This is not a Sport Clips or SuperCuts. This is a true barber shop. I have a simple haircut(#3 on the sides faded, scissor cut on top) so I usually don’t care where I get my haircut, but Plaza is outstanding. The guy by the window is the best, old timer, looks like he’s been cutting hair for a long time. Any time I go I always get a great cut and he finishes it off with a straight razor shave with warm shaving cream that will leave your neck super smooth. My men’s cut was $ 22 which compares well to the big chain shops that don’t do straight razor anything.

Cuts are $ 20. They also have a full time shoe shine guy inside. Most of the Barbers are decent but one or two don’t seem to know what they are doing… Try to get the guy in the window for best cut. 9 times out of 10 they can take walk-ups immediately. If you are in the tunnels and need somewhere to go this is the best I have found. An ok place to go but if you can drive there are better places around at that price.

I’m in Houston on business, and needed a simple cut(1 on the sides, fade into the top, trip off the top) before a conference. I’m now embarrassed. Long clump of hair in the back, crappy fade, and my head looks more like a bowling ball than it usually does. Angry and disappointed. Hate to name names, but Carmen was the perp.

3.4 Stars I’m in Houston today for a day long meeting, followed by an evening flight home. Yesterday began early with a flight from OAK to Hobby, followed by a short set of afternoon meetings, a beer and a nosh at the Flying Saucer, and then back to the hotel to catch up on work and home emails. I wish I had more social time(especially with some of my Houston Unilocal friends), but such is the life of a single father and strategic business trip planning. In between, I stopped at the Plaza Barber Shop for a trim. Despite being a bit thin on top, my sides grow in to a point that the frizz starts to bother me. And with the Houston humidity, it was time. I have stopped here occasionally over the years for mostly the convenience. I usually take whatever barber is available and have always been satisfied with the result. And inevitably, I usually run into someone that I know.
