The O’Kane Gallery is a small gallery inside the One Main building on the UHD campus. Probably 3 ½ stars, but, I’m giving the benefit of no half star availability. There are interesting exhibits of students and accomplished artists alike. It’s a very small gallery. So, don’t go there expecting MOMA! But it’s worth checking it out if you are nearby and there is an exhibit on display. And the price is great = free!

Évaluation du lieu : 5 Houston, TX
Having visited the O’Kane Gallery on several occasions, I can safely say it is NOT your typical university art gallery. While the gallery does feature University of Houston — Downtown student work once every year, this is only a tiny part of this unique space’s offerings. Curator Mark Cervenka goes to great lengths to feature quality, national and international artwork with every exhibition. From magic realist Audrey Buller, to Alabama-born Bill Traylor, to their current exhibition of early drawings from the Art Students League in New York, the O’Kane Gallery is among the best in the city. The charming and intimate(but not too small) space is located inside the UHD campus at the northern-most end of downtown. As with everything downtown, parking can be a bit of an issue during the week, but is usually no problem on Saturdays. Check their website for upcoming exhibitions and openings.
