I would give this place no stars if I could. We literally visited over 20 furniture stores today on the hunt for a few items since we just got a steal on a couch(Rooms to go furniture outlet in Katy — they are worth checking out). Considering we visited that many and this one stuck out because the sales person was so rude says something in my mind. Like many of the other modern furniture stores on Fondren they have all the same kind of stock — each store tends to have a few different items and everyone is always having a sale and its usually a good idea to shop around(the same thing at one place can be $ 100+ or — depending on who has what sale going. Anyways… We walked in, took a look around, didn’t see much we liked especially because the last place we had been was cheaper. The sales guy caught us on the way out asked if it was that they didn’t have what we wanted or the price. We explained we we’re looking for something in particular and they didn’t have what suited our needs. Then he asked again if cost was an issue and we said kind of — we had a budget in mind and the place we just came from was cheaper — so we just kind of shrugged it off and went to leave. The worst part: He then called out to us and suggested that we visit walmart! Seriously? We didn’t say we were looking for cheap(not knocking walmart, they have their place). We also never mentioned what price or what exactly we were looking for. I was taken aback, how rude can you get, usually you try to keep the customer and try to make a sale, but you get on your high horse and make asumptions? We were polite and leaving and you insult us? I would never ever consider this place for anything ever.

Grand opening signs always catch my attention although I can usually avoid stopping. On this day, though, I had a few moments to spare in-between appointments and saw a «grand opening» sign for a furniture store in a part of town that seems to have a plethora of furniture stores. Expecting to find the same ho-hum furniture, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to Modern Inspirations. I was greeted by Antonio, who mentioned the specials(specials? The store just opened!) and then left me to browse through the various arrangements. Modern Inspirations is well-named, at least from the«modern» aspect. There was a lot of black, white, chrome, glass, and mirrors, each with a singular appeal of their own, and perhaps together as well if this is your taste. There were computer tables, bedroom suites, dining and sitting room furniture, and the usual accessories like lamps and vases. As intriguing as many of the things were, it all seemed cold for my taste but definitely something I could see in the right setting. By the time I made the circle around the store, Antonio was back to point out some special features of a table, and then seemed willing to cut a deal on some of the items that I liked in particular. He was willing to mix and match, and give a small discount over and above what was already displayed. I was impressed, although not really looking to buy anything. Antonio, excellent salesman that he is, almost had me convinced to buy. All in all, I was glad I stopped by. It gave me an opportunity to see a type of contemporary furniture I generally bypass and begin to appreciate it for what it is, even if it isn’t my preferred style.
