puts on a brief hold to only come back on my phone to tell me that Dr. Achari says ‘to either do the EKG or find another doctor’. I was like oh wow ok I’ll find another doctor and hung up. As I was driving back to my home in Pearland it wasn’t sitting well with me so I called back to request to have my information removed and a number to file a complaint well the girl tells me that she doesn’t know the number and forward me to medical records not billing. So after being transferred from records to billing to only get voice Mail I called back. The same girl tells me well ma’am it’s really nothing to take out the system Bc you wasn’t seen so I said ok but what about the number I asked to file a complaint she started by saying I don’t know the number I cut her off (I know it was rude) but I wasn’t going to be jumped around to different people and said find the number or ask. She kept saying she didn’t have it and I said ma’am please don’t play me right now I’m not the one please I am saved but please don’t test me. Find the number or I will file a complaint on you and your boss then she places me on hold and I can hear her colleagues tell her to forward me so I got Colanda (I know I spelled it wrong but) she was administration assistant of directors of nursing and she took my complaint and will file It and she even apologized on their behalf of being so rude and unprofessional. I would never eve recommend anyone to this doctor I don’t wish for him to lose his job although I did say that but I pray her gets proper training on how to not teach his nursing staff to speak like that.

The NURSE for Sangita Pogge is really awful, she doesnt even talk to the patient kindly. Recently I was trying to reach her for an appointment. I called her 50 times and left voicemail few times, finally reached out to admin and complained. SHe had the audacity to rebutt me (customer) saying she is too busy handling 3000 patients. And I should leave repeated voicemails. I am going to send a complain to the CEO of the Medical Clinic for such atrocious behavior of nurses when the insurance costs are sky rocketing.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Magid for 5 – 6 years now and he is one of the best doctors I have ever had. His staff has always responded to my messages in a timely manner. Any issues I’ve had, very few, have been addressed immediately. I recommend Dr. Magid to everyone I know.

I’m a rheumatology patient and I love it here. I’ve used two other doctors in Houston and they were both awful. This clinic is a real network. All the doctors communicate with each other. You can self park for $ 5 or valet for $ 10. For a rheumatoid patient, you can see your doctor and get blood drawn all in same room and then go down stairs for X-​rays if needed. The infusion suite and nurse are also great! dr. Tran is a doctor that actually cares about her patients rather than seeing how much money she can get from your visits. Speedy return on phone calls and requests.

Administrative staff is beyond incompetent and business practices are shady at best. Before I switched practices (thank goodness Houston has 300,000 other doctors), I had to deal with them giving me the wrong bill/​coding something wrong. Every time! Although I always paid my bills, they acted as if I was going to «skip town» if I questioned some charges.
Also, I once had a UTI and was forced to wait until a representative came to confirm billing. All while I was doubled over in pain. Awful people. Will never go back.

I have been going to Dr. Magid since my original doctor went to MDVIP. He’s a handful but the best doc I have ever had. He’s always spot on about the condition and how to treat. I have referred him to my husband and entire family. They all agree that he’s an excellent doc. My only complaint is that his staff is not always friendly, especially the secretary. His wonderful nurse Carla is always friendly to me but apparently not to everyone. I won’t leave him either way unless he moves or retires. I don’t care about paying for parking as I would have to do that anywhere in the med center. This clinic is convenient and one stop as the say.

Over it! The service at this clinic has declined over the years. Where do I even start?
The last time I went to see Dr Magid, I talked to him about switching my anxiety medication because I had taken it for so many years and no longer found it as effective as it used to be. He prescribed me something else which I took for a few weeks and didn’t like at all. This was not his fault as we both agreed on the prescription. However, when the medicine had me feeling horribly depressed and not like myself at all, I called his office and spoke with the nurse asking to switch to something else. Instead, he wanted to supplement the medication with yet another one. I refused to take any more medications and reiterated how awful the medicine made me feel. Eventually, the situation was sorted out and I was switched to a scrip that I prefer.
I wish it ended there.
For about 2 – 3 months (I lost track), I’ve been trying to get another scrip filled. It started quite simply with me calling my pharmacy to refill and being told they had to call my doctors office. This is a medication I take as needed and I called my refill in advance, so I was in no hurry to get it. A few weeks later, I contact the pharmacy regarding the refill. They told me they had been faxing the Doctor’s office daily for a month and nobody responded. So, I called Dr Magid’s office and left a voicemail asking to have the scrip refilled. One week later, someone returned my call and said the scrip was ready. When I showed up at the pharmacy, I noticed they called in the wrong dosage and the scrip was reasonably more expensive. So, I called again and asked that they call in the right dosage. This was two weeks ago. Nobody ever called me.
I called AGAIN today and spoke with Tony. Despite everything I had gone thru, I was perfectly nice to Tony and inquired about the refill. She told me it looks like it was called in two weeks ago. When I asked why nobody called me to tell me, she said it was someone else’s responsibility and she could not tell me why they did what they did. Then she really aggravated me when she said «maybe she didn’t know you wanted her to call you» and «some patients just don’t listen to their voicemails»??? I told her this was not the case and this is where I did get upset because I felt she was not handling the situation responsibly. Blaming issues like this on a colleague is extremely unprofessional, as is making up excuses. Why not take ownership and DO YOUR JOB? She was aggressive, rude, and cut me off several times.
I called my pharmacy and sure enough, the scrip had been waiting there two weeks.
I am extremely disappointed with how this was handled. If you read my prior review, you will see how much grief I have gone thru as a cash paying patient. I will have medical insurance in two months and at that time will switch to a new doctor. I will not return here. Enough is enough!

When you come to a place like this there are so many different areas that it is hard to give a solid review of what your experience will be like on a consistent basis.
Having said that I will say that I really enjoy seeing My doctor here. I never feel rushed when I am in an appointment with her. She’s the first doctor that I have had that I have felt comfortable coming back to again and again and recommending to others. Also, check in and checkout are both always extremely fast and wait time has never taken longer than 5 minutes. This place is truly a hidden gem.
Plus another great perk is that they have almost every survive I have ever needed on the same building. X-​rays, specialists, optometrists, etc.
Parking: now this is a pet peeve of mine. No matter how long you are here the parking is $ 5. If they could switch to another option that would be great especially if you are just stopping in for blood work that takes less than 15 minutes. You can also valet for $ 10.
Tips: There is a vending machine on the first floor if you have to fast before an appointment and have blood work done.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the doctor today, but my experience with the staff was disappointing, so I will not be rescheduling.
I scheduled via Zocdoc and then received an email stating my appointment was canceled. I also received a voicemail stating my appointment was canceled since that time actually was not available and to call to reschedule. I called and made an appointment for the next day at the same time. The staff member was not apologetic and very matter of fact, although the appointment time should have been taken off of zocdoc if it was no longer available.
I was a new patient, so I needed to fast to get my labs drawn. I expressed to them that I work overnight, so I could sleep and come in having fasted and have my blood drawn in the afternoon (vs. the standard morning fasting appointment). When I woke up to get ready for my appointment, there was a significant thunderstorm outside, so much so that the electricity went off in my home 3 times before I left the house, and I was driving quite slow in the downpour, and inevitably I was late.
When I arrived, I parked in the pay garage, and then went to the elevator to look for what floor the doctor’s office was on and no doctors names were listed. I waited in line at the front desk to ask what floor my doctor was on. A sign with doctors names and office locations/​floors would have been quite helpful (the complex is 4 — 5 stories with a parking garage associated)
When I got to the second floor, the administrative individual for the floor looked me up and said I was 20 minutes late. I was understanding of the fact that a rescheduling needed to occur, but I was not asked if I wanted to reschedule. I asked if I could have my labs drawn since I had fasted, and they refused, stating that because I was not seeing the physician I could not have my labs drawn. If my appointment was rescheduled, I could have seen the physician once my labs were available on a later date.
I have had multiple occasions where I have had my labs drawn for a physician and then seen them on a later date so they had lab values available. When I made the initial appointment I tried to express that I had seen a physician in the past year for an annual physical, and that I just wanted some follow up labs, but since I was a new patient, I required the «annual physical» appointment. I also wrote this in the comment section on Zocdoc as to the reason for my appointment. Also, although my initial zocdoc appointment was canceled, when it was rescheduled, the rescheduled appointment was not placed back in zocdoc, which somewhat defeats the purpose of using zocdoc from a user standpoint. Zocdoc is a central place to keep all your doctor information, past appointments, schedule appointments, etc.
When I left, I was required to pay for parking in the garage despite being there for ten minutes. The attendants at the front desk on the first floor expressed to me that many patients are disappointed about having to pay to park even if they have to be there for only five minutes to pick up a prescription, or do something else that takes a minimal amount of time. Many garages have a «first 30 minutes free» or similar policy.
After sleeping very little overnight to make the rescheduled appointment, not eating for 12 hours, and then having to pay for parking and being told I could not have my labs drawn and asked to be rescheduled for later, I will not be returning to this office.

Great doctors and staff! Everyone is always very attentive to my needs and extremely nice. The only con is that you have to pay $ 5 to park. I see Dr. Gus. She is very personal and remembers everything I tell her.

My grandmas drs used to be here. The first doctors we had were wonderful, but over the years we noticed that it was harder to get them to work with you. They also had a decent amount of turnover in the drs she was seeing. The really awful experience though occurred when I called them to ask about a bed sore/​boil on her and asked if they treated that there or should I take her directly to the emergency room. She had had this problem before and had to be hospitalized for a long time so I wanted it dealt with quickly before it became really infected. Basically just ended up going to the drs office, having them say they didn’t treat that then having to cart my frail grandmother to an emergency room. When I got to the emergency room, they said they talked to the dr (for she called them before we got to her office) and the emergency room instructed her to tell us to come directly there instead of to the office first. Basically, just felt like we got the run around. Plus they charge for parking or make you do valet. Something about charging sick patients for primo parking doesn’t sit well with me.

Dr. Goodpastor is BEYOND exceptional with her knowledge, level of concern and overall presentation. I’ve worked in healthcare for years… she’s PHENOMENAL!

Amazing Doctors that treat you like a person instead of a number…

Medical clinics can be uncomfortable, difficult places but this clinic recently relocated to an upscale new location just down the street from their previous building. Seating is abundant and spacious — you are not crammed in next to people sneezing germs everywhere.
The receptionists and nurses are friendly and polite. They greet you with a genuine smile and in my experience, have always been friendly and understanding about whatever issue I’m there to address.
My physician on site is Dr. Jennifer Meyer, an internist. She’s fantastic. Super laid back and considerate. I have never that she was rushing to finish with me just to get to the next patient ASAP. She takes a common medical approach to treating health problems — test, test, test, and then diagnose; however, it’s easy to discuss your options depending on the situation. Thumbs up.
The only thing worth mentioning that could be a problem for a first-​time visitor is parking. The clinic is situated in the middle of the Sunset Blvd. /​Southampton neighborhood near Rice University so street parking can be limited. The clinic does have a self=parking garage and valet, if needed. If you want to find street parking, you usually can, but give yourself plenty of time to do so.
