Midtown Day Spa

If you bought a Groupon for this place, ask for a refund. This place should not be calling itself a «day spa». The décor and supplies are very cheap, which should have been a clue to me. My nail tech looked bored and exasperated at working on me and was on her phone half the time. She did the worst job on my nails, very messy (I can do better on myself).
That was not the worst of it. I was a little uncomfortable when I learned that the masseuse was a man but I continued. He was very nice and did a good job but I am definite that I felt an erection as he leaned over me toward the end. I was glad when the timer went off right then and he stopped. I got dressed quickly but was alarmed when I walked out of the room and everyone had left except for the masseuse. I bolted out of there and I swear I will never go back.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I agree, worst spa experience ever, and I never even got in for my appointment.
My husband purchased a Mother’s Day spa package on Groupon for me as a gift. When I tried to book the appointment, I was told there were no openings for months! I didn’t get an appointment until November 5^th at 10:00 am. The woman who took my call was rude and seemed irritated that I called. Strike one.
The morning of my appointment I called the number to confirm the location. You’d think Midtown spa would be in Midtown area, but the address was on I-​10. No one answered, and there was no message service or answering machine. I visited the website, but couldn’t get any information on an alternate working number. Strike two.
Concerned that this would turn out badly, I went to the building for my appointment to find that there were construction workers in the spa suite! No employees were there, and I had never received a call or e-​mail cancelling my appointment. The construction workers told me the suite was being remodeled. Strike three.
Since then I have never received any communication from them apologizing for their complete ineptitude and for my time and inconvenience. Groupon did give us a refund for our expense, but it hardly makes up for this major flub. I don’t think I would even accept a free massage from these folks.
Awful, awful, awful.

I can’t be leave this place hasn’t been shut down. It was the most awefull experience I’ve ever had. The male «masseuse «was totally inappropriate ! I can’t even go into detail, it was that bad. Then for the facial they rubbed a cotton ball with sea breeze on my face. I don’t think anyone in the place has a license.

Midtown Day Spa is the worst day spa experience I’ve EVER had. I bought a $ 150 spa package for two on Groupon, which included 60-​minute massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. Things were wrong on so many levels that I do not even know where to begin. To start off, it took me three weeks to book an appointment. The number that was listed on the Groupon certificate was unanswered every time I called. I left a total of five voice messages asking for a call back so I can book an appointment. I received zero call backs. I drove to their facility only to be told that the person who does their booking is off-​site. I made them get their booking person on the phone for me so I could make my appointment in their presence. The caller on the phone argued with me that she had not received any phone messages from me. Rule #1 in customer service: NEVER argue with the client. It was June 8^th. The «next available» date was August 1^st, which I promptly accepted.
August 1^st arrived and I was excited to have a mother/​daughter spa date. Our appointments were set for 2:30P. I did not get a reminder call the day before, so I was a little apprehensive. I received a call from them at 1:30P the day of to tell me that they were running behind and for us to come at 2:45 instead of 2:30. I promptly arrived at 2:45P. We did not received a «welcome to Midtown Day Spa»; instead, we got a «you here for the 2:45? Fill this out». We never got an introduction and our technicians never introduced themselves to us. Never knew their names.
This was to be a couple’s spa date. My daughter and I were never together for the mani/​pedi portion because our technicians could not synchronize their times. My daughter got her mani done first while I waited 30 minutes for my tech to get her stuff together. By the time my tech started working on my nails, they had moved my daughter to the next room to do her pedi. I tried to have a good attitude. I made small talk with my tech (still did not know her name since she never introduced herself). She told me she does nails and facials but not massages. By the time my mani was done and they moved me to the next room with my daughter, she was done with her pedi. I waited 30 more minutes for someone to do my pedi and no one did and no explanation was given as to why I was needlessly waiting. I was getting irritated. They finally came to take us to the massage room and said they would do my pedi «later» after the massage.
The tech who told me she only did nails and facials was now my «massage therapist». I tried to stay calm as she «rubbed lotion on my back». Her massage technique had no rhyme or rhythm. Though I did not see her face because I was faced-​down, I could feel how lost she was. A complete waste of an hour of my life. My daughter felt the same way about her massage experience. The facials were nothing to write home about since there were no special touches. By the time we were done with the massage and facials, I looked at my watch and it was now 7P. We have been there for over 4 hours, and I still had a pedi pending. I made the decision to skip the pedi because it was not worth my time. I told my tech that I will skip my pedi because I have spent way too much time here more than I had budgeted and that I had things to do. Her response was «okay». She did not apologize for my inconvenience. She did not offer for me to come back and get a pedi whenever my schedule allowed. She did not offer a gift card. She simple said «okay». I grabbed my daughter’s hand and headed towards the door. The tech looked up and said «oh, would you like to leave a tip?» I smiled and said «based on today’s experience, NO. But thanks for asking». We promptly left. Please do not go here and give them your business. They do not deserve it.

I bought a couples massage on groupon for $ 150 which was to include For $ 150, you get a spa package for two (a $ 570 value), which includes:
Two approximately 60-​minute massages (a $ 180 value)
Two facials (a $ 170 value)
Two manicures and pedicures (a $ 220 value).
There description advertised that both massage and facial were approximately 60 minutes.
Our Appt was for 1:00 pm Saturday which we arrived @12:43. We were greeted nicely and asked to sign in and complete a client info sheet which included the usual info… where you want your focus of the massage and your prior medical history. We were promptly ushered in and told to remove our clothes and get tucked in two side by side beds. This was at 12:47. We waited in the room until 1:02 when two ladies came in and introduced themselves. They both asked of there were focal areas or taboo spots. Then after our massages began. My massage therapist began with my back, neck, arms, legs and feet with a neutral oil. While probably not the best massage I have had, it was nice. The technique was not Swedish slow and relaxing but more vigorous but I agree with the other reviews when they say that it is hard to relax because your window in the room has blinds so it’s not completely dark and you can hear the freeway down below. Also, the choice of music was whitney houston who i like but haven’t ever had before while having a massage.
We were done at 1:37 then the facials were performed in the room and were done at 2:04. They used a scrub and warm towels and then rubbed in moisturizer and used a steam machine but as there was only 1 machine and 2 people it was a switch between people. I can’t really rate the facial because I haven’t had one but my face felt a little bit greasy after.
We then had to wait for the manicure as there were only 2 tables in a small room and only 2 manicure/​pedicure people. There were two ladies 1 hispanic and 1 korean and I can’t rate my husbands mani-​pedi as it wasn’t much but a trim of the nail and brief buff because he didn’t want polish. For me, the technician looked harried and tired but did perk up when I talked to her. She unfortunately wasn’t that great of a technician. I picked out my nail polish which they didn’t have a lot of choices and some of the polishes were not Opi brand. She painted the polish over my skin edges and then used her nails to wipe off the excess which I have never had nail technician do that. The other places I have been rarely paint the skin. She had nail polish on her hands from wiping other peoples nail polish off. I agree about the sanitation practices. My husbands nail tech took stuff out of wrapped packages that looked like sterilization packets but my lady took her tools out of a drawer and I am not certain my items were sterilized.
We then had to wait more for the pedicure as there were only 2 chairs and finally we were then done at 3:40. The pedicure was more of the same technique. I did see the lady peel a sticker buffer for off for each person. This was also still not as sanitary as places I have been.
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this a place to go. The workers look tired and I think that contributes them looking unhappy. Also the wait is extraordinary because they have a very small shop of equipment and also staff are few. The sanitation practices are not up to standards and the technique and location is also lacking.

My other bought the groupon for the Valentine’s special. Upon arrival I noticed the sketchy décor and the pedi chairs in the waiting room. The girl that did my nails was really sweet, but they had a bunch of picked over nail polishes that were mostly empty. It took me a while to find a color that was actually appropriate for spring and that had some polish left in the bottle. Then I got my pedi, which water had to be poured in the tub by the bucket full form a hot water (coffee) machine! My massage was ok, but the woman’s hands were very rough. Kinda weird and uncomfortable. The facial was not much better, rough hands and slopping the mask stuff all over the place. I went straight home and washed my face 2 – 3 times because I’m sure the facial products they used are from Wal-​mart and I didn’t want to break out. The spa package was supposed to include champagne and chocolates, I never was offered any, nor any water after my massage (2 other ladies were). They packed the people in like sardines, run you thru the services like cattle. Plus, it was very uncomfortable to sit and look at the other ladies all feeling the same way about the situation. Overall bad experience, but then again it was a $ 79 groupon for all of those services, men don’t know any different.
They say that it was over a $ 300 value so I tipped $ 55 HESITANTLY, not wanting to be a cheap a, cause the pedi people were right there (chairs are in waiting room) and could hear my every word. Just stay away from this place…

WARNING — Please do not go here!!! This «spa» is scary. I left extremely confused of what I had just experienced. This was absolutely the WORST massage and facial I have ever received, in fact you cannot even call it a massage or facial. The massage was more like torture and I could not wait for it to end. The man that «massaged» me had no idea what he was doing and obviously did not go to massage therapy school. He made me feel very uncomfortable. If I wrote about all of all the things that were wrong about this place and my experience it would be a book so just please DON’T GO!!! There was a ticking timer that they had going the whole time of my massage/​facial and when it dinged they would start it over! There were sirens and traffice in the background not to mention loud-​ish jazz playing. It was HORRIBLE! It was not relaxing in fact I left more stressed out. This place is very questionable and needs to be reported somehow. There is no way that this place or the people that work there can be licensed! Needless to say after my so called massage and facial my girlfriend and I left before our mani/​pedis. I could not get out of there fast enough. I don’t write reviews, but this place was so bizarre that It had to be done.

The day of my appointment I googled this place for the address. I found these reviews instead. I was scared to go but since I made the appointment with a group of people I had to pull through. Where do I start ?
1– It was located on the 6^th floor of an office building. The door had a paper taped on it that said Suite 690 but the door guy said it was 680.
2-​Long term parking was across the street in a parking garage.
3-​They booked our party for an hour later so we had to sit and wait for an hour in their tight waiting room which has no separation to the 2 pedicure chairs that were being occupied by other clients. The waiting area was hot possibly due to the hot water in the pedicure spa chairs.
4-​They offered us wine and chocolate. All you can drink and eat chocolate.
5-​We started with 2 people in the pedicure chairs but only one technician.
6-​It was finally my turn for a manicure. The technician was unskilled. She filed my nails down and then used her own nails to buff my nails. WTF??? Did I say WTF? already? She pulled off the raw nail edges with her own nails. Seriously?
7-​She paints my nails and runs out of Top coat. They don’t have supplies here. The nail technician next to her is forced to pour some into her bottle.
8-​She applies thick coats of paint so there are bubbles. It dries with a small fan. No heating light. The top coat is uneven and does not even cover the entire nail.
9-​Pedicure time. Nail technician is new. She doesn’t trim my cuticles or under the nails.
10– No restroom or running water inside the suite. Instead you get the ‘pee’ key to use the restroom down the hall.
It is now 2 and a half hours into our appointment time and I have not had the massage and facial. We are starving and need to leave. They offer to reschedule for the treatments we did not complete. I am ready to run the hell out of there and never come back. The massage room has two tables with a curtain. There is no where to undress but in front of each other.
Please beware! This is not a true spa! It’s scary!

This place was terrible. Do not waste your time going here. Made an appointment with my friend, and they made us wait 45 minutes before they put us in broken pedicure chairs that were so uncomfortable, we had to ask for a pillow to put behind our backs. The massagers obviously didn’t work, the water had to be brought in from another room and poured in, the choices of nail polish were disgusting. Worst pedicure I’ve ever had. Skipped the whole manicure basically due to time restraints. «facial» was them rubbing some stuff on your face fora few minutes.

I would have to agree with all of the other reviewers. I read all the reviews and was a little scared but went into it with an open mind because I know most people don’t leave the good reviews. The parking was terrible. It was in an office building. when we walked in the doors, It did not look very clean. We got our pedicures first. All they did was file my toenails down and rubbed my feet with lotion. They said they would paint my toenails after my massage (I didn’t even bother following up with that). We then did the coupes massage and it was a good experience. The facial was not your typical facial. They put a headband on me for the facial and after I took it off it was so disgusting. It looked like it had never been washed. After that we were suppose to get our manicures but I did not follow up with that. I did not trust their instruments. They did not come out of packages like they normally do. I wrote to groupon to advise them to not run the groupon again and they refunded me! So thank you groupon! But i would not recommend this place! This is not a spa. So don’t go expecting much.

The place smells weird and is dirty. They took me in for my «spa session» 45 min late. They kept telling me it was just going to be 5 min more. I should have left after 30 min.
My massage was supposed to be 60 min and it only lasted 25 minutes and it was complete crap. My «facial» consisted of the same technician putting lotion on my face. that’s it. I told the front desk person that my massage was 25 min instead of an hour. she said she would tell the technician. that was the extent of the customer service.
My manicure and pedicure were a joke. They didn’t have enough clear nail polish to even start the manicure pedicure.

I’m a +1 to Lisa and Alanna, thinking this «spa» was Midtown Retreat Day Spa… you know, in Midtown. Purchased two coupons: one for massage and and for facial. The massage was ok, even though the lobby and rooms are uninviting, cold, and really sketchy overall. The facial was awful. I did not want to take my clothes off and put on the big acrylic robe and get under the blanket. Because I opted out of the shoulder massage (no thanks, I already felt sketched out, now I just wanted a facial) it only lasted for 20 minutes of what was advertised as an hour and that was 20 minutes too much. People kept coming in and out of the room and no one said a word to me. If I could have comfortably left, I would have. I’ve purchased legit spa coupons before and this is not one of them. Now I know to do my homework first and look for the online reviews, even if the offer sounds like a no-​brainer!

Of course you have been with DeeDee for many years. OF COURSE you have. While your loyalty shines through and you probably have been getting great service. I told MY experiences not yours or the door post. I told the truth from point A to B. She has picked out specks of product infront of me because it had been «used» somewhere else. It has been time on the wait and and not even there I WAS NOT A HOUR AND A HALF LATE. i would call and COMMUNICATE if i were that. I waited for that time so who knows when you supposedly saw me and offered your seat (which i HIGHLY doubt) in your graciousness of planning where yall were going to party for new years. So much planning, eating and hanging was going on you probably did but why should we play forward the shortchanging of the next if you all were late too??? Nah, Ill pass.
I can and will post the wonderful picture of my lopsided nails that i walked away with that day that someone else has fixed. the proof is right there.

This spa is a collection of individual persons under the name mds. Christina is the owner and there are various students, massage therapists (one is a little handsy) all in there. It can feel a little claustrophobic sometimes.
While some of the aestheticians (Lola who was formally front desk and another girl) do nails, they DONT do a acylics yet.) Deedee Ford formally of Precise Nails does. so if you have a spa and nail package more than likely she will be doing your nails.
She used to have her own shop in Garden Oaks. Now she is here and she does good nail work but service is a little dubious as of late. Various women in my family have gone to Deedee and her mother for years. So I started going back last year at her new location. Its been a love/​hate every since. Love: She promotes healthy nail growth and educates you. Very affordable if you dont want much.
Hate: While her service has gone down in recent years it has its advantages. You will wait. My first appt she was late and I have never been used to someone running late every appointment. She runs behind quite alot as i figure she has alot of stuff going on with other businesses and her kids. She will never take you with no waiting and I have even waited almost an hour from my appointment time. She is on the phone sometimes and she rushes you out. Again, she has alot going on so dont see it as relaxing. You wash your hands in a spa tub sometimes as the set up is kinda weird which I guess shortcuts are ok in that instance.
Quality of products used is a bit suspect. While waiting two weeks in between refills i found my nails brittle and broke easily. My real nails. I know thats right and ive seen her use product thats been compromised so that might be something.
Ive only been late once and i was taught a lesson. I did discover that everyone in front of me was late but the communication just wasnt there.
she does help you out if you need to come in between appointments so thats nice but when it seems she is spread thin, you can get lost in the shuffle.

STAY AWAY! Although Kelly, my aesthetician, had a great touch, I would echo everyone’s sentiment. I did the same thing as Alanna A, even walking to Midtown Retreat and presenting my coupon to make a future appointment. Only then did I realize the difference.
Sketchy is a kind adjective. The décor is thrown together. When I realized this was in an office building I thought «Hmmmm». Clue # 1 — spa in an office building?
When I walked in, I knew this was not going to be good. I did have to fill out a form so it seems they created one since Alanna A visited.
Clue #2 — the room had two beds with only a curtain in between.
Clue # 3 — daylight beaming in which does not make for a relaxing environment. either close the drapes or give us eye masks to block out the light.
Clue # 4 — no running water in the room. How will she moisten the fluffy washcloths they usually use?
I told her my nose was in special need of attention and extractions. That is when she explained they did not do that This was a deep cleansing only. Clue # 5
Kelly did not use a headband to keep my hair back, nor did she remove the pillow under my head. Clue # 6 that this was not a professional place.
Usually the aestheticians tell you what products they are using and what is gonna happen next. Not here. Kelly just launched in with a cleanser. Again, nice touch and technique.
Clue #7 was the very loud and ticking timer which made me think of a bomb.
When I asked Kelly what products they used she said Spa Essentials. When she put the masque on, it felt minty and great at first but then burned. I asked her if it had glycolc acid in it. When she replied «I don’t know» I almost bolted off the bed. You don’t know if it has fruit acid in it or not? I told her to take it off. She did and apologized.
As Alanna said, they pretty much used the same products over and over. I could tell that removing the masque early threw her off a bit because she gave me the neck and shoulder massage… again.
I have to say that Kelly’s massage skills were good. She had strong hands and when I complimented her on the head (above the shoulders head y’all) massage, she kept at it till the time was up.
I will not be returning and would not recommend this place at all to any one.
Stay away. There is a reason this place is cheap.

A few friends and I (a total of 5 girls) bought the Midtown Day Spa coupon from Urban Dealight … 1 hour facial, 1 hour massage, mani and pedi. It was a total scam. The spa is located in an office building. We arrived at 12p and the customer service was awful. They split us up and my friend and I went into the massage/​facial area. The apparatus that holds your face as you are getting a massage was broken. I had to face sideways as I was getting my massage. The girl that gave me a massage, clearly did not go to school for this. She basically gave me a rub down. The lady that gave us the facial, only applied lotion (same lotion 4 or 5 times), massaged our face, neck, arms, legs and feet. I’ve received facials in the past and a good esthetician does not massage your legs because she is too busy cleaning/​picking your face. The facial and massage was suppose to be 2 hours long (an hour each) and they finished in less than an hour and a half. Very disappointing. My friend and I proceed to get a pedicure. She basically filed my nails and put one coat of polish on my nails. I proceeded to get a manicure and the girl stab my finger. I asked her to skip it all and just polish my nails. It’s obvious these girls did not go to school for this … I did not see licenses posted up on the wall (as you see them at every salon you go to). Terrible Terrible Terrible

This place is sketchy. They are located in an office building on the 6^th floor. The building is ok on its own, but the «spa/​office» was terrible. It was not inviting, in fact, it had a paper sign on the outside indicating it was Midtown Day Spa. I mistakenly bought a Groupon for a 60 minute facial, thinking it was Midtown Retreat Day Spa and Salon in Midtown, Houston.
Let me set the stage for you. I came in early, because I did not want to fight traffic going back home from my office. I told the receptionist that I was early, and I could wait if they did not have a technician available. She said that it was not a problem. I asked if I needed to fill anything out. She said no… first warning sign. How is my technician going to know if I have any allergies or any concerns?
The décor was interesting. The waiting area is adjacent to two sets of pedicure foot spas. I went back into the room, undress and noticed that there weren’t any sinks or ways to get fresh water. Another sign that this was going to be a bad facial. In fact, the room was meant for a couples massage room.
Technician came in, and she informed me that it was going to be a facial cleansing, not a facial. I asked her what she meant by this. She said that it is going to be cleansing and a mask. I was kind of taken back, because I couldn’t figure out how we were going to spend 60 minutes cleaning my face and then a mask. And this is how she did it… 45 minutes of using the same cleanser to remove make up, massage the cleanser in and repeat. Using the same product (which I asked and she did not know the names of the product) over and over again, and then leaving me for 10 mintues for the mask to work its way in. Needless to say, it was unprofessional and very bizzare.
I was so angry after the «facial» that I rushed out of the «day spa/​office». I did not have it inside of me to leave a tip. It was one of the most aweful experiences of my life. If you don’t like your face, you should go here. If you want unprofessional service, this is the place for you. Overall, if you want to punish yourself, this is the place for you.
