Dr. Mohan has been my gastroenterologist for 15 years, and I always thought pretty highly of her, but recently I had an episode of pancreatitis and she took excellent care of me. This is one of the most painful things I have ever experienced, but she made sure I was as comfortable as possible, and guided my course of treatment so that the issue was resolved as quickly as possible. I intend to remain her patient forever.

My first office consultation was mediocre, I went in due to a lower abdominal issue and constipation. Dr. Mohan came right in and to the computer just to ask me a series of questions. I described to her what I was going through and feeling, and she was not insightful or attentive. I finally got on the table and she poked around and told me I needed to get EGD and colonoscopy done. On the day of the procedure, she was late due to traffic. After the procedure, she was nowhere to be found and the RN was there to answer whatever questions I had after being sedated. Dr. Mohan did«talk» to my boyfriend after the procedure but she was not very helpful. He had to press her for answers, and all she can say was, «It’s stressed related and she needs to eat a high-fiber diet.» I do not recommend this doctor, and I can’t wait for my bill to come in so I can pay for her«excellent and attentive» service!

WARNING: if you are squeamish, turn back now! I try to be unflinchingly honest but it sometimes comes off more appallingly inappropriate. Proceed at your own risk, my friend, proceed at your own risk. Okay, so there are some universal truths about going to a gastroenterologist. It’s a bit like going to a gynecologist or urologist: you know that inevitably, at some point, you’re going to get a piece of medical equipment shoved into one of your orifices in a really undignified and unpleasant manner. Your colleagues and acquaintances will express concern for your well-being, but they won’t ask too many questions because ultimately, they really don’t want to know the details of why you are seeing such a specialist. And without fail, there is always a higher copay and usually some kind of deductible just to find out that your family physician was right anyway. Nevertheless, you endure it all to ensure your health and peace of mind. Dr. Mohan and her staff made everything a little easier to endure. Obtaining a first appointment was an easy process that required minimal waiting. I was a bit uncomfortable once I arrived at said appointment due to the annoyingly small waiting area, but once I got to an exam room, all was well. Dr. Mohan was a good listener, and very informative. She explained what she would be doing to diagnose me, and while she didn’t dumb anything down, she didn’t lose me in obscure medical jargon either. Here’s a fun fact, gleaned from Dr. Mohan: when undergoing a lower GI scope, your chances of having your bowels perforated by the scope are 1 in 1000. Do you realize that makes your chances of having your insides punctured by a small camera greater than your chances of winning the lottery? Anyway, the procedure went well, and thanks to a cocktail of drugs, I remember none of it. I just know I was pleasantly buzzed and nodded off pretty frequently for the rest of the day. Dr. Mohan spoke to my husband after the procedure since I was out, and I was little annoyed because I thought I would get to speak to her myself before the procedure, but that did not happen. I was also slightly peeved that my follow-up was scheduled 2 weeks out rather than 1 week. Thanks to her office staff, namely Sophia, I survived. Sophia is one of those rare people who never make you feel like you’re asking a stupid question and is always genuinely concerned about how you are doing. She will go out of her way to help and will return calls even after 5pm; in short, she’s just a really sweet person. Overall, I am happy with my treatment and would recommend Dr. Mohan to anyone needing a gastroenterologist. I knocked off one star because I found the doctor slightly inaccessible; other than that, all went well. Also, I now possess 6 beautiful technicolor photos of my intestines and colon. Wheeeee!
