Ok, wait a minute, I actually purchased a Groupon deal that didn’t completely and utterly suck?! …wow, I’m either pretty damn lucky or pretty freaken awesome. Maybe it’s the awesomeness. Anyway, the Groupon deal was $ 40 for $ 175 towards a pair of prescription glasses. I’m heading to graduate school this fall so I was in the market for some«a-dork-ably» trendy cats-eye frames. Problem-o solved. Located on Bellaire & Renwick(same plaza as the 99 Cents store), this Optical Illusionz is situated in a predominantly Hispanic area of town, so the employees speak plenty of Spanish here. The interior of this optical is actually really nice and clean, almost brand new even. Fancy wooden shelves, each containing different brands of glasses, align the walls; and the assessment rooms are located in the back hall. As soon as I walked in, an employee was immediately at my side to help me pick out some frames, which has its good and bad points — bad, because I honestly felt a little rushed and couldn’t browse at my own pace; good, because I had her full attention and her most honest opinions. Optical Illusionz offers a decent selection of known-brand frames(i.e. Gucci, Ray Band, Coach, Guess, Dolce and Gabbana, Juicy Couture, Armani Exchange, Kenneth Cole, etc.), and after spending literally forever(+1 star for JUST hanging in there with me, Optical Illusionz, great job!) trying on a few frames, I finally decided on my winner. Next came the part I usually dread: upgrades. But the employees were sweet and totally understanding(new textbooks outweigh transition lens, after all), and they didn’t turn up their noses when I declined every upgrade they threw at me. On top of that, they cheerfully accepted my Groupon and were happy to discuss installment payment plans with me, to which I gratefully agreed to do. Two days later, I got a call saying that my new specs were ready to be picked up – along w/a matching case, cleaning cloth, my prescription, and receipt. All in all, I’m extremely happy with the service and product I received at Optical Illusionz… and I don’t think you need a Groupon to see just how awesome they are. Not that my Groupon saved me much money anyway, since, being me, I just HAD to choose one of the priciest frames in the store. ugh fail. Ah well, at least I look cute!

Love there eyewear collection. I bought two pairs of glasses one Gucci sunglasses and Versace regular clear glasses. I had both prescribed. I’m constantly receiving compliments on my glasses. I love the fact that the sunglasses were an exact match on the lens, you wouldn’t even they are prescribed. Friendliest staff also, will definitely recommend my friends.

Located in a busy strip mall/shopping center. Great staff; very friendly, professional, but most importantly very caring. They even referred me to an eye specialist and called their offices, and scheduled me an appointment! I didn’t have to do anything but show up to the appointment! And no, they don’t work together! This place offers a great selection of well known brand frames, Chanel, Gucci, DKNY, Ray Band, etc. The staff works with you to find your perfect fit and aren’t pushy about what glasses or upgrades you should get on them. In case that you can’t pay for your glasses or contacts in full, they’ll still order them for you and allow you to make payments, any amount you want, for a month and a half until you’re done paying the whole amount!
