It is ok food. The location is not bad as some other locations in Houston. It more like a fast food place but the only cons is that the food is ready and when you order they just put in a plate for you. I like my food to be cooked fresh or i would just go to a buffet.

Was decent barbeque wood smoked, but guess I like a sweeter barbeque sauce. the barbeque beans were made with the same sauce didn’t really care for it, the potatoes salad was good though, if they maybe had another sauce it would’ve been good all around.

I’m writing this review before I’ve gotten my food order. I walked in and there was a decent line but not too bad. I noticed a «to go orders» station, but it was not manned. So, I got in the regular line. When it was my turn, I was told to go to the«to go orders» line because the line I was in was for«dine in» only. I told the guy behind the counter that there’s nobody at that register. He really didn’t seem to care other than the fact that I couldn’t order my food to go with him. So, I walked down to the to go order line because all of a sudden someone showed up. He took my order after I repeated it a few times. I was never given a receipt nor an order number. When my food was ready, I was told, «hey». I don’t expect white glove service nor the best food at this place as I was just hungry. I do expect to be treated respectfully and promptly. I am sure that the Pappas family would not be happy with their service at this location tonight.

So wanted to like this place. I ordered the beef and pork ribs, beef slices, baked beans, and rice. Beef rib was a bit tough, the pork was too fatty, the beef was great! The baked beans has very heavy tomato taste and the rice had been sitting out too long; not fresh. Overall, it was quick and not bad priced. Not the best Texas BBQ. Head to Austin for Franklin’s or Salt Lick. If you are ever in Durham, NC, go to The Original Q Schack. I will say that Pappas’ sauces were very tasty and I was able to sit and eat very quickly. The televisions were a plus.

Honestly not *that* bad of a place, the food is OK for the price. However, If it was located elsewhere I would probably give it an even lower review. Being that it is one of the only moderately decent BBQ restaurant in the area it is ok. The food came out fairly quickly, and the service was fine, it’s just that their is some fierce companion in Texas and Houston when it comes to good BBQ. This place just doesn’t stand up too well when being compared to other BBQ restaurants, even semi-commercial places like Rudy’s. I may visit this place again distant future, but that would be only to see if the quality of the food has changed, not because anything here, other than it being downtown, attracts me back.

So this is Texas BBQ~ I’m so stuffed… I got the 2 pork rib + beef slices combo with yams and mac & cheese AND a cantaloupe melon drink. Holy moly, that was a lot of food. and I almost ate all of it! Ribs were tasty, the beef slices were kinda meh, but that might be because they got cold by the time I got to them. The yams were candied deliciously; reminded me of Thanksgiving. The mac & cheese were ok too. I especially liked the self-serve bar in which I loaded up on those marinaded carrots. They taste much better out here than in LA! Also, the BBQ sauces were pretty nice. Now that I think about it, I probably should’ve mixed them together!

Unilocal reviews recommended this place?!? Two ribs & pulled pork dinner with baked beans & Mac n cheese was what I ordered. Ribs were tough, no smoke flavor so doused them with some sauce. It made them worst! Sauce tasted like spoiled vinegar & had a burnt taste. Pulled pork tender & flavorful & good portion. Mac n cheese average and the baked beans seemed too dense & not cooked thoroughly. Being from KC this place would not be able to compete or be in business.

Pulled pork sandwich was on point. Cole slaw was satisfying enough and a nice contrast to the sandwich in texture, temperature, and flavor. Cheesecake weighed about a pound(only slightly exaggerating) and was a nice way to finish up the meal. I’ve had better cheesecake but it did the trick. The location is convenient in that it’s easily accessible from St. Joseph Hospital, is spacious inside, and has a parking lot plus a drive-thru. Overall, a better experience than my last few at other Pappas BBQ locations in other parts of Houston.

Two years I have been writing about how terrible the service is in the drive thru. For two years not one attempt to provide even the slightest speed of service when using it. Like a broken record, here I sit again unable to back out to save myself. So I’m stuck spending 25 minutes in a drive thru at a restaurant who obviously does not consider what this type of service says about them.

Sliced turkey was juicy and tender as usual. The fries were disappointing — not cooked thoroughly and not properly seasoned. The barbecue sauce is one of my least favorites. What I recommend? probably not. Would I return? no, not to this location.

If you are in Texas and represent one of the largest food chains in the city of Houston, your BBQ restaurant should be on point. Walking from the parking lot, I got the aroma of nice BBQ smoke. Unfortunately, this was the best part of my dining experience this day. I walked in on a Sunday morning to meet some friends, We ordered the brisket platter and the smoked wings. The sign said they smoked wings only on the weekends. The server at the counter did not know even how many wings came in an order. She also didn’t know how much they would cost. After finding this out and delaying the long line behind me, I was able to order 6 wings to try. The BBQ smoked wings were delicious and crispy. However, it did not seem like these were smoked at all. They appeared to have some char(more grilled) and then flash fried for texture. I was okay with this because they were quite good, but this is not what was advertised. The spicy smoked wings were soggy, no smoke flavor, and really didn’t even have any heat to them. The brisket was not tender whatsover. The cook was inconsistent from piece to piece. The seasoning on the brisket was also not interesting. It was fine, but I’ve had so much better brisket at other BBQ joints and at people’s home. Even in people’s home who have smoked brisket for the first time. The sides ordered were baked beans(okay, but nothing special) and the rice(this wasn’t good at all). This left us $ 30 in the hole, with just okay bbq that should have costed $ 20. I was not upset about trying the new place, and I still got some food that was okay. However, I will not return with so many other choices to eat in Houston. I’m amazed that this place is capable of having such a high rating.

This is the craziest set up… slow smoked brisket that you can get through a drive thru?!? Only in Texas. You can eat inside as well and order cafeteria-style, and everything is super-sized. Enormous sides, huge drinks, really reasonable prices. The brisket is smokey and tender and just… delicious. BBQ sauce is kept in a warmer, and is sweeter and thinner than I’m used to but still really good. Came for a late lunch — the place was still busy but didn’t have to wait. Next time I’m going to try a baked potato topped with pulled pork… no room today!

Tried both the House Special platter and the Pork Ribs on two separate visits. Both were very good. The sides were both unnecessary and underwhelming. Don’t order a salad as one of your sides. You end up with a gigantic bowl of sad lettuce covered in shredded cheese and absolutely drenched in dressing.

Our food was good. We were blown away by the portions, as we always are with Pappas Bros. restaurants. We had our fill, and had 3lbs of leftovers for another day. Believe it or not, I have spent close to $ 30 at McDonalds for a family of 4 to eat with nothing to take home. The sausage is a barometer for me in any BBQ restaurant. The links at Pappas were not the right flavor for Texas. My guess is they are using andouille sausage from Pappadeaux, and calling it sausage… but I don’t know for sure. Don’t get me wrong, the links are good, but not correct flavor. Ribs were perfect, brisket was perfect, French fries were perfect, tea was perfect, yams were perfect, selection was perfect, ambiance was perfect, bathroom was perfect. Please look at the pictures of the enormous ribs for sale. Use a GPS to get to the parking lot and a GPS to leave cause Houston is crazy for a San Antonian like me.

I love the food here but the service makes me want to up and leave. The servers have either ignored me or avoided me each time I’ve been here. I like the food at Pappa’s. Maybe they need a new hiring director or something… Idk but I won’t take my money here anymore because I hate feeling disrespected. I tend to never misinterpret people, nor do I leave negative reviews but this place deserves it. Hopefully they can fix this. It’s happened on more than one occasion. Clearly I’m the idiot for spending my money here but I know better now. I might change my rating if I ever have an incentive to ever visit this place again.

I haven’t been here in quite some time. They have remodeled the whole place and it looks great. They added a patio area and moved the entrance, and the food line. Overall, I think I like the change. It’s fancier(no pinkies needed) but the atmosphere is casual and the food was just as I remembered. They have also added TVs throughout the dining area which is convenient for game days.

Good food, long lines and a Texas tradition. The brisket, sausage and pulled pork are my favorite meats here. Their salads are super good, big and veggies are fresh. I really do not like the bbq sauce, never have, but I just seen where are offering different flavors, gotta try those out. The desserts are big and yummy too.
