This papa’s location actually burned down on Saturday night. The night I checked into. The drive thru and food is hit and miss. Sometimes you get stellar customer service and food. Other times its ehh.

I came from Las Vegas looking for some great Texas BBQ. After several recommendations we decided on Pappa’s for lunch. I ordered a brisket sandwich, yams, and macaroni and cheese. My food was good but not great. I love BBQ and I guess my expectations were too high. I didn’t like the BBQ sauce at all, I like sweet and tangy sauces. The one here is very tomatoey. I would’ve been happier with some famous Dave’s BBQ sauce on my sandwich. My daughters didn’t like it either so they’re meal was just ok. I also ordered a cheesecake and I have to say it was pretty good. Better than expected. I have a horrible sweet tooth so I ordered it to go and had it later with coffee. It was moist and creamy. That I would eat again! My husband had the banana pudding and he didn’t care for it too much. He said it was definitely not homemade and it was just alright! Service was decent, restaurant was clean and spacious.

Did not like it. Had the sampler for $ 14.75. Brisket, pulled pork, sausage, ham, rib and two sides. All were Luke warm. The meat that was decent was the pork rib and the sausage. Will not come again. And this was prime time Friday night at 7:30pm. Left a lot on the plate and I’m generally a stickler for not wasting food. Not good.

A bustling dining room at lunch as expected. My second visit to a Pappas location and again discovered every item to be of excellent quality. I delightedly engorged myself on their mixed platter which contains four types of meats and two sides. I chose the ranch beans and cole slaw and found both to be freshly prepared and delicious. Ample portions by the way. Make a point to stop at Pappas when you pass by one. A place well worth the visit.

I’ve been going to this place since it was Luther’s in the 90’s and despite all the changes it’s always been the best BBQ in Houston. I’ve been to other locations across the city and none have the staff, care, and quality as this one. I bring every visitor from across the world to this location and they always brag about the«Texas Barbecue Experience» they have here. It’s a must visit and to will return.

I’m in from out of town for meetings and our group decided we wanted some Texas BBQ. The hotel recommended Pappa’s and it was certainly decent. At Pappa’s you order at a counter and then take your food to a table. They have a window where you can see through to the kitchen. While there, the cooks were cutting up some ribs. That sealed it for me. I ordered the Rib Combo with 3 baby back, 2 pork and 1 beef rib. I also ordered a side baked potato and some sweet tea. The portion sizes were ample with the baked potato weighing in on the huge side. The ribs were good. All had the same flavor BBQ sauce that wasn’t too tangy but it was nicely caramelized on the meat. The meat almost came right off the bone but not quite. There also was a fixings bar to load up the potato and anything else you wanted. The bacon bits at the bar looked more like the processed type Bac O’s rather than real bacon. I probably should also say that there are free refills on the sweet tea(Of course) but the large glass they served it in really negated the need for a second trip to the counter. I asked around the table and the group agreed that it was pretty good. Most have had other BBQ restaurants that ranked higher for them but Pappa’s certainly satisfied the BBQ craving.

After today’s BBQ talk thread, I had a carnivore craving for a brisket sammy. We had other unyelped(for me) places were in mind, but headed toward the airport to drop off some family, we were running short on time. So Pappas it was. I’m surprised that I didn’t cave and order their barbecue baked potato, but I tell ya, I couldn’t stop thinking about fatty brisket. I ordered the sammy on their jalapeño cheese bread(Texas toast like) and a side of potato salad. In the end, I probably should have stuck with my regular ‘tater, but don’t think that I didn’t finish my sandwich. I «beefed» it up, so to speak, with an extra helping of their sauce(nothing special), onions, pickles and a slice of cheese.
