Manny at party pantry is incredible. He knows his wines. He knows champagne. He has an extensive collection and he is NICE… always willing and able to help you. His family is superb… I recommend this place highly. So grateful I found it…

Forget Spec’s. Forget Richard’s. I have found the best place to get wine in Houston. Party Pantry has been a family owned business for 26 years. I’m surprised that this place has been kept such a secret… probably because it’s not within the«city.» It’s part of a convenience strip and from the outside seems a bit shabby, but appearances can be very deceiving. Step one foot inside and you’ve walked into a paradise filled with cases and cases of wine. Best things about this place: (1) Manny, the owner and sommelier, also the nicest and most helpful guy you’ll ever meet. It was my first time here today, but I met several of his regular customers and they raved about how Manny is always spot on with his wine selection and remembers what you like/dislike. (2) Best-in-class selection at discounted prices. Wines that you’d typically get at Spec’s for $ 20 – 30 are at least $ 5 – 10 less here. As you move upwards along the price spectrum, the discounts are comparably even more. I overheard some customers saying that some $ 60 bottle would have cost $ 80+ at Spec’s. Also, Manny carries such a variety of boutique wines that you’d never find at a chain store. What I was most impressed with was the three rooms in the back filled with a wide selection of vintage wines(also at reasonable prices). 1996 and onward, you name it. (3) Free wine tastings are offered some Saturdays from 3 – 5:30 pm. Manny hand picks a selection within the $ 15 – 20 budget. I tried two whites(sauv blanc, chardonnay) and six reds(chianti, a variety of blends, a few cabs)…and got seconds(and thirds) on the ones I loved. Cheese and crackers too! Be sure to sign up for their e-mail list so you know when the tastings will be. I walked out of the store with my Asian glow and three bottles of wine(two 2005 Simi AV Cabs and one Ruffino Riserva Chianti) for $ 53. The bf walked out with a case of 12 wines for ~$ 240. I will definitely be coming back for more. No credit cards. Cash/check only.
