First of all I was driving by and noticed the sign outside that says patel brothers. I assumed it was a restaurant. Anyways, I went on about my business and I decided to come back and get my indian food on. How shocked was I when I walked in only to find its a grocery store. I was in the store already so there’s no turning back. The first thing I saw was chocolate. Yum. I then decided to take a tour in the store. I started in the frozen section but I couldn’t finish the whole store due to hunger. Anyways I managed to get to the hair aisle and I grabbed a few vatika oils for my hair. I’ll be back since they have a lot of selection and you can never go wrong with basmati rice. I asked about indian restaurants and she said they had some around the corner. Will definitely come back

Quality of vegetables are not so fresh. It feels they don’t renew the rotten vegetable lot. Other than that its good store to buy Indian groceries

Patel Brothers is that one Indo-Pak grocery/general store that no city with even the minutest South Asian community can survive without. Granted there are plenty of independently owned stores that cater to a diverse crowd while providing more variety to a specific sub-group, Patel Brothers tend to be a safe-haven to all, and it’s no longer limited by geography!
Patel Brothers is the only Indo-Pak grocery store i don’t mind picking up actual groceries from. You already know how hard it is to find actually fresh(NOT frozen) Okra, or bitter gourd! If i need to mention they carry all kinds of spices and herbs, clearly you’ve have never been to desi shop and must visit one asap! Oh and i absolutely LOVE the freezer section! I can always find that one thing that i grew up eating or my granny used to make that i haven’t had in centuries! Desserts are abundant, so are Halal meats and hotdogs and turkey bacon. All forms of international sodas and different variations of yogurt and creams and nuts and rice and condiments and candy and biscuits(cookies to us).

I came here to buy a «Masala Dubba» spice box for BF’s sister who is about to travel to India for the second time. I chose this store because of the Unilocal rating and wasn’t disappointed. They are crammed to the gills with spices, tea, utensils, produce, snacks and much more odds and ends! 3 different people tried to help me at different points during my visit and they were all very friendly.(With great senses of humor, I feel it’s important to add. Everybody was cracking jokes which made for a humorous and pleasant shopping trip.) The spices are soooo much more reasonably priced than your average American grocery store chain so we bought her seven kinds including some more exotic ones for curries. I definitely will be making the trek back over here to purchase my own dubba soon.

As a white girl with little experience cooking Indian food I decided to tackle a pistachio masala lamb chop recipe. When Phoenicia didn’t have chaat masala I hopped on Unilocal for an Indian store nearby and Patel Brothers came up. Once in the store I didn’t even pretend to know where to find the spices and someone immediately asked me if I needed help and showed me right to what I needed. Then, once I was paying the girl at the counter asked what I was cooking and I showed her the recipe and she was so friendly, gave me tips, and wished me luck on my first foray into Indian food. And I have to say I’m so glad I went all the way out there for the chaat masala because it completely made the dish and was absolutely delicious! Since I don’t know much about Indian food I can’t really speak to their selection but they had spices that Phoenicia doesn’t have and everyone I interacted with was super friendly so I can’t wait to go back once I’m more experienced.

Thumbs down to this store for honesty. I went their to pick up some fresh gegetables, he charged me higher price for item, than what it was marked. I pointed out to him of listed price, he said no now the price are change. At least he should honor the listed price for that time, and go change listed price, and then charge more. Typical milking out customer mentality.

The staff is courteous and helpful. I was able to find all the ingredients I needed for this recipe I wanted to try. The store is well-organized overall. They had a good selection of spices, but the freezer section was nothing exciting and a bit over-priced.

i like patel brothers, but probably because it’s more of a «chain.» i can easily find all my needs to pakistani cooking, minus the meat(i guess that makes it indian cooking then!). they had a remodel completed and it makes it easier to maneuver around the store. awesome selection of achar(they always have swad mango pickle available!!!), shan masalas, and other generic seasonings. the freezer section isn’t the best, but still not the worst. you can also find some other cool things that you’ve been wanting to try for pretty cheap! this will stay my go-to indopak grocery store! :)

This place is my go to for all my Indian staples. You can find most everything needed for a «desi» kitchen here, although stay away from the veggies. They are usually not very fresh and overpriced.

Patel Bros is the Indian Costco so this means lentils and rice at fair prices being sold to you by guys with extremely thick mustaches who don’t appreciate constant Mario Bros jokes.

Such a great Indian grocery store! They had all the ingredients I couldn’t find anywhere else in Houston! Also, the staff is super friendly and helpful. I felt lost for a while and unable to find a few items; Truthiya was so observant and helpful. She even gave me a piece of mithai(Indian sweet) that she made at home. I’m definitely returning. So, why 4 stars and not 5? I’m spoiled and wished for a one-stop shop, and it wasn’t. Oh well, that’s what non-Indian grocery stores are for :)

I love the smell, reminds me of India! People are friendly, large selection of grocery. Bought Gulab Jaman and Masala Chai, yipee! I like the place. By the way, I am not Indian.

I must agree! its the only grocery store I found with half decent selection of Indian foods in entire west-southwest Houston area. they have a nice selection of frozen, prepared, and dry goods. I am docking one star for not carrying a larger selection of produce, however you can always grab that at a local Fiesta or Food town, for cheaper prices.
