Montalbano Tire & Auto Service

The service here isn’t bad and the actual mechanics are nice honest hard working guys but I’m somewhat suspicious of the owner and/​or the system of operation. I went in for what I suspected were faulty bushings. I asked for a diagnostic and expected to be consulted before the issue was repaired. After waiting around for almost an hour I asked the owner for an update and he told me the mechanic was looking up bushings to order. When the mechanic came around he informed me that the bushings were fine and that he went ahead and solved the problem by tightening the cradle bolts. I was then charged a 100 dollars for the labor alone of tightening the bolts. This seemed excessive to me but because they don’t have set price I had no stance to argue from. I doubt I’ll ever go back.

I had a tire patched for $ 25. Since I live close by, one of the employees drove me back to my apartment and when the work was finished picked me up again. That’s a differentiating service. Tony Montalbano, the owner, inherited the business from his father and mother who established Montalbano in the 1940’s (if I remember correctly). Tony is a nice guy with a calm demeanor. He also explained what the mechanics did to fix the tire. I would recommend this shop to anyone.

This is a ten star dream. I went to Firestone in the Heights had the worst service ever. Here there is honesty to the core. The owner’s family had been there 75 years. One lady on staff had been there more than 40 years. You couldn’t find this kind of purity in many places. There is a trust there that is found rarely. Trust me having to search for tires for days this was an island of belief.

Great service and a great price! Got my oil changed and tires rotated for under $ 30! Love the convenience that the company offers! Highly recommend.

Mr. Montalbano has been in business for years, and his longevity is directly attributable to the excellent customer service provided by him and his crew. They are always cordial and conscientious in their work. I have the utmost confidence when I take my family’s vehicles to him.

Extremely disappointed based on the good reviews I read. I brought my car in for three new tires, and oil change, and to get the air conditioner looked at. I brought it in on A Saturday morning at 9 AM, I finally received a call at 2:30 that they were unable to figure out what was wrong with my AC and I would need to pick it up and bring it back later. I paid for the tires and the oil change as well as an AC inspection fee. A week later I dropped my car off on a Monday afternoon at approximately 1 PM, The owner assured me he would call me when they figured out what was wrong with it. I did not receive a call so I called them at 6 o’clock as they close at 5:30 he informed me they still did not know and would need to wait until tomorrow. I agreed and left my car there overnight, I went until 3 PM the next day before I finally called him, he said he would check with his mechanic and call me back within 30 minutes. After an hour and a half I showed back up to find that my car was still not blowing cold air. They used the excuse that they could not find a diagram for the electrical wiring, this was a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta one of the most common cars on the road!!! needless to say they had my car for over 36 hours and did absolutely nothing to the air-​conditioner!!! Not to mention I initiated the phone calls to check status on the progress. I really wanted to like this place because it was close to my house and he seemed like a genuinely nice guy, but zero initiative on follow up, and now I’m in search of another repair shop to fix the problem!

Wow! Great service.
My car was leaking oil so I wanted to get it to a shop as soon as possible. I called Montalbano at noon on a Saturday certain that they wouldn’t be able to see me. But the guy said to come on down. Great start. I got there and they saw me right away, no wait. Turns out the place that changed my oil last didn’t fully tighten the drain plug. They tightened it up, topped off my oil, and sent me on my way with no charge.
Both the mechanic and the front desk guy (probably the owner) were very nice and professional.
There’s a waiting room with coffee and water. Nothing fancy but a good place to wait.
I couldn’t have hoped for better service. I was very pleased and will definitely return if I have any other car issues.

Had a tire repaired that had a very slow leak. I was told it would take 30 minutes. It took over an hour and cost $ 25. There are a lot of other places that charge a lot less.
I left the shop and went to the grocery store. I came out of the store to find that my newly repaired tire was completely flat. I called and spoke to the owner. He said his repairman would meet me in 20 minutes. 40 minutes later, he called back to inform that the repairman had gone on another call. He showed up 30 minutes later. He checked the tire and determined the valve stem was bad. (Didn’t catch it while the tire was initially being repaired?) He replaced it and filled the tire.
This tire repair that should have only taken 30 minutes cost me most of an afternoon from work.

Needed to get a tire patched on a Saturday morning, and Unilocal led me here. Loved it. Old school auto repair in the best possible sense of that phrase. Doughnuts, coffee, tv in the waiting room. Efficient, excellent service at a good price. I’ll be back soon!

Worth the drive from Katy for this «old style» shop. Mechanics walk out and pop your hood and talk to. Not just someone behind a desk writing down your issues. Great prices. Highly recommend.

The staff were cheery, helpful and informative and worked with my unique situation and vehicle. I had a heavily loaded trailer with a cracked tire on it, and they were able to do all of the work outside for me.

I agree with all of the great reviews! We have used Montalbano for all of our company and personal vehicles for as long as I can remember. Anyone who has had a bad experience needs to look at their own actions because Tony has always been kind and courteous to all of us. I’ve been extremely happy with both his pricing and his service. Tire prices have always been lower and IF his service prices are higher, it’s worth it for how quickly they take care of me and that I KNOW he isn’t doing anything that doesn’t need to be done. Not only that… it’s always done right the FIRST time!

If you are looking for trustworthy, affordable car repair, you really can’t do better.
I’ve been going here for years. They always answer my questions, they provide written estimates and stick to them, they check with me before proceeding, and they tend to try the low-​intervention, inexpensive fix first. All the years I was on a really limited budget with old, unreliable cars, they really worked with me on prioritizing immediate, vital repairs and being honest about which repairs could wait — and for how long.
Montalbano is the kind of place you mostly don’t see anymore — a family shop where the owner answers his own phone and runs the register. Many of their mechanics seem to have worked there pretty much their whole working lives. And they know cars inside and out.
As a side note, they’ve always been happy to give me a ride home from the shop if I need one, and they have an arrangement with Enterprise, so it’s possible to rent a car from the mechanic’s shop — handy!

Needed (3) tires asap. Called Sam’s waited on hold never got anyone to answer. Called Tony he gave me a GREAT price, done & done. I had been told over the weekend I needed another major repair $ 1,200. + Tony checked it out and said the other guys must have been mistaken. I’m telling everyone I know about MONTALBANO TIRE. I wIll never go anywhere else. HAPPY

Seems like this place is stuck in the 70’s when you walk inside, but thats what makes it great! This is a family owned business that has been in the neigborhood since the early 1900’s. Tony is a great guy, has been doing this forever, and is very honest and upfront about the work he does.
They do great work and will have you in and out in no time. I would choose this place over any firestone, goodyear etc and not just because it is a family owned business (which I am usually biased towards), but becasue of the prices and service.

Highly recommended. You can always count on Tony Montalbano to be upfront and honest with you. They repair cars, as well as sell & install tires.

Love Montalbano so much i’ve driven with my flat tire just so they can fix it. Great service and usually Tony is helping you himself. Nice neighborhood joint that prides itself on excellent customer service

Great and friendly service (if you need to rent, Enterprise & Montalbano will take care of you).
Haven’t been enough to give 5 stars but so far SO GOOD! I will be back :)
