I have seen some great shows here over the years and like that Ovations opens it doors to the local talent and local music scene… There have been some great jazz events thrown together at the last minute because the right people are in town so it all just kind of happens at Ovations… With that said I always feel like this place needs to be shaken up a little bit and the space can be much better utilized… It needs to close for about 2 weeks and allow a team of gay designers and a cleaning crew to get this place in order and more functional… The space has so much more potential and can be better utilized… the front lobby area has the potential to be a small walk up lobby bar and is not being used at all… I would hope that as Main Street Theater expands they will offer some pre-show/post-show cocktails… I guess only time will tell.

Hidden gem in Rice Village! Came here for a variety show and truly enjoyed it! Staff are friendly and drinks are reasonably priced. I will definitely come back again!

My first time at this place and I enjoyed myself. I came to see Anthony David perform and I was a bit worried where I would sit because I paid at the door and wasn’t familiar with the seating of this place. They didn’t mind that you sat on the steps which to me was the best seat unless you got a seat at the front of course. The steps are comfy especially for a show that lasts 70 – 95 minutes. It’s very intimate seating and very cozy. The bar is upstairs but the waitress did a great job of handling all drink orders even the ones on the stairs. Seating is also available in the balcony area. If you are attending a late show then parking won’t be an issue for you. Most areas have free parking after 5.

Ovations and Cezanne are the only places that can compare to the great music that is played on Frenchman St. in New Orleans here in Houston. It is not just jazz, but there are certainly many great jazz concerts here. I have seen Thomas Helton organize a recreation of the Miles Davis Nonent. Playing The Birth of the Cool from beginning to end. That has been one of my favorite concerts I have been to in Houston. I have also seen some benefit concerts and auctions that are always great fun. The vibe here is great. There are two levels. Tables scatterd on the first floor, and a balcony on the second with more tables and a bar. Often when I come, the place is packed, and people make a seat on the stairs. Which is actually pretty comfortable. Great seats throughout, and awesome acoustics. A hidden gem in the Rice Village area, and one of my favorite places to see a show.

Great, cozy, little theater! We just went to see Death: the Musical and had a fabulous time! The show was fun and the theater has comfy chairs and tables, with first come seating. They have a nice bar upstairs with table service as well. You can’t bring in any drinks, but you can bring food to enjoy as long as it’s not in noisy wrapping. It was a bit hard to find, but well worth it. Freeparking on the street and great shops in the surrounding area(Rice Village) Enjoy the show!

Classy, calm, and quiet, Ovations is open only for performances or by reservations(for recording sessions and private parties as well). Local musicians take note — it’s not difficult to get a show here, though you’ll have to do all your own publicity. I’ve known many singer/songwriters who played here with regularity… more hardcore projects possibly need not apply. The place is pretty much a blank slate, but it’s definitely«got good bones».
