Omni Salsa Dance Studio

Nice space, good location, nice moves, nice crowd; now all you need to work on Omni instructors is on your customer service and people skills. It’s great that you have a system to place people where you feel they would benefit the most. However, if you have already a customer on the floor taking a class you owe that person respect no matter what. Phrases like «I’ll sit you down if…» followed by «strike one!» yelled for everybody to hear… besides being plain rude, they make not only your target but everybody very uncomfortable. Please do your research; there exist much better ways of creating a fun/​challenging learning environment. Other dance studios in Houston have figured that out. Besides, as I read, I’m not the only one that has had this experience at Omni; don’t let that become a common occurrence. Maybe you all should take lessons from your staff at the door. In all fairness they do their best to treat your customers like paying customers.

Great place full of great people!!! They let you try the classes for free the first week of every month. I was hooked. I love it! great job Mike!

I am writing review not about the whole school, but for our instructor — Nataly Majia. We wanted to have bachata as our wedding dance and had only two months to get ready. Nataly was super patient with us, extremely helpful and understanding. In 2 months we managed to have 3 mins dance with a lot of different moves. I have some dancing background, but my husband doesn’t. After the dance my mother-​in-​law was so surprised, cause she never so him dancing! Nataly, you are the best We both wish you all the best:)

I haven’t taken any classes at this studio so this review is based completely on their Friday night salsa social. The event was absolutely fantastic! The Spicy Salsa Social is held on the last Friday of every month. For only $ 10 you can spend the night enjoying a wide variety of Latin music and dancing with all levels of salsa dancers. If you just like the occasional fun night out but have never taken a salsa class, you will still be able to enjoy yourself. There is a lesson to go over the basic steps and teach you some ways to spice up your dancing before the social begins. Dancers of all levels come out to enjoy the music, dancing and socializing. Additionally, you can BYOB to enjoy or share or bottles of water can be purchased on the premises. What I enjoyed most was that the more experience dancers didn’t dismiss the novices. Rather, they would ask them to dance and patiently coach them through the dances, giving them the opportunity to leave the social a better dancer than they were when they arrived.

The people that attend and work here are great. Nataly, and Anyble receive 5 stars for their patience and harsh management they endure. The classes can be fun, and easy to socialize. However the owner and main instructor harasses, bullies, and kicks customers out. Females, in particular, run the risk of being publically humiliated or verbally attacked. For the guys he will just embarrass you then kick you out. I recently experienced an unprofessional, unethical harassment directly with Mike, the owner, which has inspired this truthful review. If you want to learn from a highly engaging and professional studio, I recommend the following: Amaya Studios, Salsa Eddy, Salrica Studios, and Culture Beat. These studios all work together and have a great respect for one another, they actually care about your dancing and you will have a better chance at being part of the Houston Salsero Scene ! Dale !

Professional, patient, kind, and funny… If you are struggling to master salsa, Omni Salsa is the solution for your two left feet. If you are an analytical thinker, second guessing your steps, and if after taking countless of private lessons with other instructors, and you are still getting no where… Fire your instructor! Because YOU are not the problem!
Mike and his staff will help you master those left and right turns, the cross body lead left turns and right turns in no time. You will be amazed by Mike and his teaching techniques. If it wasn’t for Mike and his capacity to explain and correct the mistakes I was making, I would have never mastered these moves, and I would have given up Salsa dancing for good. Everyone one can learn to dance, but your instructor is the key to your failure or your success. Thank you Mike for turning my two left feet back to their proper function.

I was giving an 1 star rating, but I have to give Nataly another star ever since I started taking her lessons and she is one of the best teachers I have ever had!
Yes, 5-​Star for Nataly! I am taking private lesson with her. 4 hours/​week. She knows what I need, she explains so well on such a little thing, and she is a great teacher!
A week ago I went to the studio. A girl Nataly gave me Jonathan Rodrudgez contact number for private lessons. Today, I sort out my work schedule for the next few months, so I called Jonathan and told him that I would like to sign up for the Early Bird 48 hours lessons for a price of $ 1,680. (please see the first picture I posted or you can go check out their website for the packages they offer)
On the phone, Jonathan mentioned nothing about the price. What he said to me was that he will check his schedule and then get back with me. 30 minutes later, I received his text (please see the second picture)
Where is the price of $ 2,400 coming from? I am sure it is not on the website!

Used a Unilocal deal here for beginner group lessons with my husband. I could only make Wednesday classes but the instructors were recommending newcomers attend Wed & Thursday classes. Due to work conflicts I could only go once a week but learned a lot in the month. We’ve had to take a break now but will definitely be coming back. Probably for private lessons so we can progress quicker. Love the instructors. With all things, you must practice at home so don’t expect miracles if you’re not willing to practice daily.

You know those people having fun making all those twisty turn-​y moves at salsa clubs. I’m not one of them. I tried learning salsa by taking those free dance lessons at salsa clubs and I tried learning it online through Youtube but I ended up making me and any girl unfortunate to dance with me look really bad. That’s why I’m taking lessons here as apparently you have to put in some hard work to have fun.
No, this place isn’t at the Omni hotel. It’s located near the corner of Richmond and Chimney Rock next to Popeye’s chicken and an middle eastern restaurant. The parking lot, which seem to be under some major construction at the time of this review, gets full as the time for salsa classes approaches. The class room consists of a good sized dance studio. Everyone checks in at the desk by the door to and writes their name on labels so everyone knows your name, but I could call myself «Cornelius» and no one could care less.
Class then starts up with everyone going though salsa drills: basic steps, side steps, right turn, left turn, suzy qs, 3+3, slide, coombia (?) and others that I don’t remember. When I first went through this I was wondering if I was in the right class but If you don’t know them all it’s okay since they are all steps you will learn eventually as you go through the classes. Everyone then guys and girls will pair up. If there are more guys/​girl during class, they would have the extras spaced between couples so that everyone gets to dance with a partner as rotation of partners goes pretty quick. I did a full month for Salsa I in which I learned to do the basic steps, right turn, left turn, and the cross body lead. We also learned how to lead and the hand positions while turning. But what’s important is that they help you learn by developing muscle memory so to speak and by dancing with several different people. The class progression is as follows: 1 month at level I and 2 months at level II to advance to level III. I still have a ways to go since my move set is still limited, I have to verbalize 1, 2, 3…5, 6, 7, move around with large steps, etc… but hopefully I’ll be able to pull off impressive combos with out someone calling out the moves.

I’ve only just started taking salsa lessons a week ago here but I have been dancing salsa for five years now off and on. I was able to jump straight into their salsa 3 course but I am also taking salsa 2 to hone in on the fundamentals and salsa 1 to begin learning the part of the follow. The instructors at omni have something for everyone regardless of skill levels and they are not only amazing dancers themselves, they are also amazing instructors with easy to understand lessons and plenty of support. Omni is top notch and I highly recommend.

I went for the FREE Salsa lessons and I can’t tell you how much fun I had. I enjoyed the repeat of the steps and the ability to change partners because believe it or not you dance differently with each person. Great place, nice and clean, professional studio. I will be BACK.
My idea of a good photo would be one in which someone is actually dancing like a group photo of one of the classes YEAH.

When i first got to Houston, i scouted around to most of the local dance studios. i’m one that does their homework first. i look not only for pricing, but for the best atmosphere and educational prowess. like most studios, i believe there is room for improvement to move Omni from good to greatness. however, i am a perfectionist. i stand by my word when i tell you that you will not be disappointed by these gentlemen’s teaching abilities. if you practice and do what they they teach you, you can rest-​assured that your two left feet will quickly become rightfully coordinated and gain you the confidence and ability to get out there on the dance floor to strut your stuff!!! When I first moved to the U.S. from Puerto Rico was around the time that Ricky Martin blew up with «The Cup of Life». So of course every person I met asked me if I could dance like Ricky Martin. Of course I would lie my ass off and said yes but my secret shame is I must be the only Puerto Rican that can’t dance.
That said I finally decided to do something about it and take some salsa lessons. I ended up choosing Omni Salsa based on proximity to my house and the fact that their first group lesson is free with no strings attached. As Alexandra described in her review, Jonathan does a great job of breaking down the steps to the very basics. The pace might be a bit slow at first but for somebody with two left feet like me it works. Ended up paying $ 40 for four lessons once a week. You can bump it up to 3 lessons per week for $ 70 so if you have the time commitment that’s a good deal. During our time taking lessons it always seemed like there were more guys than girls, but Omni Salsa always had a few regulars come in to make sure there were enough ladies to do partner work. The vibe is super friendly and they really try and give some individual attention even in a group setting. They also send out text messages with invites to go out and practice your new moves throughout the clubs in the area.
If you want to learn how to salsa I highly recommend this place. I might actually brave a few moves next time I’m back in the island.

Really welcoming dance studio. The Rodriguez brothers provide a dynamic range of instruction that can’t be matched.
I have enjoyed my 2yrs of learning from them and with the addition of new instructors, the range of salsa techniques has just multiplied.

Johnathan is my favorite dance instructor at Omni Salsa. His friendly disposition has made him a personable instructor; the bits of humor he adds to common mistakes makes the class enjoyable.

The music fades into the background; my concentration narrows in as I listen to the instructor count off, demonstrate steps, and try to follow his example. The foot steps following the salsa patterns form their own beat, as the class moves in unison.
Since, I am taking classes with my group, Social Spanish; we received 50% off the normal student price. If you can get a group of friends to take the class with you; you can save a bundle off the normal price. If not, you can get a week long trial for free, if you swing by their location and pick up a business card. ;o) It’s a nice way to get started into the genre that strikes your fancy.
Friday nights, I spend 60 minutes of my evening in the company of Spanish speakers, as we learn salsa 101. The new faces have become familiar faces. We greet one another and chat about our day, and before I know it, it is time to start class.
So far I am pretty pleased with what I’ve learned, and I am looking forward to future steps I’ll learn. There are so many genres of latin music, I’d like to learn to dance to; some days I wish I could learn several simultaneously, but I’d rather stick to one at a time,.
